The high school revenge

Nedia never knew how long she stayed there leaning back on the door trying to calm down, till she heard knocking behind her.

“Nedia?!! Is everything okay in there?”

His voice startled her. “Ah- yes, yes. I’m just drying my hair.” She said the first thing that came to her mind.

She heard him take a deep breath “Okay...…” He was about to add something, but he changed his mind.

Nedia stood there holding her breath till she was completely sure that he no longer stood behind the door.

She looked at herself in the mirror; she looked so pale “Okay Nedia change your clothes quickly. You can’t hide in the bathroom forever.” She ordered herself and started taking off her clothes.

After Jessy’s visit Nedia had to go see Noah. She couldn’t wait any longer; so she called Kate and asked her if she can drop Nick by to stay the night. She didn’t tell Kate about Jessy’s visit, she wanted to go to Noah quickly. Besides telling Kate what happened with Jessy would probably have taken an hour or so. That’s why she decided to drop Nick and go straight after that to see Noah. But when she stopped her car in front of his building she started having second thought. She was about to turn around and leave when suddenly a picture of Noah watching Nick sleeping in his bed two days ago came to her mind and encouraged her to go to him. She decided to do this whether it’s going to be easy or hard.

Thinking about the easy and the hard way brought her back to what she was doing.

“Oh it’s cold!” She murmured while reaching for Noah’s shirt. She held it up for a second to take a close look at it.

“Oh my…” Was all she could say. She looked at it again. “I know this….”

She thought for a moment then put it on, opened the door and walked to where Noah was sitting. He didn’t notice her at first. Nedia stood silently watching him for a while; he was sitting there on the couch with his head buried in his hands.

He looked sad and it hurt her seeing him like this.

“I love you so much” Nedia whispered. She didn’t want him to know she still loves him until he tells her everything. She won’t tell him anything about Jessy’s visit.

I’ll just wait for him to say the truth, she thought.

It seems he felt her presence because at that moment he looked up and their eyes locked.

“Hey” He said “Sit down, I turned on the heater. It will be warm in no time.”

“Thanks.” She looked down at the floor “Noah about the shirt…..is it...?”

“You remembered it??” He asked then smiled sadly.

“Yes. I….” She didn’t know what to say.

“I….. never did wear it again. Not after our date. I……sort of…. Uh I just kept it in my closet. If you don’t want it I’ll get you another one”

She sat down next to him on the couch. “No it’s fine…” She smiled then asked “So what do you do? I mean did you go to law school? You wanted to 4 years ago.” She asked trying to open the subject but not being the one who answer the questions, she wanted to ask them.

“I wanted a lot of things 4 years ago.” He smiled again but this time ironically. “You can’t have everything huh??”

“You can. You just have to try hard.”

Noah got up, took a step forward “Nedia…..” he turned and in a second he was on his knees in front of her “I swear I knew nothing about Jessy’s phone call.”

“Noah you expect me to believe you? I don\'t think you would believe me if you were in my place. Just look at it as I see it. After our date, after we made love you and after I told you I loved you. All you said was I need time to think. Back then I thought; “yeah sure this is new to him- like you said- you should give him time to think about it.”……. Noah, if you didn’t tell me that night you loved me, I wouldn’t have felt so bad. But you did!! You said you were starting to fall in love with me, you said you wanted me in your life, you said you were going to call me...” tears started running down her face. She got up, took few steps away from him and turned to continue.

“.. you can never imagine the way I felt when you didn’t call, you can never imagine the way I felt staying near the phone all day and the next day waiting for your call and at the end, instead of it I get a call from Jessy, telling me that “bottom line Noah hates you” it felt so bad Noah, you’ll never know how bad it felt.”

“I’ll never know?? Come on you left me 5 days after you said you loved me, after I told you I loved you. You don’t think I had feelings too?? You don’t think that you broke my heart when you left suddenly like that. You don’t think I felt as if someone had put a knife in my heart when I went to your house to find you gone? You were so angry because of a stupid phone call, while I was angry because of something else bigger than that…” He was going to continue but stopped and thought for a moment. “Nedia, I meant every word I said that day. I wanted you in my life. But……” he took a step towards her and stopped. He held out his hand for her.

“Come sit down. I’ll tell you everything.”

Nedia knew that touching him would probably be a very bad idea. I have to stay away from him till he clears everything out. She took one step forward then turned to sit on a chair far away from him. “I’ll sit here. You can say what you want.”

“Okay” he smiled but this time not sadly. Oh the way he looks when he smiles!!! She thought.

“I’ll start from the second I kissed you goodnight that night; let’s see, I drove my car back home I so wanted to stay alone and think….”

“Noah…” she looked at him kindly “just tell me what happened.”

“Uh- okay. I got a call from Jessy when I went home that night. She said she wanted to meet me. I tried to convince her that everything between us is over but she chose not to listen to me like always and said that I better meet her the next day.” That sad look was back he looked at Nedia like that and she wanted to go to him and hold him close but he continued. “I went there early that day, I wanted to get things over with so I can go back home and call you like I promised. But when Jessy got into my car she…..” Noah closed his eyes as if trying to remember the whole scene.

Nedia couldn’t take it anymore; seeing him like that made her heart ache. She got up and ran to him. “Don’t. Just don’t. I don’t want you to remember what happened that day Noah.” She said putting her hand on his.

“But I have to tell you the truth Nedia. You have to know what happened.” He said taking her hand in his and holding it there.

“I know everything! You don’t have to tell me what happened because I know.”

“You do??” he looked surprised.

“Yes. Jessy visited me earlier tonight and…… she sort of told me everything.” She put her other hand on his hands and pressed on them. “I know about the pregnancy, I know she lied to you, I also know that you knew nothing about the phone call.”

“But….how?? Jessy visited you?? I don’t understand.” He looked so confused.

“Well, she…. She fell in love. That’s all I can tell you.” She just couldn’t tell him about Jessy and that guy named Sam.

“She fell in love?? Yesterday, just yesterday she was willing to do anything so I can take her back.”

“Take her back??” she asked suspiciously.

“Yeah, I had to go ask her about the phone call.” He said slowly.

“What??” she stood up angrily. “You didn’t believe me?? How can you do that?”

Noah pulled her down next to him “calm down.” He said then leaned so close that his lips were an inch away from hers’. Nedia looked deeply in his eyes. “Oh Noah” she said and leaned that inch and kissed him the way she always dreamt she would. Oh this feels great, she thought.

Noah deepened the kiss but then suddenly he stopped. He held her head in his hands and looked deeply in her eyes “I’ve missed you so much.”

“I’ve missed you too….”

“Wait. I think you owe me some explanation first.”

“What explanation??” she asked trying not think about the only one left.

“You know what I’m talking about.”

“Ahh. You mean….” She felt so guilty about that issue.

“I mean Nick. Nedia how can you hide something like that from me??”

“Well, at the time I thought you lied to me so… oh you know the rest.” She didn’t want to start arguing with him again.

“I didn’t lie……..You know what? okay. But one thing I need to know. Why did you come here today? I don’t mean it in a bad way. Believe I’m so happy.” He laughed “But still I want to know why?”

“I’ll tell you why after you answer my last question.” She said seriously sitting straight back.

“What question?” He asked not laughing anymore but still smiling.

“Why didn’t you tell me about your problem with Jessy? I mean when it all happened four years ago.” That was the only thing left bothering her. Noah’s expression changed immediately.

“O….Ah- looking back at it now I know I was an idiot, but back then I was scared that you wouldn’t understand.”

“WH…..”

She was about to speak when he said “Wait just hear me out. I said at the beginning that I’m not so fond of what I did back then, but the truth is; I was scared. I didn’t know what to tell you. I thought you will leave me if I tell you the truth and I didn’t want to lie about it so I stayed in my room wondering what to do. It was really frustrating with Jessy’s conditions. I was going through hell trying to do the right thing and at the same time trying not to lose you.”

The moment she heard him say that she grinned. He was scared of losing her. She thought happily.

“Did I say something funny?” he asked grinning too.

“No, it’s just that I thought you didn’t talk to me because you didn’t care about me or that you didn’t trust me.” She said looking down at the floor.

Noah put his finger under her chin and made her look at him “I was afraid of losing you Nedia. Not trusting you?? I’d trust you with life.” He kissed her lips lightly.

“I love you Nedia, I always have.” He said simply.

Nedia couldn’t stop the tears from falling. It was tears of happiness not sadness.

“Why the tears??” he asked softly

“I love you so much Noah” she said laughing and crying at the same time.

“You mean we can forget everything about the past and start all over again??” he asked a little bit not sure.

“Past?? What past?” she asked throwing herself on him, hugging him so close that she couldn’t breathe but it didn’t matter to her.

Noah held her close for a while then started speaking again.

“Nedia will you marry me??”

She was taken back a little. Nedia backed off to look at him “Marry you??” she asked seriously. She thought for a second then smiled.

“I’ll think about it.”
