Kale and Aidan sat on the couch with Mia in her apartment later that evening. She had just told them about her mother's surprising acceptance of their relationship.

"You see, Mia, there was nothing to be worried about," Kale said pulling her into his lap.

"I think your mother is very wise," Aidan commented. "She accepted us because you are her only child and she didn't want to risk losing you if she disapproved. Parents tend to make their children choose between their lovers and their family. Usually, they choose their lovers."

Aidan shook his head. "Well at least something worked out for the best today," he looked at Kale who nodded behind Mia. "Mia, there's something I have to tell you."

Mia moved to get out of Kale's lap but he held her to him. She glanced up at his serious face then back at Aidan. "What's going on?"

"You're fired," Aidan said.

Mia's body stiffened against Kale. He began to rub her arms to get her to relax. "What?" She asked in a low voice.

Aidan began to look a little nervous. "We couldn't possibly let you continue to work at the office since we can't seem to control ourselves whenever you're around."

"So you're firing me because you can't keep your hormones in check?" Mia stared at him in outrage. "I can't believe you Aidan. You and Kale were the ones who attacked me. I just came to bring you lunch!"

Aidan smiled. "And that was very sweet of you, we loved it, but rumors started circling around the office shortly after you left and it got to Lisa, the human resource manager."

Mia gasped. "Oh no..."

"We decided the best action to take to stop all of us from getting penalized was for you to not work there any longer. I wouldn't want to subject you to any nasty gossip either."

"I get punished for your mistakes?! That's so unfair!"

"Mia, we're only trying to protect you," Kale said.

"But it's not my fault!"

"You're right, we're very sorry," Aidan said.

Mia struggled against Kale as she tried to get to Aidan. She looked like she wanted to strangle him. "I just got a brand new office that I got to design all by myself. Now someone else will be taking my place?! You jerks!"

Aidan glared back at him noticing that he was clearly enjoying his situation. "You're not helping, Kale. Stop being an instigator and help me calm her down."

"Nope, she's your hellcat for the day. I told you she wouldn't take this well, but noo you just had to do it your way."

"You truly are a jerk," Aidan told him.

"As I was saying, you may not be able to work with us in the office anymore, but you can continue to work here at home or in our apartment or house. It doesn't matter where. We just want to get you away from prying eyes at the building. Kale and I will continue to pay you, but you won't be part of the company anymore, you'll strictly belong to us."

"Hmph, as it should be," Kale said arrogantly and folded his arms.

"I agree," Aidan said to Mia's surprise. He suddenly began to unbutton her shirt. "Can we have this conversation later?"

"What?" Mia asked in confusion.

He sighed. "You, always you, honey, but we'll go home for tonight if that's what you need. I'm sorry for what happened, but if it makes you feel any better, you can have another office at our house. We'll give you one of the rooms and let you decorate it anyway you like just like you did at work."

"Yes," Kale said hugging her from behind. "Whatever you want, top of the line computers, expensive furniture, whatever it takes to stop you from being angry at us."

"You know, Mia. You don't have to work at all. Let us take care of you instead; you're the most important person in our life. We'll give you whatever you want to make you happy. Don't you want to live a life of leisure?" Aidan asked.

Mia thought about it for a while. They painted a wonderful picture. Most women dreamed of a moment like this. "What would I do with myself with all that free time?"

"Enjoy it, you have no idea what it's like to be rich, don't you want experience it?" Kale asked.

"But who's going to be your executive assistant?" Mia asked frowning.

"We'll find someone," Aidan said.

Kale glanced at Aidan and shook his head as they drove back to their home in sea cliff. "You think I don't know what you're up to." He finally said.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Aidan said innocently, a tiny smile appeared on his lips.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about. If I didn't know any better I'd say you staged the entire event. Seducing Mia in the office with me as an unknowing pawn, letting people find out about it, firing her, and having her work at the house by bribing her with a new office is all part of your plan of getting Mia to move in with us permanently isn't it? She'll eventually get tired of driving back and forth to her apartment and you'll suggest she stay so that it will be more convenient."

"You think I would go that far to get Mia to stay with us?" Aidan asked, his blue eyes twinkling in the night.

"I know how that mind of yours works. When you're determined to get something you want, you're not as upfront as I am, you play behind the scenes making people think that it was their decision to do it in the first place. You're a lot more dangerous when it comes to me. With you, people don't even know what hit them; they just find themselves in a different situation good or bad. Sheesh, I'd hate to have you as an enemy."

Kale continued to stare at Aidan until he finally admitted it. "Okay, you're right. I'm only doing this for Mia. I guess I'm getting a little overprotective of her now that we're together and I hate the idea of her living alone. What if something happens to her and we can't get to her in time? She has nothing to protect her at her apartment, no security, not even a gun. Anyone can easily burst through her front door or climb through her window. Ever since I've read about that rapist on the prowl attacking women who lived alone in their homes, I've been worried about her. Mia would never stay with us if we asked her too, she's not ready to give up her freedom, yet, so I had to play it another way."

Kale nodded. "I know, she would never move in with us even if we told her about the rapist. She thinks she's so tough, as if nothing can happen to her as long as she fights back. She can't see what we see and that scares me."

"So you understand why I'm doing this?" Aidan asked.

"Yeah, I understand," Kale said.

"Until she starts to truly accept us as part of her life instead of constantly trying to show us how independent she is, and actually believe we will be here to take care of her no matter what, I have to resort to this, I don't like it, but what can I do?" Aidan hands gripped the steering wheel tightly. "She has no idea how much we worry about her and what the world is truly like out there. She's had a very sheltered life with her mother and nothing bad has ever happened to her. I want to keep it that way."

"We will keep it that way," Kale said agreeing wholeheartedly.
