"Freya is the Goddess of Love she would do no such thing and as for her husband he was never heard of again after they married." A voice shouted above her tale, bringing her back to reality. She turned to where the voice had come from.

"That is what they wanted to you know. The gods are petty and proud. They fight just as any other family."

“That is a load of bull!” a male voice was heard as the crowd was starting to stir up.

She laughed. "So you think all you hear and read is the truth. History hides the truth, especially when it comes to gods, they do not want you to see their flaws."

“I don’t have to listen to these lies!” some of the people said as they stood up and was ready to leave.
“Then how about we prove it?” a voice at the very back said. The entire crowd went silent and looked back at the source.

She smiled as she recognized the voice. She watched the crowd part making room for the owner of the voice to make his way to the fire and her. Such a handsome man, he was. Tall, broad of shoulder, his pale blonde hair hung loose about his shoulders.

The man smiled at the old woman. “Hey mom” he said as he pulled her in to an embrace.

"My son; what a wonderful surprise." She returned his embrace. She turned back to the crowd.

"My son is correct we can prove what I say, if you are willing to learn and believe your own eyes and ears." She watched the crowd whisper to each other.

“You can’t be her son” a man in the crowd said.

"What do you mean he cannot be my son? I tell you he is. I carried and birthed the boy." She looked up at him. "He takes after his father’s side more than mine."

“You are too old to be his parent. There is no way a human can give birth at your late age”

"Who says I am human?” She glared at the crowd. "Define human."

The crowd was silent for a moment. “You are a human being aren’t you?” another one asked.

She turned and faced the questioner and just smiled. Her grin was large, showing a full mouth of white teeth. "What defines a human being? We walk upright, talk, drive fancy cars or perhaps because we are rude and impatient? “

“You can teach a monkey to do most of that. But what you said sounded almost like you said that you are not part of the human species”

Her eyes glittered and walked back to the boy who was still right where she had left him. "What do you think boy? Am I an old woman or perhaps something else? "

“I don’t know old lady” he had tried to get out of the chair several times, but given up. “All I know is that you have some special powers or something”

She patted his head. "Or something qualifies. Perhaps we should ask the night or even the gods themselves to answer that question, heh? “She made her way around the fire until she stopped next to her son again.”You all perceive me as an old woman but I am not as old as you may think." The fire leapt high again, lighting the area brightly. She stood straighter, the wrinkles around her eyes smoothed, her hair turned from grey to blond. She transformed from an aged woman back to the woman of youth. The crowd shifted away frighten at the sight. "Do not fear. I am human and more."

The young old boy with the puppy walked up to her. “Wow… Your petty!” he said.

She ruffled his hair. "Thank you. But I bet you want to hear more of the story? "

“Yes please” he sat down on the ground by her feet.

"My son likes this story too. He gets grumpy if I don’t tell it all." She undid her braids so her hair hung free. "Now let's see where were we. Oh yes the gods and their internal bickering."

“That is because you say it so well” he added.
