Chapter 13- Saying Goodbye
Thank you Falcon for your ever constant reviews. And now the story moves onward... a bit more plot to reveal and a whole new fight to try and win... But if I keep talking I've just gonna give away the whole chapter! So here you go.
Chapter 13
John woke up with a tired feeling in his body. The same kind of feeling he got when he finished practicing magic. Although he knew the reasons behind this exaustion. He turned to face Jessica, who was sleeping soundly, strands of hair covering her face. John smiled at how cute and innocent she seemed to be like that. He got up and streached his body. He found they were still naked so he moved to the dresser. He opened the door and looked inside. One side seemed designed for men, the other side for a women. He picked out white shirt for himself and some sky blue pants and black boots. He also took a red traveling cloak and put it on. He heard a stirring behind him and saw Jessica rubbing her eyes.
"Good morning my sweet."
Jessica smiled. "Morning. Last night was-."
"Heavenly?" John smiled at the slight joke. Jessica smiled too and walked over to where John was. She looked through the clothing to pick out something to wear. In the end, she chose to wear a light green shirt and a darker green skirt. She too wore some black boots.
"It feels kind of strange not wearing my robes."
"You'll get used to it. It might take awhile. But now I have to go."
"Go? Where?"
John closed his eyes. "I've thought about it... About what Beras told me. And I've decided. Staying here won't help me discover anything about my family. So I've decided to leave and go back to the town my father was born in. Maybe there is a clue there."
"Then I'm coming with you."
"Are you sure?"
Jessica leaned foward and gave him a kiss. "Yes... I want to be with you, and if traveling is what you must do, then I'll travel the roads with you."
John smiled. "Thanks, that means alot to me."

A robed figure stood in a field, far from any town, far from any sign of life. His wings beat heavily as he waited, waited for someone or something. His eyes were closed as he stood just outside the shade of a nearby tree. He pushed away some blue hair out of his face and stared up into the sky.
"Do you always stare into the sky when your on earth?"
The angel turned to face his companion, another angel. He too wore a robe similar to his although his face was alot more rough and worn, for reasons unknown. His own hair was lavender in color.
"You wanted to see me?"
"She hasn't returned. And I can no longer feel her angelic presence here either."
"So you think this has something to do with the vision?"
The blue haired angel shook his head. "It is no mere coincidence, that much is certain."
"I guess. Although he seems ill prepared to take on such responsiblity."
"Even so, I-."
"He can't do it."
Both angels turned to see someone walk out into sight, although he stayed in the shadows. His black cloak covered his body, the silver clasp that held it together glowing still. His black hair hid his light brown eyes.
"What makes you say that?"
The man shook his head. "He is weak. Far too weak to take on such actions."
"Why does it concern you anyway? It is because of our... deal?"
The man seemed to shift a bit, although he regained his composure almost instantly. "I speak the truth. He cannot possibly win if the vision truely refers to him. Even with my help."
The lavender haired angel, who had stayed silent this entire time finally spoke up. "Then I assume you want to test him yourself?"
If the man showed any response to this, it was hidden well. His eyes did not sparkle with amusement, and his scarf hid any change in his facial features to give a clue to what he was thinking. The blue haired angel seemed shocked about his suggestion.
"Test him? But you know that-."
"I will gladly do so."
"No you will not! He must not know what we hope for him! We can't interfere, he must learn for himself what Fate has chosen for him."
Finally the mysterious man laughed, a rather mocking laugh. "Well, your only half right. You cannot interfere. But I am no angel, and therefore, I am not bound by the same rules that apply to you. Although there is no need to worry. I won't tell him anything. Although if I had it my way, I would have spoken to him myself long ago. He needs to know what he's getting himself into."
The man turned and seemed to vanish into the darkness. The blue haired angel turned to his companion. "Why did you allow it? If he learns the truth now, it might be too much for him to take. He might not fulfill his destiny."
"I'm not afraid. Surely everything will work out the way it must. All we need is to have faith in them. All of them."
The lavender angel vanished in a fury of feathers, leaving the blue haired angel alone. He resumed looking at the sky, and closed his eyes heavily.
"An angel will fall... and a demon will rise. One divided into two... and Destiny will cast them into Darkness. At the hour of doom a light of hope will shine... and Mankind will fall to the hands of Fate. I hope... he can do this. For everyone's sake."

Books. His pack filled mostly with books, spells and incantations. And supplies, enough to last about two weeks. John turned back to face the town he was born in, the only town he knew about. There was a whole wide world to explore, and he needed to start at his father's hometown. Beras had told him nearly 30 years ago, his father was involved in a incident. Something that connected him and Beras. He needed to find out what it was. And hopefully, he would find Beras along the way. So he could finish what he started.
Of course, journeying alone might be hard. He was glad to have Jessica along for the trip, even if only to keep him company. She stood next to him. They walked over to the graveyard where John knelt at his father's grave.
"Dad... I've decided to go off."
John spoke somewhat quietly. He reached out and touched the gravestone.
"I'm going to go and find out more about you... about us. Dad... please watch over me."
He stood and walked away from the grave, hoping that his words had indeed somehow reached his father, wherever he was.
With Jessica at his side, they walked out of the village. They followed the dirt path on to...
"Where exactly are we going again?"
"To my father's birthplace."
"And where exactly is that?"
At this John bit his lip. "Um... I'm not exactly sure..."
Jessica practically yelled at him. "Are you saying you have no idea where to go!?"
"Not that I have no idea... I know he was born across the sea to the north. So we head there first."
"This isn't exactly going to help us..."
John grimaced. He hadn't thought that it would be too difficult... surely if his father traveled from such a far away place, someone had to have seen or heard of him... hadn't they? Although it wasn't exactly the best plan he could come up with, it was a start. North would have to be the way to go if they wanted to get where they had to go. Although he had no clue as to what lay beyond the sea, or even the mountain range that was also north of the quiet village he lived in. It would be a journey straight into the unknown... although he didn't dare tell Jessica this, as she would have yelled at him in complete and utter frustration.
They continued walking, the dirt road twisting and traveling. The village had vanished from sight, and all they could see was the bright fields surrounding them. It was around noon when they stopped for lunch into the shade of a tree to relax.
"Well, at least we are making some good progress."
"I guess. I just wish we had more of a plan on what we were going to do."
"I know. You both must be idiots to be traveling these roads."
They both jumpped up in surprise at the voice. They looked around trying to find the source, but it seemed they were quite alone. Nothing was visible, but John knew better. He readied himself, in case magic would be needed. Jessica also semed to be ready, but to do what, John wasn't sure. Losing her angelic powers would mean she would be defenseless... at least that's what he thought.
"Running around without a clue, hunting a demon your ill prepared to fight... you must be asking for a death wish, right?"
The voice continued to taunt them from it's unknown location. "Where are you!? Show yourself!"
John turned around to face light brown eyes staring at him. He jumpped back immediately, and Jessica turned to see what had happened. They both faced a man who wore a black cloak and scarf, his black hair covering some of his face, which seemed to show no signs of emotion. But John could also feel it, the strangeness about this man. It was as if an aura of some kind radiated from him as they stared each other down. John felt instantly that whoever this was, he wasn't to be taken lightly.
"Look at yourself... you look absolutely pathatic, do you know that? Of course, I guess it's expected of you seeing as you have such little experience as a Destined."
John seemed perplexed. Beras too had called him a 'Destined' although he wasn't sure what it meant. "What do you mean Destined? What do I have some sort of destiny to complete?"
"Even if you did, I highly doubt you could complete it. No, you can cast magic of the four elements. It is the mark of the Destined. Very few people alive can perform such a feat. In fact Destined are so rare now, considering that it doesn't matter what kind of birth you have, magical or otherwise, I'm surprised your even one. But I guess I can't choose, so I'll leave it at that."
Jessica looked angry at him. "What exactly do you want with us? What are you planning?"
"Calm down. It's not the both of you. I'm more interested in you John. You see, I don't think you have what it takes to beat a demon like Beras. I believe you will die if you keep up this insane quest of yours."
"And just who the hell are you to say what I can and cannot do!?" Although John knew, that perhaps it wasn't wise to go about sparking anger that way. He barely registered the fact that not only did this man know his name, he knew exactly what John was planning. And if experience taught him anything, anyone he met who knew more then they should about him, was watching him, for who knows how long. And it never seemed to turn out well on his part... with the exception of Jessica.
The man smiled. Well, at least John thought he was smiling, he couldn't tell what he was feeling under that scarf. But he said with some amusement in his voice, "I am your judge. And I will decide for you, if you really have what it takes..." Suddenly his look became more serious, and he withdrew a pair of daggers from under his cloak. Then, without warning, he lunged foward in attack, daggers raised to pierce his heart.
