Can I have a little soul, please?
Can I have a little soul, please?
Really roughly paraphrased from wikipedia’s explanation of the SOUL.
The soul, according to many traditions, is unique to a particular living being. In this, the soul is thought to incorporate the inner essence of each living being. It is believed in many cultures and religions that the soul is the unification of one's sense of identity. Souls are usually considered to be immortal to exist before their incarnation in flesh.
Plato and Socrates viewed the soul as three parts:
1. the logos (reason/superego) Azrael Armor Lanseng Ping
2. the thymos (emotion/ego) Xavier Claudius Haley Liam
3. the pathos (carnal/id) Sex Marcus Vladimir Hades
Each of these has a function in a balanced and peaceful soul.
I have given the brothers only one soul and they share it. Above is how I see the brothers in their prospective roles and how other characters fall into line. (At the beginning of Cake, Armor and Claudius were reversed, now with his growth, I find Claudius to be more emotional)
Now why am I looking up information on the soul?
K asked a question: Can Endellion suck a dead soul?
In Caramel, I have a magical sword, Endellion who sucks souls. A blue katana that just showed up in one chapter and now is like...what the hell is it doing now? It is deadly and
dangerous. And even the most knowledgeable of the characters, Liam’s knows little about her other than she is the Right hand of Hashmallim and remakes the world in the desire of the Destroyer of Nations
In the most basic sense, she devours souls and uses their energy to effect the environment around her. The more she devours equals the more power has to be at the disposal of Hasmallim.
So back to the soul.
The Cake Universe is about balance. If there is light, there is darkness. If there is life there is death. If there is a live(white) soul, then there must be a dead(black) one. Matter/Anti-Matter. Therefore a dead soul has shape and form and can be sucked. Unlike a live soul which can be used up and released; a dead soul is like a rechargeable battery. It can be used, recharged, used again and again with each recharge lessening until it is finally discarded. Ie. A live soul can be used up in weeks. A dead soul can hang around for 10 years, suffering and reducing. A true purgatory.
A recharge would be the taking of a new soul. Most of that energy would be automatically absorbed into the soul that was already waiting there.
Various sources have claimed that the soul governs the body and the actions and the will. So there is a danger to using a dead soul. While there is a ready and constant power source there is a chance of the dead soul at the height of a recharge to actually take over control of the sword if the will is strong enough. If the will is dark enough. And I think Alarik is dark enough to do that. *shiver*
So yes, you can suck a dead soul but you hold a cobra by the tail and hope doesn’t turn around and bite your ass.
