Chapter 14
Chapter 12: Blood red sky
Seth spent two whole years hunting Zorion down before finally killing him. Three days before my 22nd birthday Seth returned home. I raced out to meet him, jumping into his arms and planting a wet and sloppy kiss on his lips. Tears of happiness streaked down my face. Seth held me in that courtyard for a while, my face buried into his chest, his chin resting on the crown of my head. I knew he was crying too. I looked up into his eyes and sure enough, wells of tears filled the corners. He smiled.
“I missed you, my mate.”
I grinned right back.
“I missed you too. You've been gone for so long, I was wondering if you'd ever come back...”
“Well I did, didn't I? Hmm... your birthdays in a couple of days, ne? I'll have to have a party for you...”
Sadly, it was never to come. The morning before my birthday we awoke to the smell of smoke. I looked out the window and gasped at what I saw. Jaeda, my home, the proud Jeitan capital, was in ruins. The sky outside was a beautiful blood red. I squinted through the smoke and saw that there were people in the sky, flying. But they sure weren't Jeitan... some had scaly green tales while others were a bright shade of purple. Upon looking closer I saw that there were two armies in that sky, one Jeitan, one composed of many other races, fighting over the fields outside of Novajita. I threw my armor on and followed Seth out the door. We ran for the fields. Our army, our proud Jeitan army, was nearly all gone by the time we got there. As we waged battle against the unknown foe I thought what have we done to deserve this?
*Don't be a fool Serpia... How many planets have you destroyed???*
Opponents came racing towards me, some in groups, others alone. I never really got a chance to look at their faces before slaughtering them. They could have been from any race, even Jeitan, but I was in full fight mode. I didn't care. Anything that stood in my way would be killed. I blasted another opponent and made my way over to Seth. He was in full glory, slaughtering one soldier after another and laughing like a maniac. Neither Seth nor I saw it coming. It was a bright blue blast. It hit him at full force and went clear through him, blood splattering the ground beneath him. I was nearly hit by the beam as I raced towards him. I caught him before he fell. I scoped out his wounds and saw that it was really bad. It had hit him in the lower chest on the right side. There was blood everywhere. I lifted his head into my lap and wiped the splattered blood from his face. I knew he was fading fast. I held back my tears, being strong for him. He looked up at me and smiled.
"Am I going to die, Serpia?"
"No, no, honey. You'll be fine. Just close your eyes and it'll be all better when you open them again."
A tear escaped me, but by the time it hit his cheek he was gone. I knew my mate, my love, my life, had left the world. I placed him gently on the ground and stood.
"I love you Seth. I'll be with you soon."
I powered up. I got into Dragon Rage stance and screamed as I unleashed the biggest ki attack ever made by any being, Jeitan or otherwise. It made the entire surface of the planet smooth as it raced around the entire planet like a bomb blast, eliminating everything within a mile of the ground. The only rough spot was where I stood and where Seth's body lay in front of me. I stared at it for a moment, knowing that our love would never, ever truly die, that long into the afterlife we would be together. Mates were for eternity.
Few soldiers were left in the sky when I looked up. The blood red sky was glistening like a ruby. Then I saw it. A small ball of energy, growing bigger by the second, directly above me. An intense surge of pure fear rushed through my body, overwhelming my senses. I knew this attack; it was one of my strongest. A death ball, with the power to annihilate the very ground I stood upon.
"NOOOOOOO!!!!! FOOL!"
I screamed as the ball of energy raced towards me. I closed my eyes as the brilliant heat seared my body. My last thought before I, along with Planet Novajita and the Jeitan race, was blasted into oblivion was "This can't be the end... not like this. Never like this."
I felt my mate's arms close around me.
