The moon rises
Chapter 13
The moon rises
The same nightmare I had been having as a child, kept returning to me that night. But this time it was completely different, this time it was of me as a wolf tearing apart my friends. I kept waking every two hours sobbing in fear, Jacob crawled into my bed at some point and this seemed to keep the nightmares at bay.
I am glad for my friends, but know that they must never find out what I really am. I do not wish to lose my new friends; if they found out they would turn their backs on me. I would probably be kicked out of school if anyone found out.
I awoke early the next morning, wanting to be alone for sometime, as soon as I was dressed I headed out of the lounge room to the dinning hall for breakfast. Maybe if I eat early I could find some time to be alone, tomorrow is the full moon and I just wish that my grandfather were here with me.
One of the staff walked up to me while I was eating and handed me a letter, they then turned and left, glancing down at it; I couldn’t help but wonder whom it was from. But as soon as I saw the headmistress’s seal, I knew.
I started to shake while I was opening it, in my mind I was saying (well this is it, she knows and now I will be expelled) opening the letter; I read it:
Dear Mr. Wolfkin,
This letter is to inform you that all of the staff have been informed about your condition, prier to your arrival at the school, the healer will meet you tomorrow night to escort you to the abandoned area we have arranged for your transformations.
Meet her on the east lawn at precisely 6-o clock tomorrow evening.
Sincerely,
Cisellea Whitelighter
Headmistress
Xavair school of Magic
I couldn’t believe what I just read, they knew? I guess my granddad must have sent them a message ahead of time to let them know, well this is a kick in the butt don’t you think. Well now that there was no chance of me getting kicked out, there is now just the matter of keeping my condition from my friends.
I walked alone to class that morning going over in my head what I was going to tell them, I really didn’t want to lie to my friends but in this case I had no choice. Jacob and Patrick along with Lenleia were already waiting for me when I got to the classroom, how the heck did they get here before me?
I approached them with a very confused look on my face, sighing I followed them into Transmigration. I would have to figure this out later, as I entered; I once again collided with someone.
Getting up off the floor I mumbled an apology and took my seat; well not for long because we were doing more of our mid air turns.
When class had finally ended I was glad because I was starting to get a headache from colliding with other students. Lunch and my homework were rushed then potions and my other classes.
I was just glad to get back into the dorm room, being too worried and tired I decided to skip dinner and just go to bed. Misty climbed up on my bed and curled up next to me; I closed the curtains to my bed and used a locking spell so that no one would bother me. I then used a silence spell; this is just in case I have a nightmare.
I really didn’t want to worry Jacob and Patrick, I knew that Jacob would want to comfort me, but tonight I just wasn’t up to it. So I decided just to give my friend the night off; I drifted into a peaceful rest, but unfortunately the nightmare did return and tenfold.
I woke in the middle of the night, panting and sobbing from the horrible images in the nightmare. Not being able to sleep, I slowly left my bed and went for a walk. I was surprised that the castle looked so peaceful and calm in the night. No students running to class, no crowded halls. Nothing but silence, I walk softly up to the observatory tower to think.
Climbing the stairs to the top helped to relax my mind somewhat. Once I reached the top, I stared out at the night. That moon, the one that bound me to the wolf; stared back at my shivering form. I hated the moon all my life, and tonight wasn’t any different. Tomorrow night I would become the wolf, but the strange thing is; that I was always in charge of the wolves’ actions.
I sat thinking for what could have been hours, the sun was starting to wake from its nightly slumber and I knew that I needed to be getting back soon. I said my farewell to the moon and ran back to my dorm; I managed to slip in unnoticed and back into my bed.
Waiting until I heard Jacob and Patrick waking, I then opened my bed curtains and headed into the shower room. I never told them or Lenleia about my nightmare, I couldn’t let them know what I was.
On my way down to breakfast I bumped into someone I wish I hadn’t, he was a tall skinny boy with short black hair, his name was Orion Spellbinder. He gave me a look that could kill “Watch where you’re going” he said with a scowl, I quickly apologized and sprinted down to the dinning hall to meet my friends.
Once I entered I headed straight to my dorm’s table; Lenleia stood and hugged me good morning. Breakfast was uneventful, except for the fact that Orion kept glaring at me from the dragon table.
(Oh well you can’t make friends with everyone) I left the dinning hall with Jacob, Patrick and Lenleia to head to class. Orion was in my Potions, and Spells and Counter Spells classes. He kept trying to get me back for the run-in this morning; I managed to get through classes and lunch without an incident. Dinner was rushed that night; I knew what was going to happen in just a few hours.
I excused myself early from dinner, telling my friends that I wasn’t feeling well and had to see the healer. I met her at the arranged place and she led me to a room in a part of the castle that was deserted. Once inside she locked me in and told me she would return at sunrise, I thanked her and bid her goodnight.
As I sat alone in that deserted room, I couldn’t help but feel a great wave of sadness wash over me. I would be alone this full moon; my granddad wouldn’t be here with me. I cried silently until I felt the rays of the moon wash over me, screaming in pain as the transformation started I collapsed to the floor. The pain was unbearable, bones ripping through flesh, breaking and reforming themselves into the wolf. I cried and cried, until I could bare it any longer. I blacked out during the transformation, only to wake once more as the wolf.
My body was not willing to let me stand, so I just lay there and prayed for the sun to rise.
Once the aches of the transformation wore off, I stood carefully on my feet; not really trusting my balance. Once my legs stopped wobbling I began to explore the room; it was a small room with no furniture, not really something for anyone to look at. So I sat and stared out to the window at the night below, my eyes grew heavy and my body screamed for rest.
Being that I was a wolf, I just gave in and slipped into the arms of sleep. My dreams were different that night, the wolf dreamt that he was running through the forest with his packmate, they played and wrestled until the sun came up. I awoke to the warming rays of the sun over my body, stretching I worked the cramps out of my muscles.
Once I was relaxed enough I went over picked up my robes and got dressed, I always took them off so they wouldn’t get ruined during my transformation. Yawning I sat on the floor and waited for the healer to come and collect me. Christmas was coming soon and I couldn’t wait to see my grandfather again, my friends asked why I wasn’t in the dorm that night.
I told them that I stayed in the med. wing that night and returned in the morning to the dorm, everyone began to pack for the Christmas holidays; my friends were talking about what they would be doing. But not me; my mind was else were, it was back at the cabin thinking about getting to see my grandfather again.
