Chapter 17
Chapter 17
She smiled as she watched them all gather together to dance, the music loud and the bass making the very foundations rock. He was with the other men laughing and joking as they drank the amber liquid down like it was sweet water. It was a pitiful sight really, all of them getting as drunk as possible in light of what might happen on her command. The attic was the last of their worries the more underlying enemy was she, because she could kill them all in an instant. Everything revolved around her and she knew it, she could do what she wanted with in reason but he was something that could put an end to it all. He knew everything, about the passengers and their escorts. He knew about the rings of fire and the deaths, but he just didn’t understand it yet. Yes, he could blow the whole society apart and destroy them all with one foul sweep. Thousands of years it had taken to create such a web of creation like she was part of and with one mistake on her part he could kill them all.
Tonight however, if things went well she’d tell him, she’d help him see it and discover just how powerful he actually was. The elders would not approve of her becoming so chummy with the enemy and a powerful enemy at that. However this was her way of dealing with him she didn’t have the heart to kill him like she was instructed to do because in some ways she felt she could change him she felt connected to him. He wasn’t just another passenger he was special he had the power to bring down an entire race of people and yet he didn’t know it. Deep down inside her it was going against everything she’d been taught to do, hit him while he is weak and clueless rather than teach him how to use his resources and risk possible death afterwards. It was like assisted suicide, if he took a turn and suddenly became aware of these things like he was just playing dumb for her benefit she’d not be able to defend herself. Even some one like her and escort of the highest couldn’t fight one of them, he was just to strong the only option was to get him on her side some how. She’d have to tread carefully testing the waters just to see if he was just as clueless as she’d thought he was so that if he did turn out for the worst she and a few of her partners in crime could attempt to bring him down but that was drastic. It was too drastic she didn’t want to hurt him she’d become to attached him to dedicated a fatal error in the Escort’s society.
If all went well and she got him harnessed and tamed then she’d still be killed by her own clan for disobeying orders and taking massive risks that could have killed them all. And if she didn’t succeed he’d kill her and the rest of them anyway when he finally realized his strength and called on his brothers around the world for support of his mighty strength. It was a loose loose situation for her now and so she had to try to bring him down rather than kill him in cold blood. At least if she succeeded and was killed she’d be content in knowing that she’d saved them all from his future wrath, future generations of the hunters becoming the hunted. The tables would have turned and they would return to being slaves like they were centuries ago, burnt at the stake and slaughtered like sheep then displayed like trophies of the gods. It was too much to bear on one person’s shoulder but she had to try, if 60 odd years of escorting had made her realize one thing it was that if you don’t take risks, things become stagnate and then revert back to old ways as the waters recede. She hadn’t been put through years of hell of seeing men die at her fingertips just because of their ancestral bloodline and their knowledge of the society to become their slaves again. Times had changed and she was going to make an effort to change them further by achieving the impossible of conversing with the enemy. She smiled as she watched him dance around like a fool, just like all the other men in the room. No one could even imagine what he was or just how dangerous he was it was impossible to tell for a mere passenger. Even he was oblivious to his power and his ability he was like a baby only just discovering things about himself. She knew he had felt it and seen it had glimpses of what he was actually capable and he was getting familiar and curious about her and her ways. It was time to come clean and time to act before he discovered it himself years later and destroyed them all. At least if she taught him and made him see what he was and what he was destined to do maybe just maybe he’d see reason and come around to finding a truce between them as mortal enemies. She sighed heavily and closed her eyes tonight would prove very interesting to say the least and tonight she’d know her fate.
