James Grant

Chapter 14 – James Grant

“Where is my wife?” a voice asked in perfect English, while another, lower voice, translated in Japanese. Yuki looked up from her seat outside of Kaori’s room and gasped at the sight of Jimmy Grant, actor extraordinaire, coming down the hallway towards them, turning around the corner and looking straight at Yuki for a moment. Yuki was more surprised by the man standing behind Jimmy Grant, cloaked in heavy black even for the weather, and smiling vaguely. Nakago stood in the shadow of Jimmy, trying to pull of that it was not him, a wanted man, standing there.

“Where is my wife?” Jimmy asked of Yuki, who sat staring at him like a moron.

“Where’s Kaori?” Nakago interjected, knowing his little sister could not understand a word that Jimmy just said.

Yuki only pointed to the room across the hall and watched as both husband and brother burst in, neither realizing that both Mr. and Mrs. Oshidori stood inside by their daughter’s bedside.

Enough shouting ensued that two nurses rushed in to hush the crowd that had suddenly gathered in the room, mostly telling them that not more than two people were allowed in the room at once. This frustrated Jimmy more, since he did not speak a word of Japanese, and most of the people in that room besides Nakago and Kaori knew English, and Kaori was still unconscious.

The room quieted and Jimmy was left in the room with Mrs. Oshidori, and no translator, while Mr. Oshidori walked out of the room with his son walking behind him. Yuki cringed at the sight of the two men, who would have looked identical if not for the age difference, which seemed even wider now that Mr. Oshidori was aging swiftly due to the loss of his children. Now all of his children were in one place and he wanted nothing to do with them. Yuki even began to believe that Mr. Oshidori would have let Kaori walk out of their life if it meant that it was a new start, a new beginning, for him, his wife, and his daughter.

“Where’s Bliss?” Nakago asked automatically, wanting to see the baby girl that Kaori and he had produced.

“Do not even mention her name,” Mr. Oshidori sneered. “Bliss is at the Taiikuka household, being taken care of by someone who can raise a child.”

“Dad…”

“I am not your Dad,” Mr. Oshidori snarled, stepping away from his son. “I did not raise a murderer, a playboy, a drug dealer. I did not raise an incestuous son.”

“Dad,” Yuki hissed, standing up and trying to come between the two Oshidori men. “Dad, be quiet or the nurses will call the police.”

“Good,” Mr. Oshidori snarled, “then they can catch a criminal swiftly. How did you even get into the country without the police being notified?”

“Private jet,” Nakago said coldly. “I want no trouble from you, Mr. Oshidori. I just want to see my daughter, once, before we leave.”

Yuki’s head shot to the side to look at her big brother. “You’re leaving? You are going back to Canada?”

“We all are,” he emphasized. “James, Kaori, and I are going back to Canada. We are going to leave Bliss here, on the condition that she stays with Shai.”

“That isn’t a problem,” Mr. Oshidori snarled. “I do not want the spawn of Satan being raised in my household.”

“How does Mom feel about all of this?” Nakago asked.

“She has not been able to make a sound decision for some time,” Mr. Oshidori admitted. “So now, if you want to go see your daughter, leave now, or I will make sure the nurses call the police.”

Nakago did not even bother saying good-bye. He turned his back on his sister and father and walked away, easily leaving them behind. Yuki would like to say she wanted to cry, but she did not. Yuki knew Nakago was doing what was best for him and Kaori, though he was leaving poor Jimmy to deal with her mother, in a language he did not know. She only hoped Kaori would wake up soon… if she was going to wake up.
