Disclaimer: Technically, this is a rewrite of the movie Labyrinth. However, how much it resembles the movie remains to be seen. I do not own/am not associated with Labyrinth or anything related to it. However, all of the characters and some of the ideas in this story are mine.
Note(s): If I don’t start getting reviews on the damn thing I’m going to assume that no one likes it and it will be discontinued. Sorry.

The Goblin King always sat in his throne room among his goblins when he had a boy in his labyrinth. It was the easiest way to keep the child entertained, as most of his subjects had roughly the intelligence and attention span of the average baby who was wished away. Today, however, he was beginning to regret it. Upon returning to his castle Fabian had deposited the girl in a dry, no longer working koi pond in the middle of his throne room. It had once been part of the decorations in the room, along with the waterfall running down one wall and into a little river bed below that led to the pond but since the curse Fabian could no longer bring himself to care about what his throne room looked like when the rest of his kingdom consisted of that horrid labyrinth and creatures so stupid they could barely function properly. At the time the koi pond had seemed the best place to put the baby at the time, seeing as the walls were higher than her head and she could not possibly climb out.
Now he was wondering if perhaps he should have just locked her in one of the cells in the dungeon and left her there. It was no wonder Avery had wished the vile little thing away. Fabian would have happily wished her away had he had anywhere to wish her to. Jilly, still in her little pink pajamas, had not stopped screaming for a single moment – except to catch her breath to start again – since the moment Fabian had taken her. She stood in the koi pond – Fabian had ordered his goblins to place several pillows and blankets in the bottom, as his heart was frozen, not black – with her fists clenched on the rim and her face – what he could see of it from his throne anyway – was bright red and her mouth open in a perfect circle.
And she screamed!
Fabian watched her with a half annoyed, half amused smile. Annoyed since she was, well, annoying and amused because, since the day Quiana had cursed him, he had loved seeing the misfortune of other creatures.
But, damn it; her misfortune did not have to mean his too!
No one else was currently taking any notice of the baby. Goblins in Viking helmets, goblins who looked like fur balls with chicken feet, goblins with tails, and dozens of other mutations of the little creatures ran and crawled and stumbled around the room creating general mayhem and more than a little noise. The floor was covered with them, as were the window ledges, the steps to the throne, and any other available surface. Some ran here and there chasing chickens. Others fought over crumbs of food or gnawed on bones while the big buffet table in the dining room went untouched. Still more drank from large kegs of some intoxicating beverage that they all seemed to favor then went staggering drunkenly into walls or other goblins, or fell into the koi pond with the baby.
Fabian was bored. Sure, the drunken goblins were funny but the amusement ended quickly. Even kicking them across the room no longer entertained him. It was that awful little baby’s fault. Her shrieking had taken the fun out of everything. He imagined he knew how Avery had felt before wishing the child away.
So why did the boy want her back?
Lounging on the throne in his favorite position - both legs over the left chair arm, his head resting on the right, his left hand on his chest, and his right arm dangling down toward the floor – Fabian contemplated the baby. He had never said the labyrinth or the game they were playing was fair. It was entirely within his power to just turn the brat into a goblin now and make the boy finish the labyrinth in pursuit of a goblin baby. Of course Avery was not likely to fall in love with him if he did that.
He yawned and glanced around the room again. Nothing had changed, of course. Except for the clock on the wall. The sword shaped hands showed that it was half past three, still nine and a half hours until he could – by the rules of the game anyway – turn the baby into a goblin. Frustrated, he sat up, dropped his feet back onto the floor, and aimed a kick at a passing goblin who dared to run across the toe of his boot with its disgusting little dirty feet. Instead of hitting the wall the furry little thing hit the baby.
Startled out of her latest round of screaming the baby grasped one side of the unfortunate goblin in each hand and stretched it out as far as it would go. Her eyes widened and she smiled instead of screaming again. Seemingly happy with her new toy she wrapped one hand around its chicken like leg and swung it around in a circle. Then she giggled and began to bounce it up and down against the floor.
Fabian laughed louder than he had in years. Maybe the baby was not so bad after all. She might even provide him with another nine and a half hours of entertainment. He kicked another goblin her way.
Jilly giggled. Now she had a toy for each hand.
