Beauty Lies In Unknown Places
Chapter Fifteen: Beauty Lies in Unknown Places…
(Hideki came again that day to Kaito’s house, he’d been doing so for a whole week and Kaito still didn’t appear, so he grabbed Kaito’s phone book and dialled Ryuuichi’s number…)
“Hello?”
“Kurosaki-san??”
“Yeah, who’s this??”
“Um, it’s me, Iwamoto Hideki, surely you remember me??”
“Ah yes, Iwamoto-san, Kaito’s partner, how do you do??”
“Very well thank you…”
“Is everything ok with Kaito??”
“Actually, that’s what I wanted to talk about with you Kurosaki-san…Kaito’s been missing for about a week by now…”
“What?? Missing??? What happened??”
“I don’t know…I came about a week ago to his house to tell him something rather important and he wasn’t at home, I waited until past midnight and decided to sleep over, just in case he came back which he didn’t do…after three days I came back again and found everything as I’d left it that day, and the same after another four…I thought he could be in some kind of trip or something, so I called his cell phone and it doesn’t connect at all…I was wondering if you knew of any possible place he could’ve gone to??”
“No…not at all…it doesn’t sound like kidnap at all…I’ll try to track him down, do lock and leave his house as it is please Iwamoto-san…”
“Yeah ok…thanks…”
“You’re welcome…”
(He hang up and grabbed his things, along with the keys and car-keys of Kaito, he locked the car and house as he’d promised, but he’ll keep the keys, after that, he left…)
(When Hideki arrived to the “MidoriYama”, saw that there was only Hikari behind the bar, he approached her and asked if he could see Gin, she passed him and he walked down the corridor to Gin’s office, when he entered, he saw Gin going through some books of…vampirism??...Hikari’d gone back to the café…)
“Ah, Iwamoto-san…what could bring you here??”
“Ah…well…why are you reading THAT??”
“Ah these books…a hobby, but, doesn’t matter, what can I help you with??”
“I wanted to know…Eiji said that Makoto wouldn’t cause any more trouble with any of us, isn’t it so??”
“Yeah…but I don’t know much about any of that…if you’d like to speak to him, he’s in the house…I’m sure he wouldn’t mind at all…”
“Yeah, thanks…how do I…??”
“Oh yeah…it’s the door right in front of this one, you can search for him, like it’s daylight, I suppose he’ll be asleep, if it’s so, it’ll take a while for him to wake up…”
“Ok, thanks….”
(Hideki went inside the house and saw that the entire first story was alone, so he supposed that Eiji’ll be on the second story, like he didn’t know the house, the checked all the rooms until he found Eiji, as Gin had said, he was sleeping, Hideki thought that maybe he could wait until the sunset, it was a long wait, so he decided to wake him up instead…he poked him and shook him a little…)
“Eiji…Eiji…please wake up…”
(Eiji grunted in his sleep…)
“Eiji…”
(He shook him a bit more and Eiji’s eyes began to open…)
“Ah…mmm…”
“Eiji…it’s me…Hideki…”
(Eiji sat slowly on the bed…)
“Ah, hi…what are you doing here??”
“…well, um, I wanted to talk with you about Makoto…”
“What about him??”
“He said something like he wouldn’t cause any trouble to any of us anymore, didn’t he??”
“Yeah, something like that…he actually said he was going back to All Souls’, some, familiar business with mine and Gin’s clan…well actually only Gin’s…”
“Oh…so he’s not in the human world anymore??”
“No…after I spoke to him, he left this world…why are you interested??”
“Because…ah, nevermind, it’s not a big deal…”
“Really??...you don’t make it sound like that…”
“Ah well, my partner disappeared, just vanished, and I want to know, who did it…and like, Makoto had sent a note once saying he’ll sent him to All Souls’…I was curious…”
“No…nobody else related to him has come into All Souls’…”
“How do you know??”
“It’s a complicated story and a long one too…”
“Ok…I won’t ask anything else…but…hey…how does it feel?? To be awake during daytime…”
“It tingles my being….my spirit, it makes him dizzy…”
“Wow…Eiji, you’d been of great help as always, thank you very much, I’m leaving you now, sleep well…”
“Good-bye, hope you find what you’re looking for…”
(Hideki hadn’t noticed that time had gone by quite quickly, when he came out it was past 7 o’clock in the afternoon, he went back to his house…he didn’t know how he’ll find Kaito…or where he could be…he was at a complete loss here…)
Three months later…
(Hideki was getting more exasperated by the minute because he couldn’t quite think of any place where Kaito could be, and Ryuuichi’s investigation was completely stuck, Kaito was nowhere to be found by any of the both…meanwhile, Eiji came storming inside Gin’s office…)
“Nii-san!! Nii-san!! Niiiiiiii-saaaaaaaaan!!!!!!”
“What?!?!?!?....”
“The ban…Makoto…he…”
“What happened?!?! Sit down!! Calm yourself down…”
“Ok…now I’m calm…he said he couldn’t make the Council remove the ban upon us…”
“Really?? Well that was expected I suppose…”
“But that’s not all…”
“What else??”
(Up until now, Gin hadn’t looked at him for a second time; he really was taking this all too well…)
“He’s confined to house imprisonment again…for 500 years this time…”
(Now he did look at him…surprised…)
“No…way…”
“Yes…I know that murder isn’t a crime in All Souls’ but, he killed his pawn, the girl that had been with him, Bridget…”
“And what about you??”
“It seems like the Council didn’t mind me letting him go get lost…they completely ignored me…”
“Did you try to defend him??”
“No…I was just a witness I think…actually I was escorted all the time…I couldn’t go anywhere without the damn escort…”
“Well, but now you’re back…and about Makoto, it’s obvious there’s nothing we can do about it…”
“I know…”
“I’m going to visit my father…”
“Ikeda??”
“Yes…”
“You’re going all the way to Kushiro?!?!?!?!”
“Yep…”
“Oh well, say hi to him for me…”
“Yeah…actually, yesterday I spoke to Minoru…and we are going to meet there…”
“Really????? Why can’t I go????”
“Because I need someone to stay here with Hikari…”
“Why??? She’s a kageoni!! She can take care of herself better than you can!!”
“Ok you may come…”
“Great!”
(They went on the nocturnal flight from Tokyo to Kushiro at 12:30 a.m. and arrived there at 1:30 a.m., Minoru picked them up at the airport…)
“Oh my God…Eiji?!?!?!?”
“Minoru!!!!”
(Eiji ran and hugged Minoru…)
“Eiji!!! It’s been so long!!! How’ve you been??”
“I’m fine, creating havoc in Russia…what about you??”
“Not much…taking care of the castle…Gin! Come here! We’re leaving!”
“Yeah, yeah…Minoru! Why don’t you help me with the luggage!?”
“Ok…Eiji, go to the car and wait for us…”
“Alright…”
(When they arrived into the castle, actually, Eiji expected it to be just as run-down as their mother’s house, but it wasn’t, it was well preserved, they all expected that their father was still living there, because none of the three had gone there in such a long time, they opened the heavy gates of the castle and drove inside, Minoru and Gin took out the luggage, they gave the keys to Eiji and he opened the heavy doors of the castle and then entered the huge tea room/stance, they left the luggage and shoes and coats there, the spring was beginning but the weather was still cold and Hokkaido was always cold, they walked towards the first tea room, it was behind a sliding door at their left, there was all the furniture, just as it had been the last time they’d been there, and that had been a looooong time ago…)
“Dad!!!!”
“Ikeda-san!!!”
“Ikeda-san??”
“Hey, he’s just my step-father…”
“He’s right…”
“Whatever…dad!!! DAAAAAD!!!!”
“Gin, Eiji, I’ll go upstairs and look for him, why don’t you go to the gardens or the other stances, he might be there…”
“Ok…”
(Eiji went to the music-room, the hall, the ball-room, the kitchen, and he didn’t find him, Gin went to the gardens and didn’t find him either…they met at the hall again…)
“He’s not upstairs….”
“He isn’t anywhere in the castle either…”
“That’s weird…where could he have gone to?”
“I don’t know…but I have to go back to Tokyo…”
“I know, why don’t you and Eiji go back, I’ll stay here and if anything comes up about him, I’ll tell you…”
“Ok…”
“I think we should all stay over tonight…”
“Ok…”
(Minoru and Gin went to sleep, Minoru in one of the guest’s room and Gin in Ikeda’s room, Eiji was downstairs in the library…)
“Damn…I hate being a vampire sometimes…”
(He went out to the garden in the back of the castle, he saw the woods and he remembered he hadn’t gone hunting in a long time, but he liked the blood of humans only, he’d never liked the one of animals…but he didn’t see any option different from that one at the moment…just when he was about to fly to the woods, Gin stopped him…)
“Hey!! Don’t even think about it you brat!!”
“Ok, ok…but can’t you see?? It’s been such a long time…”
“Yeah I know…”
“No, you can’t possibly know brother…”
(Eiji walked towards Gin and grabbed his left arm…grazing the wrist veins with his teeth…Gin rolled his eyes and snatched his wrist back…)
“Oh no…don’t even think about it either…I can’t believe you even let your fangs show! You must be starving…”
“You see???? Come on…just a bit…of it all…yours is the blood I like the most Gin…”
“That’s not true and you know it…”
“Gin!!!! Please!!!”
“I won’t give you my blood, take Minoru’s!! Or restrain yourself!!”
“Do you know for how long have I been restraining myself?!?!?”
“I don’t…”
(By that time it might have been around 4 a.m. and the dawn wasn’t far away, Eiji’s thirst had subsided a bit, but only in the way it did during the day, for example, his fangs were still out, which meant he DO was starving…)
“Please…just this once…”
“How much will you take??”
“A litre…”
“What!?!?! That’s just like a transfusion!!”
“Yeah…you’ll feel like that…dizzy, maybe weak…please, just THIS ONCE….”
“I must be going insane…ok…let’s get inside…”
(Eiji smiled and they went back to the castle, back into Ikeda’s room, Gin sat on the bed and Eiji next to him…)
“Will it be fast or slow??”
“Depends on the place…”
“Like…”
“Yeah…if it’s the carotid artery, it’s the quickest way possible, the next one are the arteries in the inner arms and thighs, then the veins like the ones of the wrists and then the rest of the body…”
“That sounds interesting…”
“Gin??”
“Yeah…why not distribute it evenly???”
“No way…besides it’s impossible for me to know EXACTLY what amount of blood I’m taking, I can give an estimate but it’ll never be 100% accurate…”
(While he was saying all this, Gin was getting closer and closer to Eiji, like if he was going to kiss him…)
“I don’t care…”
“G-Gin, you’re acting strange…”
“Oh really?? You were the one who asked for MY blood first…”
“But…but…I…I…”
“Jajajajajajajajaajajajaajjaajajjajaaajajjajajajajajajajajajajajajaja…you fell for it!!! You fell for it!!!!!!!”
“DAMN IT GIN!!!”
(Eiji jumped on him and Gin fell on his back, his brother was sitting on top of him, he didn’t seem angry, just exasperated, obviously the dawn didn’t decrease the hunger, only increased it…so Gin pointed at his neck…)
“The carotid artery…”
“Ok…”
(At first the only thing he felt was Eiji’s breath, it wasn’t hot, it was colder than ice, maybe to numb the skin, then the tip of the fangs, he still couldn’t believe that they were so thin, but, hey, it was a human form after all, then they began pushing into his skin, it was funny, he didn’t feel exactly PAIN, it was more like tickling and like cramps, but he surely felt how they broke the skin and the muscles, it was like being under anaesthesia, you felt what they were doing and cutting but you didn’t feel pain, and then, he felt how it reached the artery because it was like if he was being pulled to unconsciousness, he began to feel dizzy some minutes later, like about 9 or 10, it wasn’t true that you feel a little arousing sensation, you feel more like if you were falling asleep…after fifteen minutes, Eiji finally stopped, Gin couldn’t move, he was just lying there, his eyes closed and he seemed like he was asleep, the wounds were already closing themselves…Eiji smiled, he wasn’t at all like those vampires that like to have blood streaming out their mouths so he was very careful when taking it, like it seemed Gin wouldn’t wake up any time soon he left him there lying on the bed, he didn’t cover him because his room was warm enough, and, like he began to feel the tickling sensation that meant that the sun was rising, it mean that the blood was becoming sluggish in his veins again, he walked to the room in which his luggage was, the curtains closed of course and then he went into the bed and fell asleep…)
(It wasn’t common for any of the three brothers to wake up early, the first one was Gin, he felt dizzy, just like Eiji said he will, he saw he’d fallen asleep and that he hadn’t even noticed when, he sat on the bed a wave of nausea hit him, he covered his mouth with his hand and closed his eyes until it subsided, he stood up more carefully this time, and yes, the dizziness was less, but still was present, he walked to the bathroom that was across the bedroom and undressed, he saw that all the necessary things were there so he took a bath…meanwhile, Minoru had woke up too and had gone to check on them, he heard the sound of the shower, so he thought that Gin was on it, and then he went to Eiji’s room and saw him sleeping…the world was at peace then…)
(After taking the bath and all, Gin went downstairs to the kitchen and found Minoru there, still in pyjamas and all, he then sat on a chair at the dining table; Minoru gave him a bottle of juice…)
“I went to Kushiro some hours ago, there wasn’t anything eatable here…and besides you seem dizzy…are you feeling ok??”
“Yeah, I’m just lacking blood, a litre or maybe even two…”
“So much????????????? Why???????”
“Yesterday…I gave blood to Eiji…”
“Oh…I see…sometimes it must be troublesome to be a vampire…I don’t think I could stand being one and having to yearn for blood from time to time…”
“It must be really exasperating…ah, by the way, Eiji and I are leaving tonight, is it ok??”
“Yes of course, don’t mind me…”
“Thanks…then, I’ll go to Kushiro, I’ll go buy the tickets, I won’t be long…”
“Ok…”
(At about 9 o’clock Eiji woke up and they boarded the plain at 11 o’clock, leaving Minoru the duty to watch over the castle and calling or sending for them if their father showed up…)
(Hideki came again that day to Kaito’s house, he’d been doing so for a whole week and Kaito still didn’t appear, so he grabbed Kaito’s phone book and dialled Ryuuichi’s number…)
