“Where did Nancy go?” Amon asked. When he got back to the kitchen, Hunter was sitting on the counter eating spaghetti, alone. Amon couldn’t hear the human woman anywhere in the suite.
“She got called in to work, they needed her.” Hunter explained before taking another bite of pasta, “I told her she should tell them no, but she’s way too nice for that...” He frowned and stabbed his fork back into the mass of pasta.
“Ouch,” Amon winced sympathetically, “She does this a lot?”
“Ehh… I guess so… Often enough. They’re really understaffed where she works all the time because the manager pretty much just – imagines people slighting her all the time. So Nancy basically gets dragged in all the time for no good reason…” Amon watched Hunter stir his spaghetti around restlessly. He was guessing this happened more than “often enough”.
“Well shit, man.” Amon leaned back on the counter next to his Thrall and touched him lightly on the small of his back, “That sucks…”
“Tell me about it.” Hunter sighed a little, then looked up from his food, “Did you talk to Ben?”
“Yeah, we had words…” Amon nodded, “I’m not gonna lie and pretend we’re B-F-Fs now but we’ve… Come to an understanding.”
“Good, because… If you ever assault him again, we’re done.” Hunter said very seriously, “You’ll never see me again. Clear?”
“Crystal…” Amon let his hand linger on Hunter’s back when the human didn’t protest it, “Is dinner okay?”
“Yep, it’s good. Little soggy on the noodles, but that’s understandable…”
“Mm,” Amon watched Hunter as he started eating again. He found himself displeased with Nancy for the first time since he’d shown up. Did she not realize how unhappy she made Hunter by fucking off for some dead end shit paying job? Well. Amon supposed everyone had their own priorities… Nancy could go walk out at the drop of the hat, and Amon would hang around to pick up the pieces afterwards.
If Nancy wasn’t bright enough to try and hold on to a tasty little morsel like Hunter, he would.
Amon shuddered the second the words entered his thoughts. Shit. He’d been undead for six months and he was already falling into tacky Vampire metaphors. Still…
Amon didn’t say anything for a little while, just hovered near and listened to the quiet sounds of Hunter finishing his supper. After a time he started packing up the leftovers and wiping down the counters.
“No, don’t worry about it, I can do that.” Hunter shook his head and got down off the counter. He scraped what was left from his bowl into the garbage.
“It’s fine, Hunter.” Amon started washing out a pot.
“No, it’s already sunset I think, you don’t have to just stay cooped up and bored anymore. Besides, you cooked, I should clean.” Hunter frowned and nudged Amon away from the sink so he could clean the dish instead.
Amon stepped aside so Hunter could use the sink instead. The Vampire wiped his hands off on a dish cloth, “I don’t work tonight, you know. I hadn’t really planned on going out. Actually, I was more or less looking forward to staying in…” He made a show of leering at Hunter, running his eyes over the human’s form.
Hunter glanced back at him and laughed, “I don’t know when Nance is gonna be back, though…”
“I’m still going to need to ‘eat’ soon enough anyways… And we already established we don’t need her around to have a good time, eh?”
“That’s true.” Hunter admitted, “Yeah, I guess. I’m still doing the dishes, though.” Hunter never though he’d actually have to fight with someone to do the dishes for them. Never thought he’d want to. But as he was officially a broke, jobless leech he figured he could at least do the cleaning. Amon may have just barged in, but at least he had a job.
“Sure… Do you want to watch a movie, or something?” Amon put the rest of the left overs into the fridge and started wiping down the stove.
“Okay, I guess.” Hunter agreed. Since only he’d actually eaten, there weren’t a great many dishes to be washed and he finished them fairly quickly. He put them in the rack to dry and turned back to Amon, who was loitering around the kitchen and watching him.
“Stop staring at me like a total creep and go pick a movie.” Hunter laughed a little, not entirely joking as he went into the living room and turned on the TV. Amon walked towards the book shelf in the living room that was covered in DVDs and video games.
“Ooooo, how about Interview With the Vampire?” Amon pulled the movie from the shelf and waggled it.
Hunter looked back to give Amon a withering stare, “Not on your undead life.”
Amon laughed and put it back, “Not into Vampire movies?”
“You know, since meeting you, I find myself even more uninterested than I already was in Vampires.” Hunter walked up to the shelf and gave it a look over.
“Funny. I find now that I’m a Vampire I like them a whole lot more.” Amon resisted the urge to reach out and grab the Human and instead turned his eyes back to the shelf. “Actually I used to like to get high on my nights off and sit around and watch them for like six hours.”
Hunter peered up at him, “Vampires can get high?”
“Fuck yeah, we can. Takes a lot more than humans though, and it wears off a lot quicker. Here, okay.” Amon reached up and plucked a different movie from the shelf, “You can’t be opposed to The Godfather.”
“Are you kidding me? I can never say no.” Hunter laughed, “That’s why I bought it.” He took the movie and put it into the machine. As he went about setting it up Amon turned off all the lights. For the “movie viewing” experience, of course. A quick glance down the hall showed Ben’s light was on. Hopefully the little twit would do the smart thing and stay locked up in his bedroom like a good little human.
Amon sat down and lounged on the couch, and Hunter sat a comfortable distance away. Amon knew it was too much to hope for to expect snuggles from the human, but he was hoping that would change as the movie went along.
Hunter pulled his knees up to his chest and rested his chin down, eyes focused on the screen. The look on his face was still a little bit sad, and Amon wondered whether Hunter was even really watching the movie or not.
Amon wasn’t. He watched Hunter instead. The way his expression changed in accordance to what was going on in the movie, the way the varying lights from the screen played across his face. The way his chest moved when he breathed, the way his throat moved when he swallowed, the sound of his heart beating.
He watched for some time before he reached out without thinking and lightly touched a few strands of auburn hair. Hunter glanced up, and Amon shrugged and grinned shamelessly before tucking a few strands of hair behind Hunter’s ear. Hunter surprised Amon then, by smiling back at him instead of getting crabby and shoving him off.
Nothing was said, but in that moment where honey brown eyes smiled back at black eyes Amon thought that he sensed and understanding pass between the two of them, and leaned forward to kiss him.
But apparently it was all just wishful thinking on Amon’s part, because at that moment Hunter’s cell phone rang and vibrated in his pocket. Hunter absently pushed Amon’s hand away from him and pulled out his phone, frowning at the glowing screen. “I don’t recognize the number.”
“You gonna answer that?” Amon tried to keep the irritation out of his voice. He wasn’t sure he did a good job.
“Yeah, don’t pause the movie, I’ll be back.” Hunter unfolded himself and clicked the “accept” button on his phone. “Hello?” He greeted curiously. Amon wasn’t offended when Hunter got up and left the room to have a little privacy for his call.
He watched the movie for a little while, getting into the story when he heard a thud and the sound of retching coming from Hunter’s bedroom. Amon was up and out of the seat before he even realized he was moving. When he got to Hunter’s bedroom door, Ben emerged from his room.
“What happened?” He frowned, obviously pegging Amon as the reason for whatever problem was going on.
Stupid shit head. “I dunno, fuck off.” Amon growled and opened the door, shoving it closed behind him.

A/N: Not necessarily the best chapter in the story, but I think it definitely serves its purpose. I wrote the first half of this when I was severely hung over, if that explains it... =) Anywho, thanks for reading! Next chapter will be longer, better, faster, stronger!
@Aliases: Thank you!
@MiriuOniaya: Thank you so much, I'm glad you like it. Your feelings about the main characters are pretty much spot on for what I was going for... Though Hunter wouldn't exactly appreciate being called adorable ;)
@JtheChosen1: Thanks again for another review, I'm starting to get excited every time I see one from you, hahaha. I'm glad you're standing up for Ben... Someone has to! When you said you hoped Amon apologized to Ben of course I knew what was going to happen... Probably not the type of apology you were looking for, hey? =D Amon's a dickhead but he's sooo much fun to write, and this story would have been entirely different if he wasn't exactly the way he is. That being said, some bad shit is definitely coming Ben's way... But don't worry! He's got some very good things coming as well =) Thanks so much for reading xoxo
