Power Of Love
Chapter Sixteen: The Power of Love
The doctors looked at each other and back at Jordan. “”I’m so sorry, time of death, 3.05am.” One of them said as he put the paddles away and began unhooking Isabelle from the machine.
Jordan shook his head as he looked at his dead wife lying lifeless on the bed. “No, no nooo ISABELLEEE!!!” he cried falling to his knees helplessly.
Jordan’s sobbing echoed in the silent room. His head was resting on his wife’s stomach crying, “You can’t be dead. I know you’re not please come back to me.” He cried shaking her.
“I need you, baby please wake up and tell me you’re not dead. Damn it Isabelle, wake up....WAKE UP!”
“Jordan...” his head snapped up and looked at Isabelle’s lifeless form on the bed.
“Isabelle?” he called out his tear filled brown eyes looking around the empty room.
“Jordan...” he heard again.
“Isabelle, where are you?” he asked his voice breaking. He was greeted with that deafening silence. “Isabelle...?” he said quieter this time.
“Jordan...” he heard and felt something warm on his shoulder. “Wake up...” his eyes shot open and he gasped sitting upright. The beeping of machines filling his ears, he dazedly looked around the room until his eyes met a pair of tired blue ones peering at him.
“Isabelle?” he said his eyes wide and mouth agape.
“Hi.” She said softly.
“You’re okay, you’re not dead?” Isabelle blinked but a small smile pulled at her lips.
“Uhm, I don’t think so...” she mumbled and Jordan let out a long sigh of relief. He took her hand in his and kissed it gently.
“Thank god, I must have been dreaming.” He said gazing into her eyes. “How are you feeling?” he asked quietly.
“Like, I’ve been shot.” Jordan chuckled.
“I’ll get the doctors.” He said and quickly rushed out of the room.
A few minutes later he came back with a doctor in tow. “Isabelle, can you follow this light for me?” the doctor said shining a torch in her blue eyes. Isabelle winced but followed the light. “Good, how are you feeling any pain or numbness in the limbs?”
Isabelle shook her head. “I’m in a little pain. No numbness.” She said and the doctor smiled.
“Very good, we’ll get you some painkillers.” The doctor said writing something in her notes before looking at her again. “Try not to tire yourself out too much okay? I’ll be back in a few hours to check on you.” He said and left when Isabelle nodded.
Jordan took a seat beside Isabelle again. “I was so scared I would lose you.” He said and closed his eyes when Isabelle touched his cheek.
“You could never lose me. Whether I live or die I’ll always be with you.” She said a smile on her angelic face.
“The thought of living without you terrifies me baby.” Jordan admitted. “I need you in my life if I’m ever going to survive.”
“Hey, come on I’m fine now. Don’t talk like that. I’m not going to leave you I promise.” She said sweetly.
Jordan leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers gently. “I love you so much.” He told her lovingly.
“I love you too.” Jordan smiled but frowned a second later.
“I should call the kids and tell them you’re okay.” Isabelle nodded.
“How are they, how’s Leila?” she asked frowning.
“She’s okay; a little shook up by the whole thing. I called Chase and he said she fell asleep after taking a shower.”
Isabelle dropped her gaze. “And Rick?” she questioned her voice turning icy at the mention of his name.
“Dead, you put a hole through his head right before his men shot you.” He said his brown eyes darkening as he remembered the previous nights events.
“The last thing I remember was pulling the trigger and a second later I felt this blinding pain before I fell and then...there was you.” She said smiling.
“Yeah everything happened so fast, after they shot you they tried to shoot Leila but Rick’s son took the shot by pushing her out of the way.” He told Isabelle while running his fingers through her hair.
“You shouldn’t have come, Jordan. You risked both yours and Chase’s life.”
“Isabelle, I told you I will kill anyone that tried to harm my family. Especially you, you mean the world to me I couldn’t stand by and watch as they killed you.”
“You’re my hero, you saved me.” She said smiling.
“Yeah, now we’re even. And F.Y.I you run off and try to handle dangerous situations like that again I will shoot you myself.” He warned and Isabelle smirked.
“No you won’t, you can’t live without me.” She teased and Jordan chuckled.
“Damn right I can’t. I’d have to shoot myself right after.” He said and noticed Isabelle’s eyes fill with tears. “What’s wrong?” he asked worriedly.
“Nothing, I’m just so blessed to have your love Jordan.” Jordan kissed her hand again.
“You always had and always will have my love baby...forever.” he whispered gazing into her teary blue eyes.
The door behind them opened and their kids walked in. “Mom.” Leila gasped and hurried to her side. “Thank god you’re okay.” She said kissing her on the forehead.
Isabelle smiled pulling her daughter in for a hug. “You too baby, I’m so sorry.” She apologised but Leila shook her head.
“No you have nothing to be sorry about. I would have gladly taken your place. You never should have come; you never should have risked your life, not for me.” Leila cried.
Isabelle frowned. “Hey, I don’t want to hear you talk like that. I would have risked my life for any one of you without even thinking twice. You are all my babies no matter how old you all are.” She cried along with her daughter.
Jordan stepped back to let his sons come stand beside Isabelle. Jaiden kissed her hand tears filling his identical blue eyes. “Don’t you ever do something so stupid again.” He said and Isabelle nodded.
“I won’t, I promise.” She said and looked at Dayne who looked most tired and distraught. “Can I have a moment alone with Dayne?” She asked and they all nodded before exiting the room.
“Come here sweetie,” she said holding her hand out to him. Dayne took her offered hand and sat beside her on the bed. “Look at me.” She said and Dayne lifted his eyes and looked at her revealing the tears he was trying hard not to shed.
“Oh honey, what’s wrong?” she asked squeezing his hand. Dayne shook his head slowly.
“We thought we were going to lose you.” He said sadly. “When we got the call from Chase telling us that you were shot...I was so scared.” He admitted. “How could you think we could go on without you?”
“I’m so sorry sweetheart. The last thing I ever wanted to do was leave you all but I had to do what I did to save your sister. I would do it all over again for any one of you in a heartbeat.”
“We need you Mom; you are such a big part of all our lives, especially mine. I know I’m not really your son but, my own mother doesn’t even compare to how much you really mean to me.” He said and tears slipped past Isabelle’s blue eyes.
“Hey, you are my son and you always will be. I raised you as my own and nothing will ever change that. Not something as small as blood.” She said Dayne’s lips quivered.
“I don’t know what I would have done if I lost you.”
“You don’t have to worry about that. I’m here and I’m fine honey. The worst is over now.” She assured him.
Dayne nodded and Isabelle pulled him in for a hug. “I love you mom.” He said and Isabelle sniffled into his hair.
“I love you too sweetie.” She said and looked at the window and saw Jordan smiling at her. She smiled back before closing her eyes silently thanking god for giving her another chance to be with her family.
A few days later Isabelle was back at home where she belonged. She was still on strict doctor’s order to take it easy as she hasn’t fully recovered from the surgery yet.
“What in the seven names of hell are you doing woman?” Jordan said causing Isabelle to jump and smash a glass she was holding.
“Damn it Jordan.” She muttered rolling her eyes in annoyance. “You scared the crap out of me.”
“What are you doing up, you should be resting?” he said with a frown.
“I was getting a glass of water.” She said leaning over to clean up the shattered glass all over the floor.
“Leave that, Is you shouldn’t be walking around.” He said and in an instant swept her off her feet carrying her back to bed again.
“Jordan, I haven’t lost the use of my legs. I really wish you would all stop fussing over me. You and the kids are driving me crazy.” She said with a sigh as Jordan gently placed her back on the bed.
“Isabelle, you almost died. You have to rest; you heard what the doctor said. Your body still hasn’t fully recovered yet.” He said while tucking the sheets over her.
“Jordan I--”
“Isabelle, stop arguing with me. This is one battle you are not going to win. Your sweet little tush is not to leave this bed understood?” he said raising an eyebrow.
Isabelle pouted her lips and Jordan smiled. “You can pout those sweet lips all you want; this is for your own good.” He said and was about to walk out of the room when he quickly came back and kissed her pouting lips before walking out again.
Isabelle shook her head a smile pulling at her lips. She opted to close her eyes and sleep for a while when she heard voices down the hall.
“Leila, are you crazy?” Jaiden asked while walking after his sister.
“No, I am not crazy.” She said marching downstairs.
“Well you must be if you think I’m going to let you go and see the man that kidnapped you.”Jaiden spat angrily.
“That man saved my life, Jaiden.” Leila said irritated.
“Yeah, after he kidnapped you.” Leila rolled her eyes. Jordan came to see what all the yelling was about.
“Hey, what’s with all the yelling, your mothers trying to rest?” Jordan said looking between his two kids.
“Leila has a date with the guy that kidnapped her.” Jaiden said crossing his arms over his chest. Jordan frowned looking at his daughter.
“You have a what?” he questioned.
Leila sighed, “It’s not a date daddy the guy saved my life. The least I can do is say thank you.” She explained.
“For what, he was the reason you were there to begin with.” Jaiden said annoyed.
“Leila, your brother is right. You don’t know this guy and I don’t want you anywhere near him. Have you forgotten what his father did to your mother?” Jordan asked and Leila shook her head.
“No I haven’t, but he’s nothing like his father. If he was he would have killed me but he didn’t. The whole time I was there he protected me from the other men. He really is a nice guy, daddy.” She said her blue eyes pleading with him.
“Fine, I trust your judgement Leila. But if anything happens—“
“Nothing’s going to happen; I’m just meeting him for a coffee that’s all.” She assured him smiling. Jordan nodded and watched his daughter leave the house.
Jaiden was glaring at his father who shrugged. “You have to learn to trust her Jaiden. I’m sure she knows what she’s doing.” Jordan told his son before walking off upstairs.
“Like hell she does.” Jaiden said running his fingers through his hair irritated before leaving the house.

A week later...
“Urgh god, I feel nauseous.” Leila said with a grimace. Marc looked down at her with an amused expression on his face.
“Well, I did tell you not to eat those chilli fries before we went on the ride.” He pointed out and Leila arched her brow at him.
“Hey, I would have been fine hadn’t you dragged me up on that ride.” He said narrowing her blue eyes at him.
“Come on Leila, where’s your sense of adventure?” He said and Leila scoffed.
“It’s taking a day off.” She muttered pouting.
Marc smiled. “You look cute when you pout.” He said lightly touching her cheek.
Leila blushed and tried looking away from him. “I do not.” He chuckled.
“Hey what do you say we get out of here?” he suggested and Leila nodded.
“Yeah okay, I’ve beaten you at every game in this place anyway.” She said smiling sweetly.
“Actually, I let you win.” He said smiling.
“Right, of course you did.” She said mockingly. “It was me that kept hitting the wall instead of the target.” She said as they began walking off.
“You were just lucky.” He said defensively and Leila laughed. Marc watched her with a goofy grin plastered on his face.
“Has anyone ever told you that you laugh like a four year old?” he chuckled and Leila looked at him confused.
“I do?” she asked arching a brow.
“Yeah, I’ve never heard anything like it. It just sounds so sweet and innocent.”
“Don’t be fooled by the laugh, I’m not half as innocent as I seem.” She said jokingly.
Marc gazed into her eyes intently for a moment. “You don’t have a mean bone in your body, Leila.” He said softly.
Leila swallowed hard. “And how would you know that, you’ve only known me two weeks?” he asked holding his gaze.
Marc smiled. “I may not have known you directly, but I watched you for over a year.” He said and Leila blinked.
“You did what?”
“Orders from my father, mind you I wasn’t complaining.” He said.
“Just because you followed me doesn’t mean you know me.” She said dully.
“Maybe not from Adam, but I know enough.” He said as they began walking side by side slowly.
“Like what?” she questioned.
“Hmm let’s see. You attend Cornwall University, studying fashion to become the next big designer. You have a best friend Chase Adam’s who you have been friends with since you were six years old. You also had a best friend named Nicole Hart but you’re not on speaking terms at the moment, for what reason I don’t know. But what I do know is she’s dating Chase and you don’t like it.” Leila stopped short in her spot and gaped at him.
“How do you know all this stuff?” she asked with a soft frown.
“I have my ways, besides you don’t really hide your feelings all that well.”
“Yes I do.” She said defensively.
“You really don’t.” He argued and Leila glared at him. “For an example, any idiot can see that you’re in love with Chase.” He pointed out and Leila froze.
“W-what?” she asked her blue eyes wide. Marc just looked at her. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She said dismissively.
“You can deny it all you want, Leila. But deep down you know it’s true.” He said gazing into her eyes deeply.
“No I don’t. Chase is my friend.” She said defensively.
“Don’t lie to yourself babe you’ll feel a lot less confused if you just admit it, trust me.”
Leila kept quiet her eyes downcast. “How did you...?”
Marc smiled softly. “I can see the confusion in your eyes. You’re struggling with your feelings for him, which I assume is quite new, no?” Leila nodded numbly. “Why haven’t you told him?” he asked as they neared Marc’s car.
Leila looked at him like he had grown two heads. “I can’t, he’s my best friend, and I don’t want to risk losing him by trying to be more. Besides he’s dating Nicole.” she said spitting her ex-best friends name out like it disgusted her.
“So what, how do you know he doesn’t feel the same?” Marc questioned. Leila blinked and shook her head.
“I know Chase, if he felt something more than friendship towards me he would have said something.” She said with shrug.
“Okay, but what if he’s afraid?” Leila looked confused.
“What’s he got to be afraid of?”
“The same thing you’re afraid of, ruining your friendship and risk losing you in the process.” Leila seemed to be contemplating what Marc had just said.
“This is crazy, Chase doesn’t see me that way, for god sake we grew up together.” She said laughing nervously.
Marc smiled and started the engine. “Oh come on, best friends in love? That’s the biggest cliché in the book.”
Leila blushed but laughed. “Your right, it is.” She agreed looking out of the window watching the scenery pass her by imagining what it would be like if she and Chase were to be together. That thought made her gut twist excitedly. She smiled automatically.
“What are you smiling at?” Marc asked pulling her from her thoughts.
“Um...” she cleared her throat. “Nothing, just the thought of me and Chase together, it just seems... bizarre.” She said glancing at him.
“Whoever said love made sense?” he said with a gentle smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. Leila found herself studying him for a moment.
“Hey, seen as you know so much about me and my love life...or lack of. Maybe you can tell me some things about you?” she suggested and Marc nodded looking straight ahead.
“Sure.” He mumbled clearing his throat.
Leila licked her lips. “Okay, let’s start simple. What’s your last name?” she asked watching him.
“Quinn.” Leila nodded thinking of the next question.
“Marcus Quinn, I like it.” She said and watched as Marc smiled.
“Glad you approve, or I would have had to have it changed.” He quipped sarcastically.
Leila grinned. “God Marcus, your sarcasm kills me.” She giggled when Marcus chuckled shaking his head.
“Next question.” he said looking ahead again.
“Okay, um...” she bit her lip. “Are you seeing anyone?” she asked and watched as Marc’s head snapped to the side to look at her.
“That was a bit of a big leap, what happened to simple?” he asked and Leila shrugged,
“That is simple.” She said.
“No it’s not.”
“Yes it is.” She argued.
“It totally isn’t.” He retorted.
Leila glared at him. “Alright just to save you time, I have two younger brothers I can do this all night.” She pointed out and Marc chuckled. “Why can’t you just answer the question?”
Marc remained silent for a moment before answering. “No, I’m not seeing anyone.” He said quietly. “I haven’t had a steady girlfriend for quite a while now.”
“Why?” Leila asked curiously.
“Because relationships aren’t for me.” He said with a sigh.
“Oh god, you’re not one of those guys who have a phobia of commitment, are you?” she asked and Marc shook his head.
“No, I don’t have a problem committing. It’s just relationships aren’t made for everybody.” He said.
“How do you know relationships aren’t for you, if you haven’t even given it a shot?” Leila asked turning in her seat to look at him properly.
Marc sighed. “I have, but to be honest no girl has ever been able to keep my attention long enough for it even turn into anything remotely serious.”
“Oh.” Leila said “So what kind of girl would keep your attention?” She asked curiously.
Marc shrugged but remained silent. “I don’t know some one that’s compatible with me I suppose. By the way I have no idea where we’re going.” He added with a smirk.
Leila blinked. “Oh, well I don’t really want to go home yet, what do you want to do?” she asked.
“Um...” he paused looking thoughtful for a moment. “We could go to mine, watch a movie and order some take out, you know because we haven’t eaten in forty-five minutes.” He said and Leila chuckled.
“Sounds like a plan,” She said grinning. “So come on, back to your dream girl?”She said enthusiastically.
Marc playfully glared at her. “Are you always this nosey or am I just special?” he questioned amused.
Leila smiled. “Actually I am its all part of my charm. My dad always said it was a good thing, it shows I care about the lives of those who are most important to me.” She said and Marc looked at her sideways.
“You’ve known me two weeks and I’m important to you?” he asked in amazement.
“Sure, I mean we’re friends, right?”
Marc blinked but remained silent. “Marc?” Leila asked her previous smile gone. He looked back at her and smiled albeit sadly.
He looked back up at her a sad smile on his face. “I love that you think of me as a friend Leila. But at the same time I don’t understand how you can be so forgiving, I almost got you and your mother killed I’m not worthy of your friendship.” He mumbled dimly dropping his eyes from hers in shame.
Leila frowned and reached forward placing her hand on his gently. “You saved my life Marc, you could have allowed that bullet to hit me but you didn’t. Any person that takes a bullet for me is most definitely worthy of my friendship.” She explained her voice just as gentle as her touch.
“You’re an amazing person, you know.” Leila smiled and squeezed his hand slightly.
“Thanks, my mother taught me to see the best in people. I guess I just wear my heart on my sleeve, you know?” Marc nodded lifting his eyes he gazed into her deep blue ones intently.
“I do know. Chase doesn’t know how lucky he is to have you love him so much.” He said and watched as she blushed which only added to her mesmerising beauty.
“Oh come on, stop.” She said looking away.
Marc chuckled and brought the hand she had on his and placed a gentle kiss on the inside of her wrist. “You look sexy when you blush.” He said smiling wickedly when her blue eyes widened and she looked even more mortified.
“Marc!” she squealed smacking him on the arm before covering her flushed face. Marc chuckled and pulled her hands away from her face.
“Come on, don’t be coy. Why don’t we go and pick out a movie?” he suggested and Leila narrowed her eyes at him before nodding.
Ten minutes later the duo were in the video store looking through DVDs. “Hey, L, How about scar face?” Marc asked holding up the DVD case.
Leila looked back at him and the DVD in his hand. “Urgh, that’s such a guy’s film.” she wrinkled her nose.
Marc looked at her like she was crazy. “No it’s not, have you seen it?” he asked and Leila shook her head. “Then how do you know you won’t enjoy it?” he asked and Leila tilted her head to the side.
“Let me guess, the movie consists of drugs, sex and mafia’s right?”
“You forgot guns,” He said before pretending to hold up a gun. “Say ‘ello to my little friend.” He said in a thick Cuban accent.
“Oh my god, you sound like my two idiot brother and father.” She said picking up another DVD as Marc laughed and placed the other on the shelf. “Oooh, The Notebook.” She said excitedly.
Marc glanced at her with a frown. “What is The Notebook?” he asked looking at the case while Leila looked at him agape.
“Oh my God, are you kidding. You’ve never seen The Notebook?” she asked in disbelief. Marc shook his head slowly. “It’s like the most romantic movie ever made.”
“Ah, you mean it’s a chick flick.” He said bopping his head up and down.
“No, not at all, M, you have to watch this with me please. It’s such a beautiful movie.”
“It’s a chick flick; you won’t catch me dead watching that.” He said and Leila arched her brow.
“It is NOT a chick flick. It’s about this wealthy city girl Allie, who falls for a poor town boy Noah. It has such a beautiful story behind it I promise you will love it. It makes me cry every time.” She said grasping his arm pleadingly.
Marc grimaced. “See that’s another thing I don’t get. Why do chicks insist on watching movies that make them cry?” he asked and Leila sighed her shoulders slumped.
“Because unlike men, we have feelings and emotions and understand the true meaning of love.” Marc looked at her blankly. Leila threw her arms up in defeat. “Oh forget it; if you’re going to be such a guy about it. We’ll just watch your stupid-face movie.” She muttered placing the DVD back.
“It’s Scar Face.” He corrected and smiled when Leila glared at him.
“Whatever.” She mumbled and walked off. Marc watched her walk away and shook his head before picking up the DVD and following her to pay for the movie.
The drive to Marc’s house Leila asked him a few more questions about his past and Marc answered with short answers.
They got in and ordered Chinese food; Marc had a shower while Leila called her parents to tell them she was okay and will be home late. She tried Chase once but he never answered. The food arrived just as Marc stepped out of the shower.
“Leila, can you get that. I’ll just get my wallet.” He called out from his bedroom. Leila opened the door just as Marc came out into the living room in nothing but a towel wrapped loosely around his waist.
Leila’s eyes widened when it wasn’t the food delivery guy at the door but Chase. He stood still for a moment his eyes looking back and forth between Leila and half naked Marc standing behind her.
“Chase?”
