Women's Intuition

As promised, here is the next one. Again, it's not quite as long as I wanted it to be, but beggars can't be choosers.

---------------------------------------------------------

[It was a strange moment for him. He couldn’t believe something like this could happen to him. It was both the best thing and the worst thing that could happen to him. That night they spent together was incredible. When he woke up, it was early in the morning, and she was already gone. He wished that she had stayed, but knew it was better that way. It was better that his parents wouldn’t find out.

That changed, however. It wasn’t a week later that he found out the news. She called him to let him know, but they didn’t say anything over the phone. They met up that night, and she told him that she was late. He didn’t have to ask to know what she meant. They didn’t declare it yet, but he hoped that it wasn’t true. It was his first time to do anything like that, but that might be why it did happen.

It had been three weeks now, and they knew without a doubt. He knew he shouldn’t have asked who’s it was, but he had to know it was his, and not Nathan’s. Lily wasn’t upset that he asked though. She knew the feeling he had. It would’ve been horrible to think about that. She knew, though, who its father was. She had known for a while. She expected that she was pregnant. Something in her told her so, and she liked that feeling.

She didn’t tell him that she ran the rest of the night away. It was such a great feeling. She was free, as free as the wind. She was warm that night. A warmth spread through her body from one spot even though it was cold out. Her legs never gave out, and she enjoyed that wonderful night that she made love with him; with David. She didn’t even tell him with words whose child it was. She didn’t have to say. He knew, just as she knew.

It was a Saturday when they told their parents. It was both of them together facing four people simultaneously. It was frightening for both of them. It showed in Lily, but in contrast David had a boldness in him. He knew what was right, and he would shrink down from this circumstance. He looked into each parents eye then started. “I have to tell you something. It’s better that we’re all here, and I’m sorry that we had to meet under these circumstances.

“About three weeks ago,” he started from the beginning, “I was in bed when I heard someone at my window. It was Lily. She climbed in and was in a terrible state. I couldn’t do nothing, so I tried to comfort her.” A small faint smile spread across her face. “Because of that, she kissed me. I returned it to her in like fashion.”

Lily couldn’t wait, and interrupted. “I’m pregnant.”

Everyone was in shock, even David. “I thought I was going to tell them.”

“It was taking too long.” She pleaded with him with both her eyes and her mouth. “I love you David, but this isn’t something you can sugarcoat.”

“I love you too, Lily,” he looked deeply into her, “but I was going to say that I wanted to marry you.”

“I want to marry you too.” Lily said as both their parents just looked at the both of them.

Hugging each other, they forgot about their parents who were standing now. They didn’t say a word and left the room leaving the two alone. Lily’s parents knew David was a good boy, and that he would grow to be a good man. They talked to his parents, and wished that they wouldn’t be hard on him. They both agreed, though, that the two were too young for a child, so they planned an adoption.

After Lily, and David noticed that they were alone, they looked for their parents, who were outside. “I’m sorry.” David said.

“It’s fine.” His father said. “We see that you care for her deeply. This doesn’t mean you can keep doing what you’re doing, though.”

“We haven’t since.” He assured them.

“Good.” His father also added, “We believe you should put the baby up for adoption.”

Lily looked a little sad, but responded. “I think it would be best. I would like to have her, but it’s too early.”

“Her?” David questioned. “It’s too early to tell.”

“I spoke out of turn.” She was equally confused.

“Don’t doubt what you said, dear.” David’s mother said. “It may very well be a girl.”

And in nine months later, they found out it was a girl. She looked at the baby, and wished they could be together. Her Samantha, a beautiful girl that would never know her mother. Maybe when the time presented itself, she would be able to be a part of that family, but not then. David got all the papers ready, and gave it to the hospital so she could find a place to live.]

Now here she was with a boy she liked who she thought was her brother, and loved him. David looked at them one more time before leaving the room completely. Nathan followed after him. David had kept everything quiet for Lily. Since the day Samantha came in, he had promised not to say anything. Lily had said she wanted to do it herself, when she was ready. If she hadn’t died, she might’ve already said something. He didn’t know that though. He had to say something now.

“I know you saw it, too.” Nathan said. “I thought so before, but after you looked at them a second time. I knew without a doubt.”

“Yes,” He said. “it’s painful to see, since she thinks he’s her brother.”

“Thinks?” He didn’t understand, yet. “I think you mean knows.”

“No,” he looked relieved to say, “she’s mine.”

---------------------------------------------------------

The two of them kept staring at each other. It was a lifetime and a half. So much was going on in their heads. Jim saw only the girl Samantha. Someone he wanted to date, and maybe live with for the rest of his life. Samantha saw a half-brother who had kissed her in a way that made her want it to happen again. He was her brother though. It always came back. Jim couldn’t believe that she was his sister. Samantha couldn’t believe he was her brother.

Nathan had said she was. Not by his words, but by his actions. Jim knew his father believed her to be his sister, but he didn’t know. He looked at her not as a sister, but as someone he wanted. He felt no connection other than attraction. He liked that he found someone that could run. He had always been looking for someone to keep up with him, and he found her. The only reason he invited her to run was so he could be near her. He was selfish, he knew, but it didn’t matter.

Chloe had said they didn’t look alike, and Samantha knew that. She didn’t see anything of Nathan in her when she looked closely. David had said that Jim looked more like his mother Eveline. She knew she looked exactly like Lily, so there was that doubt. It could be possible that he was her brother. But, she still didn’t see anything of Nathan in her. She knew that both Lily and Nathan ran, so that was no help. She had feelings for Jim though.

She motioned to Chloe, “I need to use the bathroom.” As she got up she whispered, “Don’t let him leave.”

So as not to intrude on David and Nathans conversation, she used the public bathroom. She left the two alone, Jim looking after her. When she was in the bathroom, Jim looked back at Chloe. He didn’t know what to say, and was still for a while. “So do I.” He got up and headed towards the bathroom.

“At least he’s not leaving,” Chloe laughed to herself.

---------------------------------------------------------

“Why did I come in here?” I asked myself. I kept thinking back to Jim. “This isn’t right, but I still think about it.”

Here I was talking to myself. “I love him. I do.” I was amazed I could say it so clearly.

“I love Jim.” I repeated, then noticed the reflection in the mirror. “Jim?”

“Hi,” I laughed, “what’s so funny?”

“Here I am professing my love in front of you, and all you can say is ‘Hi’” I continue to laugh.

He laughed too. “I guess that is funny.”

We both laughed our heads off. A moment ago, we were sitting in a booth thinking about how terrible Nathan used to be, and now we’re here laughing about what Jim said. We didn’t think about the fact that we were related, but that was the strangest thing. We didn’t think about it. We closed in together, and held each other up. And before we knew it, we kissed again. Oh how amazing it was. We forgot everything. It was just us. His mouth was so warm. It was like the night in the hospital all over again.

We were interrupted though. We could hear a loud “WHAT!?!” coming from outside. We both ran out and saw that Chloe was staring towards the kitchen. She looked back at us equally confused, or maybe even more so since we came out of the same bathroom. We headed to the kitchen to see Nathan on the floor.

“She really IS yours David?” He asked very loudly.

“She is.” He looked at me. “I’m sorry I didn’t say sooner. Lily made me promise.”

Nathan composed himself and looked at me. “How do you know for sure?”

“Lily said so.” David looked confused for the first time.

“I don’t think that counts, David.” Nathan said. “Have you done a paternity test?”

“Why would I have to?” He still looked confused. “I believe Lily.”

“Da…” I started to say dad, but changed it quickly, “David?”

He looked at me, and I could tell he believed I was his child. “I think we should get the test done.” I told him with my eyes that I believed him.

“Ok.” He smiled at me. “We can’t do it right now though.”

“Why not?” Nathan seemed upset.

“Dad,” Jim spoke up. “Look at the time.”

It was too late. He felt stupid, and it showed. As both Nathan and Jim started to leave, I stopped Jim. I pulled him off to the side and talked briefly. I told him to not worry. I believed that David was right. I could feel it somehow. I think Jim felt something of his own because he kissed me again. It was amazing how girly I felt. I was wanting to giggle. I couldn’t believe it.

After they left, we all went upstairs. I had a family. We were all hopeful that it would turn out positive on David’s side. I couldn’t sleep, and neither could Chloe. We stayed up and discussed a lot. She wondered what was with me taking Jim off alone, and I told her. She was happy for me, and hoped with all her might that I was her sister fully. We ended up falling asleep with the light on. And I had a nightmare.

---------------------------------------------------------

I didn't know whether to call this one "women's intuition" or "who needs a paternity test, anyways?" I like them both. Please let me know what you think.
