Maurice was pissed. Not only had Sydney left the house against his wishes days ago, Mailynn had refused to let Ashton feed. He hadn't even know she had made that decision. It wasn't hers to make. He stormed through the house and everyone stayed out of his way. When he became angry it was best to leave him be and pray that Maurice didn't take it out on them.
"Mailynn!" he shouted climbing the stairs to their bedroom. He threw the door open and it slammed against the wall. Mailynn was sitting in a small chair staring out the window at the falling rain. She turned and smiled at her husband.
"Maurice, what has you in such a bad room?" she asked.
"why have you forbidden Ashton to be fed?" he was on the edge of screaming.
"What do you mean?" she came to her feet and walked towards him.
"You can't lie or sweet talk your way out of this of this one. I know you told the watchers not to feed him. I want to know why." The smile on Mailynn's face vanished. Her features took on a more harsh tone.
"I love our son. I really do, but you know how he gets when he's upset. If we would have fed him then he would probably never have calmed down. This way he is weaker, unable to fuel his anger."
"That is not your say, Mailynn. You do not make those choices without consulting me. Let alone make them at all." He took a step towards her. "He will be fed starting now and he will be let out. If you don't agree with that, I'm sorry." he turned and left the room, leaving her with what he had said.
Mailynn sighed and went back to the window. Maurice could say all he wanted but she knew that he was losing his edge. The vampires were growing restless, needed a new master. Most of the vampires were loyal to Maurice but a good number were tiring of him. Mailynn planned to be their new leader with the help of her daughter. Even now Sydney was in Astoria seeing all that was going on and how the weak the vampires really were. Edward and Jaicyn were strong, the stability of the rest was up for grabs. If their masters fell, the kiss was hers to take. She grinned to herself. This was all to easy. Maurice had no idea what was going on. Neither did Savannah and Ashton. Those two would be easy to dispose of. Many "accidents" could happen to them at any given time. She had plenty of people to help get rid of them.
Mailynn thought back over the last twenty years when she had first met the man who had set her on her way to rule. Since then so many things had happened that it was hard to keep track of it all. She sat back down in the chair. The plans she had made gave her chills. It was going to be a blood bath.
Maurice made his way to the lower levels of his home. These rooms were underground to ensure no sunlight reached inside its walls. It was where he and his family slept. They did have their rooms upstairs, but they slept down here. The dungeon was down here, too. He walked past the rows of doors until he came to the one with the watchers.
"Next time do not follow orders unless I have given them to you personally." Both of them nodded. "Open the door." They turned and placed a key in the door. The locks gave and the door swung open. One of them went in and picked up all the crosses and placed them in a big trunk. This was why some humans worked for him. Maurice went in.
He could faintly hear Ashton running his nails down the door. The two men put the keys in the door and it opened out towards them. Ashton fell out onto the floor, Maurice hardly recognized him. His skin was pulled across his bones, making him look like a dried mummy. His lips had shrunk over his lips making them visible without having to move his lips. Clumps of his hair had fallen out and what remained had thinned.
Maurice fell to his knees. "Ashton," he whispered. He ripped away the shoulder of his own shirt exposing his neck. He pulled Ashton up and pressed his face to his neck. "Drink." Maurice told him. At first Ashton didn't move. He didn't have that much strength. He opened his mouth and put his mouth against the cool flesh of his father's. He just couldn't bite down. Maurice pushed down on Ashton's head so his teeth pierced Maurice's neck. The blood poured into Ashton's mouth. It was cold and thick. It clung to the inside of his mouth. It was delicious. The blood from his father was filled with so much power and energy.
Ashton locked his teeth in the flesh and began to drink faster. He wanted as much in him as he could get. It wasn't often that his father donated blood so he wanted to make it worth while. Maurice let Ashton drink until he had to be pulled off. Too much blood could act on him like alcohol, making him drunk off power. Ashton's appearance was back to normal. Maurice sighed in relief.
The two watchers stared at them both. They longed to be a donor to the vampires in this house but all had refused to drink from humans. The power that had flooded the room left impressions on their skin. It tingled on the flesh and raised gooseflesh on them. what they wouldn't give to be on the receiving end of that power.
"Are you okay?" Maurice asked. Ashton nodded.
"I think so. Why didn't you let me feed?" Ashton asked confused. It had surprised him. His father wasn't that cruel.
"It was your mother. I only found out about it today or I would have come to you sooner." Ashton's face turned hard. He clenched his teeth and became utterly still.
"She has gone too far this time, father. You have to let her know she can't do everything she wants." He was angry. This was the lowest things that she had ever done and it could have killed him. A few more days and his father would have found a corpse.
"I intend to speak with her. Do not worry about that. It will be taken care of." Maurice told him. He came to his feet and Ashton followed. They left the room with the watchers behind them. Ashton changed the subject.
"Have you found Elizabeth yet?" He asked Maurice.
"Not yet I'm afraid. But I have spoken with other state masters and she's being looked for in more than one state." He put a hand on Ashton's shoulder. "We'll find her. I promise, Ash." Ashton nodded absentmindedly. "There are things I could use your help with if you feel up to it." Maurice offered.
"I'd like that. It might help me keep my mind off of this for now." Maurice smiled.
"Then let's get going." Together they went up to the stairs leading back up into the house.
