Mother

I was going to do a bit on the gods and make this quite a bit longer. But I'm very nearly late for work so I have to flee!

About twenty minutes to write this. Looks like I'm getting back into the swing of things, which is very good for me. Yay. Good for you too.

There's an oddity that's been weaving in and out of Sequel and Partners for a bit now and I'm not actually certain if its true or not which drives me mad. Which makes me realise how crazy you guys go when I do oddities and actually know what the oddities mean.

Gah. Late!

Read, Review and Enjoy!

The workers were kept in the program building. The owners were… no where in sight. It had been a front business, meaning it was thought that the owners were part of the organized crime. There was little the program could do beside search for the person and then publish the name via the newscasts. Everyone was clamouring for the source of the farm, how many more farms are there, were these numbers included in the census?

The program was more interested in why and how it had happened. Why was obvious, money. The whys the program asked were, why did the Sidhe put up with it? Why did the Sidhe not understand their own language when it was spoken to them… him? The Sidhe, those of Souse’s tribe, were buzzing over the fact that the male was dappled in hair and eye colour. The females were already jostling Souse about who could breed with him if he survived.

Clamouring over one another.

And yet none of them could explain why they were clamouring over one another. Paw had shrugged and said that women liked what was unique. Souse looked confused and tried to say something about women being crazy. Essuan had huffed at Mik and asked him why he liked Paw.

That… was not helpful.

Calling in someone from the prison system had not worked quite as well as planned. Four participants were killed before the prisoners could leave the prisons. Essuan investigated them and Souse dealt the killing blow. When Rel was pulled in, well they were all surprised.

Mik most of all when the case was explained to him by Koln. Mega-trillion ire, super genius kills ex wife and the lover she had convinced to seduce him? Either the genius wasn’t as smart as he thought, or he was framed.

As a secondary precaution, Paw watched Rel as Koln and Souse gave the young man a brief introduction to Sidhe. Paw had asked Mik why the man wasn’t guilty, hadn’t Mik said that only a man to be executed would be brought in? So Mik had explained it and Paw had grunted each time and then murmured something about having something in common with someone he knew.

That was all.

Rel’s brief success with the male was celebrated and carefully recorded. Mari found it amusing that Rel recognised something in the room that hadn’t existed a few weeks before. The funding and the ingenious of a young woman, barely fifteen years old, had brought all Norash technology to the forefront of the world. A way to get around the Sidhe bone technology, suggested off hand at a conference.

She would enjoy the royalties and live a very cushy life.

Rel’s lawyer entered, introduced himself as Rahluen and Mari had hissed at the man. Hissed. Like an angry cat. Mik was surprised her hair didn’t stand on end. Whatever Rahluen said in another language calmed Mari right down and the woman cast her eyes downward and to the side. Rahluen handed Mik the Blood bible.

“Illuva has it right in many areas, she just needs an attitude adjustment,” Rahluen murmured.

“Have you ever thought of thanking her for something she’s done for you?” Mik asked.

“And… that would be the random intelligence Koln was telling me about. It is startling, how those of no religion can look in on us and point out the obvious of that which we have missed, have you considered converting, Mik?”

“To what? Illuva? Moodswing hell. De? Chaos isn’t my thing. I’m not a healer and Rahl-ta?” Mik paused, “the only reason I would follow Rahl-ta is because he is the father of the gods. I follow Whisper. If that is not enough for the gods, then they are too vain and do not deserve prayers.”

“Odd,” Rahluen murmured, “a follower of Mother in this day and age.”

“Mother? I never said-”

“To follow Mother is to recognise that the gods are above you but that they have faults like any mortal,” Mari responded, “Illuva follows Mother closely and actively tries to reach Her.”

“It is not the same as following the throne, it is the following of your heart and your logic. A good thing to be, although. So aggravating.”

“Means the gods won’t know what to make of you.” Mari muttered.

“Oh, I think they have him exactly where they want him.”

Mik sighed and decided he had just been cut out of the conversation, “I’m going to go put this with the morning meal.”

“Morning doesn’t come for several more hours,” both Mari and Rahluen said at once.

Man and woman pinned Mik with a look. Mik pressed his lips tightly together, “then. I should be getting back to Paw.”

“Who has asked to be alone to grieve,” Mari responded quickly, “you are trying to escape a talk about religion.”

“You two are talking about the gods as if they exist!” Mik protested.

“They do,” Rahluen said in a tone that sent a shiver down Mik’s spine, “I would think, having worked so closely with Whisper, you would know that they do. Sit down. Mik. Let us educate you in the gods.”

“I don’t want to,” Mik said mournfully.

“I don’t believe the man gave you a choice,” Mari responded flatly.

Mik sighed and sat down in one of the uncomfortable chairs as Mari and Rahluen took a chair on either side of him. He was not looking forward to his next few hours of existence.
