Chapter 15
I apologize over and over again for the delay in updates. I've had to contend with the end of the semester. Returning home and being under the weather for a while. At this time, I'm only updating this fic, because I've made the most gains with it. Hopefully, the others will be updated fairly soon.
Thanks for staying with me and I apologize again for the tardiness of the updates.

Chapter 15
The door closed with a faint snick that only seemed to reverberate throughout the room like the kickback of a gun blast. A spread of rich smelling food was laid upon the table; a feast for kings food piled high and hot.
Joe Vic sat in his spot, Quentin a seat over from Rue’s setting. “So you live here all your life?”
A moment passed before Joe Vic answered. “Yep.” It was hard not to be silent and off-putting. He didn’t like people who made Rue cry. Therefore, he didn’t like himself very much, nor did he like her brother.
Quentin stabbed at his food. “So, Rueb—Rue works in the evenin’ ?” Quentin looked over a Joe Vic, blue flashes momentarily as his ire rose. “ You just let hi-her go out all alone in this huge city? Do you ever worry that something might happen to her, I mean you are her protector--” Quentin found himself more riled up than he intended. But he couldn’t help his feelings of dislike towards the clean-shaven giant. He dropped his fork.
Joe Vic continued eating, ignoring Rue’s brother like a bothersome fly. He could feel the heat of the other man’s glare, hot enough to irritate Joe Vic like crusted over trails of sweat on a hot day. “Rue can take care of herself,” he said gruffly.
“Sure.” Quentin was not convinced. “I guess the kid I used to know, the one that was everyone’s punching bag is now some hot shot kung fu master-mistress or something, huh?” Quentin scooted to the edge of his seat.
“You don’t know anything.” Joe Vic pushed his plate away. The urge to start pounding was rising and he really didn’t want to upset Rue any further by beating the crap out of her brother, but if he didn’t mind his own business, Joe Vic would show him how he protected Rue. “Rue deals with shit everyday and the days where she doesn’t need me are the good ones…If you’d cared so much about Rue in the first place, you would have followed her here instead of just dropping her off at the bus station.”
“You don’t know anything about my brother and me! Not a god damn thing!”
“I know enough and she’s your sister, you dumb country asshole.”
“What’s wrong with you? How can you just accept this? You don’t strike me as some type of queer, but if she’s floating your boat--”
Joe Vic lunged. “You don’t know anything.” Joe Vic stood, looking down his nose at Quentin. “I like Rue as she is…I’ve learned that in this life, you don’t get a chance to meet too many good people, but when you do, you’ll do anything and everything to keep them around. Rue is …more things than I can actually find the words for. I’m happy when she’s happy and I want her to stay that way. And anything I have to do, I will do it.” He finished with just enough menace.
The two stared at each other. Chests heaving, fists tightened and hanging ready for action. These two alpha males came to a compromise, each wanting the same thing in different ways. Quentin had seen enough. His blood—his sister was safe, and most of all, happy. Joe Vic could understand that completely.
