The Final Battle

Chapter Fifteen: The Final Battle.

Jordan watched as she got in the car and drove away through the gates. He reached back and pulled out a silver gun and held the cold steel between his fingers…

(Memories, Within Temptations)

Chase came by and stood beside Jordan watch his wife drive off; he glanced down and saw the gun between his shaking fingers. “I’m coming with you.” he said and Jordan looked at him and shook his head.

“No it’s too dangerous, there are too many people involved as it is.” Jordan said and began walking to his car to follow his wife.

“You’re going to need help Uncle Jordan, help me help you. I need to be sure Leila is going to be okay. Just like Isabelle is your life Leila is mine.” He said and Jordan looked at him a moment before nodding.

“Get in.” in said and he quickly complied. Jordan ripped through the gates with amazing speed to catch up to Isabelle.

“Chase, when we get in there I want you to take Leila and get out as soon as possible you got that?” Jordan asked glancing at Chase who nodded.

Jordan’s dark eyes darted back to the road and in the distance he spotted Isabelle’s black convertible speeding down the road his eyes never left her car all the while keeping his distance so she wouldn’t recognise his car.

Chase recognised the worry in his eyes; it must have been the same in his own. He wouldn’t live if something happens to Leila. That thought alone scared him.

Isabelle’s mind was racing; she had less than ten minutes to get to the warehouse before Rick puts a whole through her baby’s head. With that thought she pressed down harder on the accelerator and the car shifted faster and faster.

Ten minutes later Isabelle’s car slowly came to a stop her eyes coldly looking at the warehouse. Two guards were standing outside with weapons guarding the place.

Isabelle closed her eyes and tears streamed down her cheeks before she wiped them away and stepped out.

The guards noticed her walking towards them and raised their weapons their eyes bouncing the area making sure Isabelle was in fact alone.

She stood tall, well as tall as she could at five foot three and glared icily at the guards. “Isabelle Tyler?” one of the guards asked and Isabelle looked at him blankly.

“Callaway…” she corrected bleakly and the guards smiled and stepped aside opening the doors to let her by.

“By the way, I see where your daughter gets her good looks from. I just wonder if you feel as good as she does.” Isabelle’s hands turned to fists by her sides.

“If any of you harmed my daughter in any way so help me god I will make sure you die in the worst possible way.” She threatened.

“Your daughter is safe, she hasn’t been touched in anyway Mrs Callaway.” Another voice from behind her said making her turn around and face him.

The guy was young and as tall as Jordan and muscular, he had violet eyes and a gentle smile. Definitely not the killer type, Isabelle studied him for a moment before talking.

“Who the hell are you?” she asked narrowing her blue eyes at him.

“Names Marc, it’s nice to finally meet you. My fathers been obsessing about you for the past twenty years, now I see why.” Isabelle blinked.

“Where’s Leila?” she asked quickly. Marc looked over his shoulder before gesturing with his head.

“Come with me.” he said and Isabelle followed cautiously. They turned a corner and came to a wide open space.

Isabelle’s eyes scanned the room and her eyes settled on Leila tied to a chair a gun pressed to her temple. She gasped. “Leila.” She said attempting to go to her side but Rick’s cold voice stopped her.

“Stop right there, Isa.” He said his finger on the trigger. Isabelle looked at Leila she had tears streaming down her face, her eyes were rimmed red filled with such pain it made Isabelle ache.

“Let her go Rick, this is between you and I.” she said glaring at him icily.

Rick smiled. “Aww baby, see that’s where you’re wrong.” He said turning his face and Isabelle gasped when she saw half his face was severely burnt. “See your beautiful daughter here wasn’t supposed to be born. You lied to me Isabelle you never got rid of the brat you were carrying.” He said and Isabelle swallowed hard.

“Let her go and you can do whatever you want with Me.” she said her eyes filled with tears.

Rick laughed, “Oh Isabelle, killing you isn’t enough. I want you to suffer like I did for years.”

“I did suffer; you made my life a living hell. You took everything from me, the man I loved and you wanted me to kill my own baby.” She spat with hate.

“And you tried to kill me it’s a good thing I had my men hanging around just in case. I may have loved you Isabelle but that didn’t mean I trusted you. Your love for Callaway was strong I saw it in your eyes every time I looked into them. I knew you weren’t over him, but I was foolish enough to believe you might learn to love me too one day.” He said his cold grey eyes glaring at her.

“Do you blame me; look at you Rick how did you expect me to fall in love with you when you were forcing me to do all your dirty work. If you had treated me half as good as Jordan did, showed half the affection Jordan did then maybe I could have. But you were nothing but a cold blooded killer and I hated you.” she said and Ricks jaw twitched. “It’s been years and here you are still trying to make my life hell well it ends tonight. Let my daughter go and do what you have to with me so I can find peace once and for all.”

“You have a son Rick, how would you feel if someone put a bullet through his brain?” she asked and Rick looked at Marc who was looking back at him intensely.

“All I ever wanted was to be with you, for you to notice me, but you never did. I could have given you everything you wanted Isabelle.” He said and Isabelle shook her head.

“No Rick I had everything I ever wanted. The only good thing that came out of knowing you was Jordan. He gave me everything I needed, he showed me how to love and loved me in a way no other man ever could. He gave me three beautiful kids.” She told him and saw the envy flash in Ricks deep grey eyes.

“Dad let Leila go, you got what you want. She hasn’t done anything wrong.” Marc said earning himself a glare from his father.

“Stay out of this Marc.” He said coldly and Marc rolled his eyes.

“You made me a part of this when you asked me kidnap Leila. You said you were going to let her go once you got her mother.” He said standing straight his posture stiff.

Isabelle looked between father and son and only then realised how different they actually were. Marc was just a pawn in the whole situation just like she was years ago.

“Obviously you don’t know your father very well Marc. His words don’t stand for shit.” She said and Rick arched a brow.

“I don’t think you’re in any position to be running your mouth Isabelle.” He warned pressing the gun further into Leila’s head and she whimpered.

“Mom, his going to kill you please just go.” She cried and Isabelle shook her head.

“Rick let her go, for once in your life stand by your words. I held my end of the deal now it’s your turn.” She said narrowing blue eyes to slits.

Rick held Isabelle’s gaze for a moment before pulling the gun from Leila’s head and pointing it at Isabelle. Instinctively Isabelle gasped and took a step back her heart pounding harder in her chest every passing second.

Rick smiled, “Just shooting you will be too easy. I want to watch you sweat a little.” He said stepping closer to her.

Isabelle took a step back and gasped when Rick grasped her shoulders and pulled her into him. He looked deeply into her eyes and saw nothing but hate burning in them, he smiled and buried his nose in to her hair taking in her scent.

“Mm, you always did smell so good. The years have done you justice Isabelle; you’re even more beautiful than before.” He whispered and Isabelle’s stomach churned when the gun was pressed into her stomach.

“I’m not going to kill you Isabelle.” He said and Isabelle swallowed hard. “You’re going to do it yourself.” He said with an evil grin.

Isabelle blinked. “What?” she asked concern edging her voice.

“If you want your daughter to keep breathing, you take your own life, one bullet right through that pretty little head of yours.” He told her and Isabelle’s stomach tied itself into knots.

“Mom, don’t listen to him.” Leila cried and Isabelle felt her heart shatter into a million pieces.

“Let Leila go and I will do whatever you want.” She said dimly. Rick gestured with his head and Marc swiftly untied Leila.

“Mom, please you can’t do this…let go of me.” she cried struggling against Marc who held her close to his chest.

Rick gestured with his head and a man stood around Isabelle a gun pointed at her. She felt the cold steel slip into her finger and tears streamed down her cheeks as she shared one last look with Leila who was screaming.

“NO, MOM!” Leila screamed when Isabelle raised the gun and pressed it to her temple. Rick stepped away a few feet and watched her as she trembled, the gun shaking wildly in between her fingers.

Jordan and Chase were stood at the back of the warehouse watching the two guards that were minding the entrance with guns in their hands. “Alright, I’ll take the one on the right can you handle the one on the left?” Jordan asked and Chase gave him the ‘Are-you-kidding-me-look’ in return.

“Yeah, no problem,” He said about to walk off but Jordan stopped him a look of concern in his eyes. “I’ll be fine.” He assured him and Jordan nodded in return but his heart was pounding like crazy in his chest.

Chase nodded and ran to the other side of the warehouse. Jordan gave the signal and they both stepped out quietly sneaking up to the guards who were engaged in a deep conversation. Jordan’s guard spotted Chase behind his buddy and raised his gun while Chase’s assailant saw Jordan and raised his.

“Hey.” Jordan and Chase said in unison and both guards turned to face them only to get socked in the face with a solid right hook. Both guards fell to the floor while Jordan and Chase took their weapons and searched for others while they were knocked out un-arming them.

“That was easy.” Chase said out of breath as he kicked his guard in the gut for good measure.

“Too easy.” Jordan said looking at the guards on the floor. “Come on.” He said and they both pulled the door back and cautiously entered the dim lighted building.

“Maybe we should have called the cops?” Chase suggested in a low whisper.

“Already did, they should be here soon which is why we should hurry and get Leila and Isabelle out before they get here, otherwise this place is going to turn into a blood bath.” He said back as they quietly walked further in.

Jordan stopped when he heard voices echoing in the distance. “You hear that?” he asked and Chase nodded.

“NO MOM!” they heard Leila’s scream echo in the building and Jordan’s heart jumped to his throat. Without even blinking they both ran to where the voices came from. Turning the corner Jordan stopped dead in his tracks at the sight before him, Isabelle was stood in the centre holding a gun to her head while a guy held Leila while she was screaming and struggling against him trying to break free. Rick was standing a few feet in front of Isabelle smiling while another guard held a gun at Isabelle.

“Jesus…” Jordan heard Chase mumble beside him. His fingers tightened around the steel gun and he ran further into the room, Chase following closely behind him his eyes fixed on Leila.

“ISABELLE!” he cried and watched as all eyes turned and looked at him. He raised his gun and pointed it at Rick and Chase did the same to the guard that was holding Leila.

“Let her go.” Chase said slowly.

“Marc don’t you dare let her go, he wont shoot its too risky.” Rick said his eyes on Jordan who was glaring at him.

“Isabelle, you know what you have to do.” Rick said his eyes turning to look at Isabelle who was looking at her husband.

“Isabelle, don’t…” Jordan shook his head gazing into her eyes pleadingly. Once again tears slid past Isabelle’s eyes.

“I’m sorry.” She said and turned to look at Rick again who was smiling.

She closed her eyes for a moment. She could hear Jordan and Leila’s voices screaming in her head. Her finger tightened on the trigger as tears fell from her eyes.

“ISABELLE NOO…”

Her entire body was shaking like crazy, she couldn’t do it. She couldn’t take her own life. With a whimper she pulled the gun away from her head and pointed it at Rick who frowned.

“Isabelle, you can’t get out of this. If you shoot me my men will shoot you. You have nothing to gain.” He said but Isabelle shook her head.

“I don’t care, either way I’m going to die tonight. At least this way I finish what I should have a long time ago.” She said her voice shaking.

Rick looked at his son who was looking at Isabelle while holding Leila as she was crying and screaming to be let loose.

“Isabelle, please…” she heard Jordan’s voice behind her.

“This battle ends tonight. I’ll see you in hell asshole.” She said and quickly pulled the trigger a shot fired the loud bang ringing in her ears. Everything after that was a blur to Isabelle. All she remembered was a hole in Ricks head that’s all she saw until she heard another shot and a sudden pain that caught her breath. Screams and various gun shots echoed in the distance until Isabelle heard familiar voices in her ears.

She looked down to her hands which were dripping with blood, her knees buckled and she fell hitting the cold floor hard.

She struggled to keep her eyes open; her body shook like it never has before. She gasped when she felt something warm around her waist.

“NOOO!” Leila screamed as she saw her mother fall to the floor in a pool of blood. The next shot that fired was at Leila but Marc pulled her out of the way taking the shot which hit him in the arm.

Leila fell to the floor and watched as her father shot the guy who shot his wife and tried to shoot her in the head before falling to his knees beside Isabelle taking her into his arm and shaking her.

Leila flew to her feet and ran to her mother’s side dropping to her knees followed by Chase who wrapped his arms around her his brown eyes filled with tears.

“Isabelle, baby look at me…” Jordan said gazing into his wife’s hazy blue eyes.

“Jordan...” She breathed while shaking in his arms. “L-Lei-la?” she asked and Jordan looked up to see her beside Isabelle.

“I’m right here.” she said taking Isabelle’s hand into hers. Isabelle turned her head and looked at her daughter before smiling.

“I’m so sorry…” she said and Leila shook her head.

“No don’t you be sorry, you’re not going any where you’re going to be fine.” She cried.

Isabelle smiled and squeezed Leila’s hand with what strength she had left. Her eyes once again met her husbands sorrow filled ones. “I’m cold.” She said her teeth clattering.

“Nooo, Isabelle. Please you have to hold on for me please. You can’t die on me, you can’t.” he cried kissing the hand that was clutching his own.

Tears slid past Isabelle’s blue eyes. “If I were to die any w-where I’m thankful it-s in y-your arms.” she cried and Jordan shook his head.

“You’re not going to die, not like this; it’s not your time. You promised me Isabelle, you promised we would die together when we’re in our nineties snuggled up in bed together. There are so many things I haven’t done with you yet, so many things I haven’t said to you. so much of you I haven’t kissed yet” he said kissing her forehead.

“Can you do something for me?” she asked quietly.

“Anything.”

“Can you kiss me one last time?” she asked and Jordan nodded and leaned forward pressing his lips to her cold ones. He ached like he never had before. She shook in his arms her lips quivering at his touch.

Jordan pressed his forehead to hers. “Don’t leave me; please don’t leave me I can’t survive without you.” he cried helplessly.

In the distance sirens were heard. And within seconds an army of police officers came rushing in with paramedics.

Jordan looked back down to find Isabelle’s eyes were slowly closing. “Isabelle….” He shook her gently and she opened her eyes struggling to focus on him.

“Its time…” She whispered lifting her blood stained hand and touched his cheek.

“No, no nooo don’t you dare close your eyes you hear me? God please…” he whimpered pressing his face into her chest where he could hear her heart rate slowing down. “ISABELLEEE…!”

“Sir, step aside.” someone said pulling Jordan away from Isabelle. Chase was holding onto Leila who was watching with wide eyes as the paramedics got to work on Isabelle. They put an oxygen mask over her mouth and hooked her up to a machine.

“Pulse is low,” One of them said. “She’s going into full arrest.” He said after a moment.

The other ripped open Isabelle’s shirt and brought out a paddle machine. The machine she was hooked on beeped and showed a flat line. “Paddles.” The paramedic said holding out his hands. “Gel.” He said and they squirt some gel on the paddles and rub them together before pressing them to her chest. “Clear.” He says and they all stand by and watch as Isabelle’s limp body jumps but remains lifeless.

“Recharge.” The paramedic says and tries again and nothing.

“Damn it Isabelle, come on.” Jordan said watching her waiting for her to open her eyes.

“Again, 140.” Isabelle’s body jumps and the machines beep showing her pulse. “Atta girl, Lets move, now.” Isabelle’s instantly carted off on to a bed and rolled out to where an air ambulance is waiting for her.

Jordan never left her side the whole way to the hospital he held her hand whispering things to her. “Is, I know you can hear me. Please just hold on.” He whispered pressing kisses to her forehead. “Stay with me baby.”

Twenty minutes later, Jordan was frantically pacing the hospital while Isabelle was in surgery. Leila and Chase were sitting in the corridor. Leila was staring off into space her tired blue eyes unblinking pooled with tears while resting her head on Chase’s chest the rhythm of his heart comforting her somewhat.

The double doors behind Jordan slammed open when Jaiden, Dayne Kelly and Josh came running in. Jaiden stopped dead in tracks when he saw Jordan was covered in blood. Dayne visibly paled leaning on a wall behind him he slid down on the floor.

Jaiden was looking into his father’s eyes trying to find some serenity or hope but found nothing but worry and sorrow. He shook his head and Jordan pulled him into his arms where he broke down and cried.

Leila watched her brother cry in her father’s arms and her eyes pooled with tears. She looked over to where Kelly was holding onto Dayne who was shaking with hoarse sobs. She slowly stood up and walked over to him kneeling in front of him.

Dayne looked up and met her eyes she opened her arms and took her baby brother into her them where they both cried. “She’s going to be fine.” She told him soothingly while they rocked together.

Kelly moved over to her brother was tried to keep himself together but one touch from Kelly and he crumbled. He slid to the floor whimpering helplessly into Kelly’s chest. “I won’t survive without her Kel, I don’t know how. I won’t make it if I lose her.” He cried.

“Shh, Jordan she’s going to make it though. Isabelle’s tough and she loves you too much to leave you.”

“How could she do this, how could she think for a second that I could live without her?”

“She’s not going to die Jordan. Her love for you will help her through this. You have been through too much for it to end like this.” She said inwardly praying for her brother and his kid’s sake that she was right. If Isabelle doesn’t make it through the family will be destroyed.

Kelly remembered years ago how bad he took it when they broke up, she didn’t even want to imagine what Jordan will be like if she died. He really wouldn’t survive. None of them would.

Hours washed by and Isabelle was still in surgery. By now Dru his husband Keenan, Kyle and both Jordan’s parents were at the hospital waiting anxiously.

Jordan was pacing back and forth unable to sit in one place. Leila had cried herself to sleep in Chase’s arms. She was curled into a ball with his arms securely around her waist.

Jaiden was sitting on a chair staring off into space while Dayne was anxiously fumbling with his fingers. Kelly was watching Jordan pace back and forth when the theatre’s doors opened and doctors stepped out looking exhausted after a four hour surgery.

Jordan rushed over to the doctor as everyone else jumped to their feet. “How is she?” he asked and the doctor pulled off his mask and scratched his chin.

“The surgery took longer than we anticipated. Your wife lost a lot of blood but she’s hanging in there. We successfully removed the bullet which caused damage to one of her kidneys which we were forced to remove.” Jordan’s shoulders relaxed visibly.

“Is she going to make it?” Dru asked and the doctor nodded.

“We’re hopeful, but she isn’t out of the woods as of yet. We’ll keep a close eye on her as the first 24 hours are critical.”

“So, you’re saying there’s a possibility she could still die?” Jaiden asked his voice heavy with emotion. The doctor nodded sadly.
“Let’s not think negatively, she’s responding well at the moment and there is no reason for us to believe she won’t be making a full recovery. We will be taking her to ICU soon to keep an eye on her and in the next 24 hours we should know more.” Everyone nodded.

“Can I see her?” Jordan asked and the doctor nodded with a smile.

“Of course, but lets keep it to one person at a time okay?” Jordan nodded and his eyes looked over to the double doors that opened and Isabelle was wheeled out tubes in her mouth, an I.V drip attached to her hand and she was hooked to a heart monitor.

Everyone followed Jordan and Isabelle back to ICU. They all waited outside while they settled Isabelle into the room.

The doctors came out informing them that they could go in one at a time. They all looked at Jordan who stood rooted in his spot. “You guys go ahead, I’ll wait.” He said and watched as Leila went in first.

Through the blinds he watched as Leila pressed a soft kiss on her mother’s forehead and said something to her before walking out a few minutes later.

Everyone went in one by one the kids were sitting in the hall with their heads in their hands. The others had gone home straight after.

“Hey, why don’t you kids head off home and get some rest.” Jordan told them and watched as they all shook their head.

“No, there’s no way I’m leaving mom when she’s like this.” Jaiden said peering at his father with tired eyes.

“Me too, I won’t be able to rest knowing she’s in this state.” Dayne said rubbing his temples.

“There’s nothing any of us can do except wait around and pray she makes it through this. I’ll be here with her.” he said and his eyes fell on Leila who was looking at her feet. “Take your sister home-”

“-No, I’m not going anywhere.” She said shaking her head.

“Honey you have had a rough couple of days, you need to rest. You can come back tomorrow well rested and refreshed.” Jordan told her and she shook her head.

“No I can’t go back to that house, not while mom is in here fighting for her life.” She said choking up in tears again.

Chase wrapped an arm around her shoulder pulling her into him. “You can stay with me. You’re father’s right Leila you look beat.” He told her and Leila remained silent.

“Kids please I have enough to worry about right now without having to worry about you guys too.” Jordan said and watched as they nodded slowly.
“You’ll call us if anything happens right?” Dayne asked his red rimmed eyes looking up at his fathers.

“Yeah, I will I promise.” He said and the kids nodded before getting up to leave. “Um Leila can I have a word?” Leila looked at her father and nodded pulling out of Chase’s embrace she walked over to him.

“Listen I just wanted to apologise--”

“—No daddy, you don’t have to apologise, I never should have said those things to you.” She said quietly dropping her gaze.

“That’s no excuse Leila; I never should have hit you. You were right about everything you said I am to blame, for all of this.” He said dejectedly.

“How could you think that, you only did what any father would do, you gave us all the best of life. I was being selfish I didn’t mean any of the things I said to you. I’m sorry.” She said her blue eyes filling with tears.

Jordan pulled her into him. “I’m sorry too baby. I love you never forget that.” he said placing a kiss on her temple. Leila nodded and pulled out of her father’s embrace.

“Go home and rest, I’ll see you tomorrow.” He said and Leila nodded and walked off with Chase.

Jordan watched as his kids left and sighed before stepping into Isabelle's room. He took the seat beside her bedside and watched her carefully. He leaned forward and took her small hand into his and kissed it delicately afraid it will shatter at the slightest pressure.

He closed his eyes silently praying that she would make it through. “Your love saved me once Isabelle, let mine save you. Please make it through this, you have no idea how much I need you. Just give me a sign that you’re going to be okay baby.” He said holding his breath waiting for the tiniest movement but got nothing.

He jumped when the heart monitor beeped and an alarm went off before a flat line appeared. “No, No...NO!” he yelled flying to his feet as the crash team came running through the doors.

The doctors got to work trying to get her heart to respond, shock after shocked made her body jerk but it remained lifeless. Jordan watched all the while his heart beating wildly in his chest.

The doctors looked at each other and back at Jordan. “”I’m so sorry, time of death, 3.05am.” One of them said as he put the paddles away and began unhooking Isabelle from the machine.

Jordan shook his head as he looked at his dead wife lying lifeless on the bed. “No, no nooo ISABELLEEE!!!” he cried falling to his knees helplessly.
