Pure Life

The snow crunched under their feet as they walked along. Akira kept his hands in his pocket where the pocket knife was at. ‘Can I do it? Can I…’ He shook his head and trudged on. They we’re soon at the top of the hill looking at the forest behind them.

Zev pointed. “This way.” They followed him and they slowly made their way through the woods. It was quiet between the three, and the small girl jumped from foot print to foot print. She would fall and start laughing and there was a point where she had Cyan playing tag with her. The brunette looked around keeping an eye out for anything that wasn’t supposed to be there.

It was quiet, too quiet.

Marianela looked at the blushing Rune. She had a knowing smirk on her face; well she had seen the mark on his neck. “So?”

“Nothing happened.”

“Then what is that?” Her finger pushed against the mark and he jumped up.

“It’s nothing!”

Rune had rushed over to see Marianela and they sat there looking at each other. Well he was helping her pick something out for her date, but then she saw the mark on his neck. “Sure let me go call Keir.”

“No!” He jumped on top of her cell phone. “I’ll tell just don’t call!”

“Why? You think he would actually tell me something.”

“I don’t know!”

“So?”

“He cornered me while talking to him and I told him. This led to that but we didn’t go far because Nuri knocked on the door and interrupted us I was mad, embarrassed and scared of what his family might think of me and him together.”

“I thought you were going to wait for…”

“I am but I wanted to continue but I don’t want to seem too eager.”

She patted him on the head and smiled, “Then do what you always do. I should know I had to listen to all of them bitch about not getting any. They were some real scum.”

“You’re so nice it’s like have my own sister.”

“Sometimes I wonder who the little sister is.”

“I’m not childish and I’m a male.” Marianela smiled and sighed. “What?”

“You’re all like family to me.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

The small male’s purple eyes watered and he hugged her. “You don’t tell anyone I cry.”

“It won’t leave this room.”

“Thanks.”

Zev heard the snap and his head whipped around, “Get down!” All three dropped to the ground, Akira covered his head and Cyan used his body to shield Kaya. A large log came swinging at Zev and he braced himself as he grabbed it. His body slid back a few feet and he growled.

“Zev!” Akira was starting to get to his feet.

“On the ground now!”

The brunette laid back down and looked at Zev; he heard the distinctive click of a gun being cocked. “Zev gun.” He said it so calmly but his gray eyes watched as Zev let go of the log just as the gun went off. His body jerked and fell to the ground, “Zev!!”

He scrambled to his feet and ran over to him. When he knelt next to him he placed his hand over Zev’s, Akira stopped and he growled. He saw the flinch and his grip tightened on his hand.

Both males stopped breathing when they heard it. “It’s that weird smell again.”

Akira reacted, “Cyan.”

He nodded and looked at the girl, “I’m sorry.” His press a point on her neck and she slumped over.

“Get out of here. Zev hold your breath.” An image flashed in his head, he leaned over, “Killing you will be a last resort.” Now he had to find where that smell was coming from. The brunette placed his hand on Zev’s forehead. “Don’t give in.”

Zev laid there, he can’t hold it for long. Turning his head he looked over to see Akira running. He knew Akira wasn’t an idiot, he had seen that he’d gotten a whiff of it. He rolled over and buried his face in the snow. ‘It should react slower since I didn’t get a full whiff.’ Cyan had two minutes to get down wind and find somewhere to hide and Akira had to figure out what to do.

If only he had known, if only. He growled, shrugged his jacket off and his shoes followed. Good thing he brought a change of clothes, but they were back at the cabin. What would happen if Akira saw him like that? He tried not to get upset, ‘I don’t deserve this.’

He could feel his mind going numb, ‘Please, don’t let me hurt him!’


Akira slid to a stop, he couldn’t feel Zev’s mind anymore. “I’ll kill them.” He ran and slid to a stop under a tree. Looking up he saw a jar. As quick as he could he climbed up the tree and grabbed the jar. The male sniffed it and almost gagged.

“It works on Weres.” He whipped around when he heard the voice. The man stood there, he had a smirk on his face. “I just got done killing one, but I lost the small child.”

“Bastard!”

“What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to get rid of this first.” He looked at the liquid in side. “If I dilute it, it shouldn’t work.”

“It won’t.” Whipping his gun out he shot the jar and it shattered. “Now try it.” Akira was splashed by the liquid and he felt his head go light. The smell was strong.

“Shit.”

The man looked over his shoulder and smirked. “Have fun.”

“Bastard, get back here!” He took off after him. Just then there was a howl and Akira ran faster. The brunette tackled the man to the ground and growled. “How do you fix it?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about?”

Akira punched him, “Tell me damn it!”

“No.”

He pulled his arm back and froze, the anger was strong and he turned around. A large black wolf stood there the blonde streak on his muzzle gave him away. “Zev.” Looking down he found the man with a smirk on his face. The brunette punched him and knocked him out, “If I have to kill him, I’ll come back and kill you.”

Climbing to his feet he turned and looked at him. ‘Let’s see who’s faster.’ He turned and ran as Zev lunged forward.


The door to the cabin slammed open and Daisuke looked up. He saw Cyan panting and holding the small girl. “Akira… trouble…” He sat the girl down and dropped to the ground right after.

Flare crouched next to him; she turned to find Daisuke gone. “Damn it…”


Akira jumped over a fallen tree and ran faster. He could hear him running behind him. Leaving the forest he found himself on the cliff and ran to the cliff edge. Spinning around he couldn’t see Zev. Looking over his shoulder he judged the jump. The lake was frozen, but how thick was the ice? The large wolf came crashing out of the woods and Akira sighed. “Sorry.”

Daisuke landed just as the two tumbled over the edge. “Akira!” He was at the edge, when he looked over he didn’t see anything but a hole in the ice. Then something broke up through the ice.

As soon as his body hit the water he regained his senses. Zev saw Akira slowly sinking in the water, he swam after him. Grabbing the back of his shirt with his teeth he quickly swam to the surface, only to find ice blocking his escape. He punch at the ice till it broke and he was above the water. Climbing up onto the ice he pulled Akira up and carried him over to the bank where he laid him down.

He shook his wet body water going everywhere and then he pulled Akira’s body close to his. The wolf whined and nudged Akira’s head with his nose. ‘Wake up. Please, Akira, wake up!’

Akira’s whole body shivered and he gasped for breath. He let go of Akira and the male slumped onto the ice coughing up water. The brunette heard his whine, “I’m fine Zev.”

Zev stood up and was about to help him up when a foot collided with his head. His body hit the ground and he stumbled as he stood. “You damn wolf!” He felt a fist hit him in the face and he fell onto the ground. “You almost killed him!”

The wolf caught a glimpse of a pissed of Daisuke getting ready to punch him again, “Wait!” Akira grabbed onto his arm and looked at him. “I took him over with me.”

Daisuke looked at Akira as he walked over to Zev, “You what?

“Are you okay?” He looked away and then pushed himself up, “Zev.” His hand touched his shoulder.

A growl came from Zev and Akira grabbed a hold of the wolf’s muzzle, forcing him to look at him.

“It was a risk I was willing to take!”

Sky blue met storm gray and they stared at each other. Daisuke shook his head, “You stupid idiot!”

Akira rolled his eyes and he looked at Daisuke, “Don’t tell me you wouldn’t do something stupid to help her.”

His dad opened him mouth, stopped and gave an aggravated sigh, “Damn it!”

They both looked at the dripping wet Akira and he looked at them both, “What?”

“Aren’t you cold?”

“What is with you people!?” He walked off.

“If you want to make up for what you did, get his wet ass back before he gets sick.” Daisuke was looking straight at Zev.

Zev quickly ran after, he picked Akira up. “Zev!”


They made it back and Akira was sitting next to the fireplace wrapped up in a blanket. His wet clothes were hung in the bathroom drying and Zev was avoiding him. ‘Damn wolf.’ He stared at the fire and shivered. His mind kept going back to the emotions he had felt when he came to in Zev’s arms. He knew them well, worry, fear, regret, sorrow, anger, and loneliness. The brunette shivered and then he hung his head. Good thing the water washed it all off of him.

Akira slowly stood up and made his way to the front door. He had pulled on a pair of pants before he sat down in front of the fire. With the blanket wrapped tight around him he opened the door and looked outside. Zev was sitting in the corner of the porch furthest from the front door. “Zev.” It was quiet as he walked over to him. Kneeling down he looked at the male. He didn’t move when Akira sat next to him.

But he didn’t have to, Akira knew how he was feeling and he just sat there next to him. A few minutes passed and Zev spoke up, “You should go inside before you get sick.”

“I’m fine.”

The wolf turned and looked at him. “Why aren’t you cold?”

“I’m use to it.” Looking at Zev he looked away. “There was a time when I hated it. Now it’s just a part of me.”

Sky blue eyes didn’t leave Akira as he pulled the blanket around himself tighter. “Akira.”

“Yeah.”

His hand reached out and brushed across Akira’s cheek. “Why did you pull something like that?”

“I couldn’t do it.” Akira slipped his hand over Zev’s. “I just can’t do it to you.” He wasn’t going to make the first move, if Zev liked him he would have to make the first move.

Zev reached behind Akira and pulled him closer. “I don’t want you to get sick. I’m probably warmer than that fire.” He let a smile slip; maybe he could make the first move this time.

“Zev…” He was cut off by Zev placing a hand over his mouth. The male made a shushing motion and jerked his head back. “Who?” He saw an image of Daisuke popped in his head, but that wouldn’t stop him. The brunette smirked and he reached over to Zev.

The front door opened and Daisuke growled, “Get your ass back in this house! Are you trying to get sick?”

His sharp ears caught the curse from Akira and Zev couldn’t help but chuckle, “Shut up dog!”

“Wolf damn it!”

Akira looked at him, he let his hand brush over his head and Zev turned to look at him. The door closed and he was alone again. “Akira…”

Keir yawned as he walked over to the door that led to his bathroom. It was almost eleven in the afternoon and he finally got some sleep. “Damn dreams.” It didn’t help that they were about a certain short male. He turned on the shower and pulled his pants off. As soon as he climbed in his phone rang, looking out the open door he saw it sitting on the desk. “Damn it.” Turning the water off, he grabbed a towel and wrapped it around his waist.

Picking up the phone he looked at the id and blinked. He sighed, “Yes.”

“Has dad found out I’m gone?”

“Yes.”

“And?”

“He’s not going to chase after you.”

He heard the sigh from Zev. “Good.”

“Zev what’s wrong?”

“Well other than me and Akira going head first into a frozen lake, I’m doing great.”

Keir’s brows furrowed and he asked, “Why?”

“I got a whiff of that one stuff that make’s Weres go insane with anger.”

“Shit Zev!”

“I can’t look him in the face without feeling like shit, so don’t add on to it.”

He knew his twin was in pain but, “Is he hurt?”

“No, just got really wet, but I learned never to piss his dad off. He kicked and then punched me, I should of gotten the third one but Akira stopped him.”

“I see, and where is Akira?”

“Out sparing with his dad, I can see them through the window of Akira’s room. He’s getting better, out ran me when I was… damn what if it was before this I would of…”

“Zev!”

“Sorry.”

“Look spend the next two months with him, but come home when he does.”

“I will.”

“I’ve got to go now, I was about to take a shower.”

“Heh… someone slept late I wonder why?”

Keir growled, “None of your damn business!” He hung up the phone and turned Rune was standing in the doorway smiling. He had on a small black shirt and dark green cargos that hung on his hips; his jacket was in his hand.

“Hi.”

“Give me ten minutes.”

“Okay.”

The dark haired male pulled the door closed and let the towel fall to the ground. He heard the music on his radio through the bathroom door. Turning the water on, he stepped in under the spray.


Rune sat in Keir’s computer chair spin around in circles. He was only in there for five when he started to get bored. The chair stopped spinning and he tipped his head back, he could remember everything yesterday. Yesterday was the day he confessed, he grinned and started spinning in the chair. It stopped spinning and he looked up to see Keir looking down at him with one brow raised. He smiled and Keir leaned over to kiss him. Pulling away he turned the chair around and looked at him.

The small male tipped his head to the side, Keir was in a pair of pants. “You just got up?”

“Yeah.”

“Why?”

“I couldn’t sleep.”

“You want to hang here then?”

He rested his head on his shoulder, ‘I’m not going to last.’

“What is it?”

“Nothing let’s go out.”

“Okay.”

After Keir had gotten dressed, black jean pants, dark blue shirt, and a black jacket, Rune dragged him out of the house. They were sitting in the car when he pointed out, “Why do you wear that collar and cross?”

He pointed at his cross, “Grandmother’s and a gift from Zev. It was a joke at first and now I just ware it.” The car pulled out of the drive way and then drove into town.

Rune jumped out and they walked across the parking lot, he slipped on a patch of ice and landed on his butt, but they got into the movies in one piece. The movie was supposed to be scary but now that paranormals existed as one it was hard to scare some people. The small male spent most of the time cringing at the sight of blood and Keir just tried to get into the movie. Somewhere halfway through it Rune caught onto how bored Keir was and then he pushed the armrest up. Keir looked at him and Rune kissed him.

‘Good thing its dark and we’re in the back corner.’ The two both pulled apart when there was a loud scream. Looking at each other they both then went back to watching the movie which ended five minutes later. “Cheesy.” Was the only thing Rune muttered as he walked out.

“It wasn’t the bad.”

“I know I picked the movie but please tell me you didn’t like that movie.” He smiled as he got into the car; Rune climbed in and looked at him. “Okay then what did you like about it?”

Keir leaned over and kissed him, “It was good for something.” He looked at his phone. “I’d go out on a limb to say, we spent a good part of that movie busy making out.”

“Good thing it was dark and we were in the back corner.”

“Yeah.”

For the next hour Rune had convinced Keir to take him to the park because he had to play in the snow. So while Rune was building snow men Keir was standing off to the side watching him try to get the head on the thing. “Come on Keir help me!”

He sighed and walked over to pick the head up and set it on top of the snow man. “There.”

“Almost done.” He ran off and grabbed some sticks. “Arms.” The small male ran off again and came back with some rocks. “Eyes, nose, and mouth. Done.” Keir tipped his head to the side.

“It’s lopsided.”

“Hush, I know that!”

“I mean all you have to do is push…”

“Don’t even think about it!”

“Didn’t even cross my mind.”

“Sure…” Rune’s stomach growled and Keir smiled.

“Hungry?”

“Maybe.”

They made it over to the car the snow man was facing the car. “It’s like he’s watching us leave.”

“Keir, not cool.” He had a hard time not grinning when Rune got on to him.

They ended up at his house when a woman appeared on the door step. She looked at Keir and then asked, “Is Zev’s father in?”

“I don’t know, we just got back. Why?”

A small girl looked around her and she blinked and then waved. Keir looked at Rune to see him waving. “She’s a werecat.”

“Really?” Rune walked over and held his hand out. “I’m Rune!”

“Kaya.”

“I’m a friend of Zev’s!”

“Do you know Akira too?”

“Yep.” She tugged on the woman’s shirt, “Flare, I want to stay here.”

Flare nodded and looked at Keir. “She can stay.”

“Yay!” Both Rune and Kaya cheered.

The door opened and Dawn looked out, “Oh Keir Rune who is this?”

“I’m Kaya.”

“She is so cute!” The woman hugged her and pulled her inside. Rune and Keir followed and Flare left. The door closed and all was good. Right?
