chapter fourteen
“Mat who?” she asked weakly, feeling as if the ground was moving under her feet. She reached a still shaking hand and took the picture from Shane, looking at it one more time ‘God it’s him! That’s the face,’ Thia started to feel a terrible headache and she started feeling the same way she felt when he was chasing her; scared, afraid of something she didn’t know what it was.
“Thia, Thia you okay?” Shane asked as he walked her backwards to sit down on the bed.
“Who is he Shane?” She could feel her headache grow just like the last time.
“My best friend, but why?”
“He…..he is…” Thia couldn’t take the pain growing in her head any more 'Not again, oh god not again' she thought as she passed out.
**************
“Quickly let’s go!”
“I don’t know, I don’t think that’s right. I’ll go back and talk to him.”
“No you’re not, you’ll only make it worse, and he’ll probably only pity you. Believe me Sam! You don’t want this.”
Thia heard these words over and over in her mind, but each time she’d hear these words she’d hear herself cry after it, then the words would start over again, leaving her each time with the sound of her cries. She tried more than once to remember the voices but could only recognize one of them; it was hers’. But who was the other one, she had no idea. Finally the voices stopped and as if she was watching a movie, she saw herself sitting in a car and a long dark road in front of her. As the car moved she looked back to see what was she leaving behind; she saw brightness. She turned to look beside her she saw someone sitting next to her, she wanted to ask why was she leaving the brightness behind and heading for something dark, but she couldn’t. That person too was in a dark spot. She tried to move in her seat so she could see who it was but the moment she did everything disappeared again. Leaving her with sounds once again.
“Please don’t, no please,”
“Come on Sam, why not?”
“I still love him,”
“And he doesn’t! Come on just…”
“No, you know I had to go, but you also know I love him more than anything.”
She heard the same voices, hers’ and that other mysterious voice. But she couldn’t understand. She wanted him to stop, stop what? What was happening? She ran from Shane that day and then she had a car accident. Why was she asking someone to stop? And what was he trying to convince her of?
Thia tried so hard to remember, knowing that it was the only way she’d ever get an answer to any of her questions. There was an image again, but only for a moment. She saw herself struggling against a figure, and then it moved and grabbed something from the ground. Thia couldn't do anything as she saw herself get up trying to run but the figure hit her hard on the back of her head.
Thia screamed and opened her eyes “Oh my god,” she breathed hard and sat up quickly. Looking around her she found herself alone in Shane’s room, sleeping in his bed.
She laid back in bed. She could remember everything from the dream she just had. ‘I….I don’t understand, why do I keep dreaming of someone harming me? Why did Shane’s best friend Mat’s face was in one of my dreams? Why did I dream about someone hitting me? I was hit by a car! There’s something wrong, I must ask Shane!’ she thought as she realized there were tears falling across her face ‘but why ask Shane? Maybe he is the mean one! Didn’t I read that Mat told me Shane was cheating on me? Maybe Mat was trying to help me!’ she didn’t know what to do.
“My head hurts like hell.” she whispered as she closed her eyes. She couldn’t help wanting to sleep. Moments later she was sleeping peacefully without having any dreams this time but one thing she’d decided.
She had to speak to Shane’s best friend Mat!
***************
“You mean she wasn’t hit by a car?” Ally asked Shane as he sat uncomfortably in his armchair in her room.
“Not exactly, well….” He got up, walked to the door and opened it. Looking outside, checking if any of the girls were walking by or if Thia woke up.
“How is she now?” Ally asked when Shane sat back in front of her.
“I checked up on her ten minutes ago, she’s sleeping now,” he looked at his mom and wondered from where to start “The doctors think someone tried to rape her…” he continued in spite of his mom’s gasp, gazing out of window behind his mom’s armchair “and that when she resisted, he hit her on the back of her head with a stone and left her on the ground.” Shane looked up at his mom to find her hands covering her mouth in shock.
“Oh Shane,” She couldn’t continue her words.
“I know, but mom. She left me before that, why did she leave at the first place. I just don’t understand,” he got up angrily “I mean I loved her so much, and I knew she loved me. What happened to make her go away…” he looked at his mom and she could see pain in his eyes.
“What are you thinking of Shane?” she asked knowing that the look on his face was due to something else.
“Oh mom,” his head fell down as he spoke “do you remember when I used to go out with girls that were only interested in my money?”
Ally softly sighed “yes,”
“Sometimes after Sam left, I don’t know, I…. just thought that maybe she…”
“No Shane, Sam was nothing like them and you know it.”
“I don’t know! Give me one good reason why she left. I’m starting to feel like I wasn’t good enough for her, just like the other girls; they were there for the money and only the money. I’m not saying Sam wanted me for my money…. I’m just saying that I just wasn’t good enough.”
“God is that what you think? That you were not good enough? Shane, she loved you so much I know it.” She sounded so sure that he looked straight into her eyes.
“What do you mean mom?”
“Well, I’ve never told you this before because I didn’t think it was important, I mean after she left I thought it was better not to tell you.”
“Tell me what mom?”
“When Thia went up to change her clothes, I went up after her. I wanted to talk to her alone.”
*****************
Ally knocked softly on the door and heard a voice say “Come in.” she opened it and entered the room to find Sam standing beside her bed holding her white dress “The beautiful bride, how do you feel?” Ally asked with a kind smile.
“Like I’m flying,” she span around in a circle “Oh Ally, I’m so happy.”
“I’m happy too, I know how much Shane loves you, and I know you love him too,” Ally saw a tear fall across Sam’s face “you do love him right?” she asked in concern.
“More than anything in life Ally, more than anything!”
“Then why crying?” she asked knowing that she must feel alone without her parents, especially her mother.
“I just wish my mom was here today.” She wiped the tears from her face and quickly continued “but I’m not sad, I know I’m going to be happy with Shane and despite everything I know he loves me.”
“What do you mean despite everything?” Ally asked as she didn’t understand what she was talking about.
“Nothing, see. I’m just nervous,” she smiled.
“Are you sure honey?” Ally asked seriously.
“Yes Ally, and thanks for this conversation, I needed it.” She smiled happily.
Ally smiled and leaned to hug the younger woman “I wish you all the happiness in the world. And you can consider yourself my third daughter, if you don’t mind of course.”
Sam started crying again “Oh Ally, thank you so much. You don’t know how much this means to me.”
“Okay, I’ll leave you now,” she walked to the door then turned to look at her “don’t keep him waiting”
“I won’t, not ever.”
Ally closed the door and walked to the stairs. She found Mat walking towards her “Hey Mat, how are you doing?” She asked with a smile noticing how he was walking with his face down.
“Huh? Oh hi Mrs. Wilson, I’m fine.” He said nervously.
“Oh Mat you’ll never stop calling me Mrs. Wilson, won’t you?” Ally laughed at the young man.
“Well, I….” he almost flushed.
“I’m just kidding Mat,” she laughed and walked away, she turned around and he was already up the stairs “tell her not to be late” she turned again and left the house.
**************
Shane was staring at his mom while she told him what happened that day with a strange look on his face “you mean she actually told you she loved me moments before she ran away?”
“I just told you what happened, Shane. I didn’t want to tell you before as I thought….”
“I know mom, it’s okay,” he put a hand on his mother’s shoulder “there’s just something I don’t understand,” Ally looked up at him with a question in her eyes “you said Mat was going up when you left her?”
“Yes I think so.”
“But how? I mean you two were there standing, blocking the only way out of the house. Then how come Mat couldn’t find her in her room?”
Shane wondered as he remembered the way Thia looked when she saw Mat in the picture an hour ago.

Okay, thnx, thnx, thnx for telling me what you think, well keep doing so :)
