Baby Steps
Jett sat in his room at his aunt and uncle\'s house the following two days. He couldn\'t believe that Janese could talk about his father like she had. Especially since she didn\'t know jack about it. Jett was even more mad at himself for going off on Janese like that. They were supposed to work out their problems. He didn\'t talk to anyone. Not even his parents or Miss Coretta. Gloria was worried about her nephew. He was usually talking her ear off about what he and Janese did. Gloria went up to Jett\'s room and knocked on the door.
\"Go away,\" Jett mumbled. Gloria came in anyway and cut the light on. She found her nephew lying in the bed with the blankets pulled over his face.
\"Jett, baby. You can\'t stay in the bed and sulk,\" Gloria said, pulling the blankets back. \"Have you been in your pajamas for the past two days?\"
\"Yea.\" ria ria sat down on the bed. \"How could she say something like that?\"
\"She was hurt. That was her only way of getting you back. She wanted you to feel like you made her feel.\"
\"That doesn\'t excuse it,\" Jett said.
\"And that doesn\'t excuse your behavior? At the restaurant and at her house? Jett, your eyes were popping out of your head! You told me yourself that Kayla was looking good.\"
\"She was! And so what!\"
\"If one of Janese\'s ex boyfriends came prancing in front of her and touched her like Kayla touched you, what would you have done?\" Jett balled up his fist and tightened his jaw. \"And what if he would have called Janese Nessie or some other pet name that you call her? And what if Janese would have stood by his side and not yours?\" Jett\'s hand eased up and he relaxed. He realized what his aunt was trying to say. \"Janese felt the exact same way.\" She gave Jett a kiss on the cheek. \"Just food for thought.\"
\"Thanks Aunt Glo.\"
\"A relationship takes time to grow, Jett. First you learn to crawl then you walk. You take baby steps, not big giant leaps.\"
\"Go away,\" Jett mumbled. Gloria came in anyway and cut the light on. She found her nephew lying in the bed with the blankets pulled over his face.
