“Lie still please,” Ellie strained her eyes to see the speaker inside the MRI machine.
“Take a deep breath and calm down,” Ellie took a deep breath and closed her eyes as she heard the machine whir and hum.
She controlled her breathing as she tried not to think of the confined space she was in.
The machine hissed and hummed again as she felt cold air touch her feet and soon her whole body. She opened her eyes to see Dr. Mir. “There we go, that wasn't to bad now was it,”
Ellie chuckled a bit as she shook her head. “Not so bad,” she said as she was helped up by one of the nurses.
“Ok well just from the overview everything looks fine. Some neurological activity has picked up. Looks more bright in there compare to the previous MRI we had done before you left the hospital.”
“that's good... right?” Ellie asked, she really wished Mel had tagged along, but her job prevented her. She rather preferred Mel to be in charged of the medical things.
“That is good, have Mel call me for the detail results okay.” Ellie nodded as she saw Angie standing outside the room.
“She all yours,” Dr. Mir called as Angie came in and smiled at him.
“Well how it go?” Angie asked as she helped Ellie out of her gown and helped her changed.
“So far so good,” was all that Ellie replied as she sighed deeply spacing out.
“Whoa I know that look, whats going on?” Angie asked as she helped Ellie off the table and into her chair.
“I'm not sure,” Ellie mumbled as Angie wheeled her out of the room.
“Your not sure or you just don't want to tell me, it's ok if you don't wanna tell me. None of my business to begin with.” Angie pushed her down the hallway. When they reached the elevators, Ellie pushed the down button. Once inside they were both alone.
“I think I was having an affair,” Ellie blurted out as she started to sob.
'oh geez,' Angie thought as the elevator doors opened and Angie quickly wheeled her outside. Out of people gazes. Once in the parking lot, Angie put the brakes on the wheelchair and crouch down taking Ellie's hands.
“Calm down, you said you think, so maybe it's true and maybe it's not. What's the evidence proving you were?” Angie took out a handkerchief and handed it to Ellie, as she dried her eyes.
“When we went to the office yesterday there was this woman, who was too friendly with me and she kissed me on the cheek, and and and I can feel it. Something had happened between us. Plus,” Ellie took a deep breath as she was talking so fast. “Plus my office at home it's empty. Apparently I was moving out. Or something.”
“Fuck,” Angie breathed out, it was juicy drama she had to admit herself. Yet it was a tragic drama. An affair was the mother of all marriage destroyer.
“So what happens now?” Angie asked as she opened the car door and helped Ellie in.
Ellie waited till Angie was in the car and was pulling out of the parking lot.
“I've been reading my diaries and I guess I chronologically have written major points of my life.”
“Let me guess you've also been reading it in chronological order.” Angie tapped her fingers on the steering wheel as they waited at a red light.
“Well yeah I've been reading it in order, so far I've read how Mel and I met.” Ellie stared blankly out the window.
“Well how about you skipped through the boring stuff and get to the major points.”
“Well they all seem like major points, some things I don't remember and are brand new information to me. Some other things I just remember no need to read those events.”
Angie nodded as she notice a familiar red truck was in the drive way.
“Oh great I don't need this,” Ellie mumbled as she saw her mom sitting in a chair on the front porch.
“what the deal with you and your mom?” Angie asked as she turned off the engine.
“Just conflict of ideas and the fact that she still doesn't approve of our homosexuality.”
“Our?”
“Yeah apparently my brother is gay too.”
“gee talk about drama,” Angie chuckled as she got off the car and helped Ellie off.
Maggie approached them as she leaned down to hug Ellie and kissed her on the cheek.
“Hello Angie,” Maggie greeted.
“Ma what are ya doing here?” Ellie asked as Maggie side stepped and Angie wheeled Ellie towards the house.
“you haven't called and Mel kept denying me the right to come over. I was worried.” Maggie said as she heard Ellie sigh.
“Ma don't be blaming Mel I asked her to do that. I needed time to myself.”
“But why?” Maggie asked cautiously, if Ellie was still reading her diaries, then most likely it was because of the incidents that happened when she left the house when she was eighteen.
“Stuff ma,” Ellie simply said as she opened the front door and wheeled herself in. Maggie was surprised to see Ellie moving on her own.
“a little tough love, but it gets the job done,” mention Angie at Maggie's astounded look.
“All right Ellie, I gotta go, well resume physio tomorrow okay?” Angie exclaimed as she clapped her hands together and patted Ellie's shoulder.
“good luck,” Angie murmured as she waved bye to both women and left.
“It's good to see your looking better now. Your rehabilitation seems quick.” Maggie commented as she sat on the couch and Ellie just stared at her mom and then at the clock hanging in the living room.
“Yeah well I'm on a strict physio regime that I'm responding good to. Plus Angie is a real good motivator.”
“And where is Melissa?” Maggie asked looking around.
“Mel's at work she had a presentation due.” Ellie replied as she fidgeted with her fingers. She hadn't had the chance to rummaged through the boxes they brought back from her office. She really wished Maggie hadn't come over. Now she was force to entertain her mother.
Maggie was about to speak, when they both heard the screeching sound of wheels.
Ellie smiled as she heard the slam of the car door.
“Mel's home,” Ellie uttered just as the front door flew open.
“EL-,” Mel stopped mid-step as she saw Maggie sitting on the couch. “Oh Hello Maggie,”
“Melissa,” Maggie greeted back.
Ellie used this chance to wheel herself into the kitchen. Maggie followed suits as Mel sat down and sighed. It was barely three in the afternoon. Mel really did not want to argue with Maggie. Although she was glad Angie called her to let her know what to expect when she got home.
Ellie got herself a yogurt as she felt her mom walking behind her, Ellie sighed as she placed the yogurt and her spoon on her lap as she closed the fridge and turned around.
“Mom what are you really doing here?” Ellie asked exasperated. “As I said I wanted to see how you were doing.”
“Well as you can see I'm fine,” Ellie passed her mother as she saw Mel coming in through the front door, with some boxes.
Ellie smiled as Mel walked by her and down the hallway.
“Ellie is there something bothering you, why don't you want me here?” Maggie asked as she placed her hands on Ellie's shoulders, she felt Ellie tensed up.
“Ma remember my first Christmas back from college?”
Maggie took Ellie's hands in hers, “Yeah Ma I need to figured out how the hell we function. I mean are you still in denial about Lucas?”
“What about your brother?” Maggie asked quickly and defensively.
“Ma maybe you should go home,”
(Friday 11am)
Ellie was home alone in her office, she had all three boxes open. She had stacks of paper piled in different places that were reachable from her chair. She glanced at the laptop on top of the bed, she could not find the charger for it. So she was still clueless about the content inside of it.
She took a stack of paper that where inside a manila color folder, she pulled out the cover sheet to see it was an estimate.
She quickly put it down and took another stack, the majority of all the stacks she had seen so far, were estimates, bid, and accounts that she had started.
She undid another another stack of paper and pulled the top page. She scanned it and froze.
It read: “Dissolution of Union,”
“The fuck,” Ellie breathed out as she read, her information was filled out in the application. Her signature was even at the bottom but the other parties information was blank. Also it wasn't dated.
Officially this was the nail that sealed the coffin. She was planning on leaving Mel. 'Probably for that Alexis chick,' she thought bitterly.
She placed the paperwork back in the folder and threw it on top of her laptop.
She opened another one and again read the front page, “Power of Attorney Authority.”
In it was both hers and Mel information, in which they each granted the authority to take legal action in case either of them were incapacitated in any way that prevented them from making a coherent decision about life and death.
She scanned the page looking for the date, she found it at the bottom with both their signatures. It was on June 3rd 2006.
Ellie quickly scanned looked around for the box that contained her diaries and quickly skimmed through them to find the date.
June 3, 2006
“Hey Elizabeth what the fuck does it mean in this line, third party must sign.”
I looked up to see Mel pushing her glasses closer to her face, she walked in with her khakis unbuttoned, her light blue shirt was unbuttoned also. I could see her bra and the color of her panties. At least she had her shoes on right.
“I gave you a week to fill that out and your asking for help now.” I got up as I grabbed the hem of her shirt and placed my hands on her hips. I felt her shivered as she lifted her hands up raising the paper up as I brought her closer and I nuzzled her neck. She lower her arms, as I was being half embraced by her.
“Yeah if you remember I had a presentation with Douglas, this is my shot to get that position that opened up. I'm tired of the petty advertisement and models I gotta do. I would like bigger and more serious projects. The pay gets bigger too, which would help me finished fixing up this place.”
I glanced my eyes around the room, the house needed a lot of fixing still. “True,” I mumbled as I sucked her neck softly.
“Ellie, I though you wanted to get to the registrant office by ten.” She moaned as I sucked on the pulse that was beating wildly on her neck.
“True also,” I said as she chuckled when I moved on to her more sensitive spot on her neck, towards the hollow end in the middle.
I did her pants and started to button her shirt. “Give it here,” I stepped back as I took he paper from her hand and notice her flushed face. She swallowed hard as she took deep breaths to calm herself.
“you have it done, this third party will be done when we go record this and have it entered in the hall of records.” I winked at her as she took the paper back.
“Oh okay then,” she nodded as she took her glasses off and clean them with the corner of her shirt.
“what happened to your lint-less cloth I gave you for your glasses.” I asked as she rolled her eyes to the side.
“I accidentally spilled coffee on it.” she admitted as I gave her an 'are you serious look.'
She smiled as she walked out of the room to get the rest of her paperwork.
(Present 5pm)
Mel walked into the house and it was eerily quiet. She put down the box of pizza she had picked up for dinner on the coffee table. She place the bag with her beer on the couch. She took off her messenger bag and dropped it at the beginning of the hallway as she walked, her ear twitch trying to hear any noise. She walked to the master bedroom but it was quiet, she looked to the side, her room door was open but no one was in it. She walked back down the hallway to Ellie's office, she slowly opened the door to be greeted with a sea of paperwork and Ellie stuck in the middle.
Mel took a deep breath as she was relieved to see Ellie ok.
“Hi,” Ellie greeted with a smile as she looked around and saw that she had no way to get out.
“Hey yourself,” Mel answered back as she side stepped carefully in. Ellie lifted her arms up as Mel picked her up and carried her out to the living room.
Ellie kissed Mel's cheek as she was setting her down on the sofa. Ellie noticed Mel's cheeks reddened.
“Be back,” Mel mumbled as she walked back to the room to get the chair.
Ellie saw the bag on the couch and peered in it, it was a packet of bottle of beers. Ellie frowned, Mel rarely drank and it wasn't good when Mel drank.
Mel came out of the hallway rolling her chair out.
“Pizza for dinner,” Ellie said as she pointed to the box in front of her. “Yeah, I don't feel like cooking sorry.” Mel pointed at the chair but Ellie shook her head. She was glad to be out of it in fact.
“The beer?” Ellie questioned as Mel picked up the bag, “those are mine for later.” Mel walked into the kitchen and place them in the fridge. She came back with the bag, apparently there was something else still.
“Here,” Mel handed a plastic package to Ellie. Ellie looked at the front, “Oh wow thank you.” It was a charger for her laptop.
Mel sat close to Ellie on the couch as Mel leaned over opened the box and grabbed two slices. It was a supreme pizza. Ellie's favorite.
Ellie ate to her hearts content as she and Mel watched TV. It had been a while since they actually watched television. Together especially.
“Want a soda or juice or what?” Mel asked as she stood up.
“How about a beer?” Ellie asked, Mel frowned, she wasn't sure about that. Sure Ellie was off her antibiotics finally and all she was taking was a series of vitamins to help her immune system.
Mel thought about it hard as she stood there, “Maybe I should call Angie and see,” Ellie just shrugged her shoulders as Mel fished out her cellphone from her pocket.
Mel dialed as she walked into the kitchen, she held the phone with her shoulder and chin as she opened the fridge and pulled out a beer for her.
“Hello gorgeous,” Angie answered the phone, Mel raised an eyebrow, “It me umm Melissa Diaz,”
“Of course I know who it is dork, what up?”
“Oh,” Mel mumbled as popped open the bottle.
“Hey I have a question?” Mel asked as she leaned over the sink and stared out the window seeing the sun set. She took a swig of her beer and involuntarily closed her eyes as she felt a pleasure from drinking. It had been a long long time since she drank. It had been a while, since the last time things didn't end good for her.
“Shoot for it, what's up? Wait let me guess you wanna know if its safe to bang?”
Mel coughed and spitted into the sink. “No, gosh no of course not.”
“Pity,” Angie replied, “Well I'll still answer that, It's cool as long as Ellie is into it and feels like it. Her stamina has been increasing with my work outs if ya know what I mean.” Mel could hear Angie chuckled at the other end. Mel was glad Angie didn't have the pleasure to see Mel blush like crazy.
“I was calling to see if it was okay for Ellie to have a beer.”
Mel felt the rush of blood to her head as she heard Angie scoff, “It's fine no more than three I recommend. Internally she's healed nicely and what she's taking it's just simple vitamins. Same vitamins she would be getting from certain food.”
Mel nodded as she realized no one could see her nod, “Ok well ok then that's all.”
“All right gorgeous have a good night see ya guys later.”
“Bye,” Mel uttered as she put her phone back in her pocket.
Mel walked out with an open beer for Ellie as she handed it to her.
“I'm guessing it's okay unless your being a rebel and letting me drink.” Ellie wrapped her lips around the opening of the bottle and she took a long drink.
“Its fine as long its no more than three, that was the rule of thumb I was given.” Mel commented as she picked up another slice of Pizza.
“Hand me another will ya love,” Mel froze a little, it was unusual to hear her pet names. Before the accident Ellie was a little too formal with Mel and Mel knew why but just didn't voice it.
'Alexis,' Mel thought as she finally seen the woman whom Ellie was planning on leaving her for. 'Question was why?' what did Alexis have that she didn't.' Mel closed her eyes and opened them quickly trying to control the tears she was feeling.
She took a long drink as she, slightly groaned.
Ellie took small sips with big bites of her pizza. It felt nice, she thought. She was glad to be out of the chair, and she liked the fact that she was so close to Mel.
Two hours later, Mel had downed four beers and Ellie two. Mel wasn't much of a drinker because she was drunk.
She was laying on the couch, her head on Ellie's lap as she mumbled nonsense away.
Ellie just kept running her fingers through Mel's hair. Mel relished the feeling and closed her eyes, she opened them and saw the room spinning as she decide to just keep them close.
Ellie stared blankly at the TV not really paying attention to what was going on.
The current TV show ended and Ellie figured out it was close to nine. 'fuck,' Ellie thought as she wondered how they were going to get to the room.
“Mel,” Ellie called out but she could hear Mel's soft breathing against her thigh.
“Shit,” Ellie cursed as she felt her legs falling asleep.
“Melissa,” she called again rubbing Mel's cheek.
“hmm,” Mel mumbled as she opened her eyes.
“We need to go to bed,” Ellie uttered close to Mel's ear. “Okay,” Mel slurred as she got up and started walking wobbly down the hallway.
“Hey,” Ellie manage to squeak out as she saw Mel disappear away.
Ellie shook her head and smiled as she saw Mel reemerge again.
“sorry,” Mel mumbled as she picked up Ellie. Ellie grabbed on for dear life, she wanted to be placed on the chair, she could have made to the room by herself. It was too late now though.
Mel took baby steps and Ellie prayed silently. The walk down the hallway seemed like an eternity but Ellie was glad when Mel practically dropped her on the bed.
Mel some how crawled in bed next to her and knocked out.
(A/N: I feel like I should skip around in the diary entries not go in chronological order. Or should I keep taking it slow and keep going in order. What ya think?)

“Yeah well I'm on a strict physio regime that I'm responding good to. Plus Angie is a real good motivator.”
“And where is Melissa?” Maggie asked looking around.
