Chapter Thirteen
Jamie vaguely heard Scarlet’s screaming from somewhere nearby. He felt limp yet tensed around his torso, like something tied upon him, and his feet didn’t find any ground where he could stand by. He was paralyzed, thanks to Opal’s mind control ability, and now he even couldn’t open his eyelids.
Scarlet, he thought erratically, Scarlet is in danger. He had to help him; but …how?
Jamie struggled inwardly to gain control of his own body. It was hard and exhausting, his body felt like being wrapped by tight leather bands and shackled by rigid chains. He felt numb.
But he couldn’t stop now. Scarlet needed him. He knew his vampire best friend had come to save him and he gratefully appreciated that. He fought to save him and now, somehow, he was wounded and needing his help, so he wanted to help, badly. He had to.
Jamie began to think about his family. His parents needed him. He had to go back to them, to his home. He wanted to be with his beloved ones again.
“…Scarlet…” he succeeded to let out a faint mumble. It was so hard even to voice…
“…Scarlet…”
He kept struggling.
***
Arthur wide eyed, horrified, and yelled for Scarlet when he saw the young vampire had been stabbed on his chest. That will be fatal! He thought frantically.
He watched terrifyingly as Scarlet’s body fell from such height, being pushed by Opal’s forceful thrust which deepened his wound; he shouted calling his name in fear and shock. He heard his body crashing the roof, his scream of pain and agony bursting out loud, echoing inside his ears; and second later, Navalm’s agonizing howl could be heard from the other side of the roof before she fell and went silent; Arthur saw a glimpse of her jabbing beside her bloodied lord. And after that commotion, everything went silent except for the soft wind wheezing around their ears.
GOD! IT COULDN’T BE HAPPENED! GOD… SCARLET…
“Ca—Cap’n… is, is he… dead?!” Allan stammered, still dazed in shock.
“…I—I don’t know…” Arthur whispered honestly. He was visibly trembling now, both in rage and shock.
The other members of the group were also trembling. They didn’t expect the outcome would be this …cruel. They began to feel desperate; they lowered their guns and weaponries, nearly slumped to the ground.
Arthur snapped himself back to reality. No, they had to move, they still had to save the other living victims, and Jamie. Even if they would be killed later, they still had to fight for their lives. He turned back to face his group and snapped, “STAND UP, ALL OF YOU! WE STILL HAVE JOB TO DO! We have to save the living ones as same as Jamie up there! Even if Scarlet had died, probably, we still have to move on! STAND UP, LADS!! LET’S GET TO MOVE!!”
Everyone looked at him, flabbergasted. But as they started absorbing his words, one by one, they stood up on their feet and regained their spirits again. They looked at each other and nodded.
“Right, Cap’n. We have to save those civilians. We’ve got to move.” Allan beamed, trying to be optimism.
“No, you’re not. You won’t get everywhere.” Cold, melodic voice stopped them to death.
Arthur looked up and glared. Opal stood on the cliff of ruined roof, half yanking at the hair of two women with one hand and three men with other hand. All five of them were in horrible condition; beaten up and some others bloodied on their faces or body. Otherwise, none of their wounds were looked much deadly. They were half conscious and half fainted because of Opal’s mind control. It was clear that Opal had spared their lives for his own purpose.
“The survivors!” Tyler shouted, terrified.
“What’re you gonna do with them, Opal?!” Arthur snarled.
Opal just stared at them coldly and then he looked at humans on his hands. He narrowed his eyes and let go of the others but a woman, he yanked her hair until her face was close to his; he sniffed slightly and smiled evilly. Arthur wide eyed him, horrified.
“They are purposely let alive… for his meal…” he hissed.
Everyone gaped in shock.
The silver vampire abruptly sank his fangs onto the woman’s neck and sucked off her blood. After that, he tore her neck’s sinew, spurting blood everywhere; devoured the bloodied flesh, and successfully made her died a painfully death. The rest of the team watched in horror at his ravage; not few members vomited by witnessing the scene.
Opal finished his meal, brushing the back of his hand to his blood-tainted lips to clean some messes; his jaw and front were nearly covered by his victim’s blood and remnants; and then he threw the body downward nonchalantly. The corpse landed on the ground not far away from the spot where the group stood with loud thud and suspiciously cracking sound of broken bones. Arthur growled in disgust and pity; he cursed inwardly for his inability to save the woman.
The silver vampire turned his attention towards the cowering victims beneath his person. Even though they were still dazing and in a state of half consciousness, they were seemingly aware of their predicament. They trembled, knowing their fate would not quite different from the previous woman. Opal hissed in disgust; sneering his fangs and turned his attention back at the glaring group.
“You see your own fate by looking at that woman,” he stated flatly.
“We won’t surrender and become your feast, Opal.”
“Heh, don’t bark, human! You’re ended here.” He laughed maniacally. “The youngster you gave hope for is dead now. Scarlet has died such agonizingly death.”
They gulped nervously. They began to feel fear and despair again. And those feelings wouldn’t go unnoticed by the silver vampire. He chuckled mockingly.
“You’re scared. I can feel it in your blood. Your hearts are beating faster and faster, pounding onto your ribs. Like preys which waiting for their predator.”
“You’re damned, Opal!”
The silver vampire just smirked. His smiley and eerie-cheerful attitude were back to his person. He looked downward at one of his victims who still trembling near his feet, and rudely yanked the collar of a man’s shirt. The man yelped in fear and eventually peed himself. Opal snorted in disgust and instantly slit his throat open using his sharp claw, letting his blood to spurt and out with rapid flow. He lifted the man until he barely touched the ground and drank his blood, if it wasn’t to be said, bathing with his blood; before tossed the body towards the group.
Allan screamed when the body crashed and collided with his own and fell back with the corpse collapsed over him. The now dead man’s body still jolted and jerked slightly, blood still flowing from the slit around his neck; before went rigid and deadly heavy. Tyler hastily helped his comrade to get out from the body and stand. The group went panic and Opal just laughed as if he had watched comedy.
“Human! Pathetic weaklings, you are! Hahaha!!” he kept laughing in maniac, sadistic way and his laughter echoed through the now silent and ruined casino, sending chill eeriness down everyone’s spine. Arthur’s arms got heavy with sudden fear; and tremblingly, he struggled to lift his gun and pointed it towards the still hysterical vampire.
Seeing his offence, Opal stopped laughing and staring at the captain. He grinned evilly and said, “Futile effort, Wilkins. Guns have no effect for me.”
Arthur smiled tightly. “I know that.”
“And why do you still force yourself trying to shoot me? You aren’t stupid, dumb, idiot human I’ve ever known till this time.” He snorted in giggles. “You must be flattered. I praise you; for human, you’re much worthy.”
“Why, thank you for your praise, but sorry…” Arthur grimaced darkly. “I don’t need that.”
“How arrogant, for filthy being! Arrogance is special right just for us, Symbion vampires, being the most powerful and gorgeous creatures on the planet!” Opal giggled again. “Kindda narcissist, no? But it’s true after all.”
Arthur spat in disgust. “You’re narcissist and racist. Two kinds of a one I hate from your person, beside your sexual divergence and sadistic behavioral.”
Opal chuckled. “So you knew?”
“Scarlet told me. You sick pedophilic! I swear I’ll rip you apart if you had even dared to touch Jamie!!”
Opal raised one brow and snorted. “Look who’s talking! As if you had power to do that, trash. Nah… I didn’t touch the boy. I wouldn’t lower myself to take human boy.”
“Bastard!” Arthur hissed.
Opal widened his smirk. He swayed slowly and, grabbing three other victims by their clothes, he jumped down the roof, landing gracefully to the same ground in front of the group. The victims screamed in unison when the silver vampire threw them rudely on the floor. They trembled and whimpered both in pain and fear.
“Release them, Opal! You have had enough meal, haven’t you?!”
Opal tilted his head playfully. “Nope. I’m still thirsty.”
With those words, he jerked the other woman by her hair and tore her chest apart by his bare claw, ripped her heart. Blood spurting like faucet and pooling on the floor, Opal pulled back the remnants of the heart and licked the blood trickling from the torn organ. He intentionally chewed a little for dramatizing the moment. “Mmm, tasty…” he hummed happily.
Everyone in the group yelled and groaned in disgust. Arthur snapped angrily, “You’re sick, Opal!!!”
He couldn’t take it anymore; so he decided to do something crazy.
Arthur launched himself towards the silver vampire and cocked the gun, shooting at him. The round went straight to the head, but it was futile, since Opal’s power stopped the motion fully mid air. Opal chuckled in amusement and sent back the bullet to the captain. It hit him through his left shoulder, after he hardly eluded the counterattack by swinging his limb aside. Arthur hissed feeling the stinging pain surging forcefully through his nerves.
“ARTHUR!!” Sarah yelled in horror watching her captain being wounded. She instantly raised her hand which holding her gun and aimed to Opal, releasing several rounds respectively. Opal waved his hand dismissively, making the rounds froze mid air and fell down, clinking noisily on the floor. He didn’t pay attention to the woman; she was just pathetic worthless female after all, he could kill her after Wilkins.
Opal raced himself after Arthur who was several ways in front of him, and sided him shoulder-to-shoulder in seconds, shocking him. He sneered and raised his right claw, intending to deliver final jab through his heart. Arthur quickly responded by repulsing his attack using silver knife he hid inside his jacket; he got the knife from Scarlet.
Making contact skin to skin with the silver metal, Opal growled when he felt his skin burnt painfully. He reflexively pulled back his hand and retreated, stopping his movement and stood still not far away from Arthur who also stopped and crouched; his breaths ragged heavily. The captain clutched his shoulder tightly, trying his best to stop the bleeding. He kept his eyes on his opponent who stood motionless across him, glaring intently at him.
“…Marionette.” Opal murmured distractingly when an idea suddenly popped within his mind. He turned his eyes to Sarah who stood side by side with other cops and snickered evilly. Sarah was mentally taken aback in fear, seeing his piercing stare and evilly, mischievously sneers.
Arthur noticed his look and suddenly felt tight knot within his guts. He looked in horror back and forth at Sarah and Opal, and shouted frantically, “OPAL!! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU INTENDING?!!”
Opal just smirked and stepped in slow, agonizing pace towards the group, specifically Sarah. He kept his gaze at the woman, who staring back at him somehow fearfully yet bravely. Fool woman, he thought devilishly. She just doesn’t know she has fallen to my trick.
Arthur struggled to stand still on his feet and trudged forward, gripping his knife and gun tightly in both hands. Finding new strength within his body, he started launching himself and tried to attack Opal with his knife. The silver vampire halted and caught his arm midway, successfully twisted it on his owner’s back. Arthur groaned painfully when he felt his arm snapped; Opal had his arm dislocated somehow.
Keeping his harsh and firm grip on Arthur’s twisted arm, Opal pulled him so Arthur’s back sticking with his own chest, and he whispered to his ear, “I will make yours and the others’ death as painful as hell… using this lovely woman. I can smell it; she is special, to you.”
Arthur writhed in vain within his grip as he snarled in rage and hatred, ignoring his pain. “WHAT DO YOU MEAN, YOU SON-OF-A-BITCH??!!”
He calmly retorted a single word, “Marionette.”
Arthur’s eyes widened in horror hearing the word. He knew this bastard’s ability with high level mind control, or so he called, ‘mind strings’ or puppetting. “…No…”
Opal chuckled and released him with rude motion, sending him succumbed on the floor; his previous shot injury reopened and made his blood pooling around his shoulder. Sarah screamed and instantly moved to his side; but not before she had been yanked on her wrist by the silver vampire.
“Let—let me go!!” she stuttered in fear, thrashed effortlessly within his firm grip.
Opal let go her wrist just a second before circling his fingers around her delicate neck. Sarah yelped and suddenly choked her breaths when Opal lifted her from the floor with one arm. She struggled to breathe, her feet kicking and her hands clutching the arm holding her, her nails raked the skin under her clutches, trying desperately to free herself from the claws. She began to feel nausea inside her head; her lungs burnt for oxygen. She squeaked in pain when she felt the fingers which circling her neck tightened.
“SARAH!!!” the group screamed in unison. They all raised their guns and were ready to shoot, but they held their shots with much hesitancy, fearing Sarah being misaimed.
“Hmm, such fine woman,” Opal chuckled evilly and raised his other hand to nudge Sarah’s forehead. The woman stopped thrashing and struggled; her body suddenly went limp.
“Sarah…” Arthur rasped while regaining his strength to stand up with much difficulty. He watched in horror as Opal released Sarah and the police woman slumped to the ground.
The silver vampire smirked devilishly and crouched; his lips almost touched Sarah’s earlobe. He whispered seductively, “Wake up, my beautiful marionette.”
With those words, Sarah jerked and slowly she stood, albeit wobbly. All her comrades watched in fear and worry as she regained her composure. But to their dismay, Sarah’s expression and mostly, her eyes, were blank and seeming lifeless.
“What—what’s happening to her?” Allan choked.
“I-I don’t know. I hope she’s okay…” Tyler replied warily.
Arthur trudged towards his allies. They immediately caught him before he fell again as his wounds had gotten worse and failed him. He panted and choked his own blood when he tried to explain.
“This—uh—this is bad! Uh, Sarah’s mind …has been controlled!” Arthur coughed blood. Both Allan and Tyler supported him by shoulders as their captain swayed and coughed violently.
“Controlled?! How—?!!” Allan yelled. He eyed Sarah and the silver vampire warily. Opal only chuckled as he gestured her to walk towards her previous allies.
“He—I mean—she’s coming!” Tyler stuttered.
They stood side by side as Sarah walked towards them. Her expression remained blank and lifeless, as she was now a marionette, controlled by Opal within her mind.
“…Shit, this is bad…” Arthur gasped as pain stung through his wound when he moved his arm. He glared at Opal with so much hatred and anger.
The other chortled and said, “No need to glare at me like that, Wilkins. Just stay and see your girl slaughter your team, her own comrades. She can see; she can hear; she can feel; but she can do nothing to prevent anything, include herself who will become a friends-slaughterer… soon.” He smirked.
They all gaped in horror when Sarah slowly raised her hand and pointed her gun towards them. Arthur froze, but quickly recalled his composure and shouted to his team as Sarah finally shot, “GET DOWN!”
But that was a second before one bullet jabbed through Fernandez’ forehead. That member of SWAT team fell to the ground, instantly dead.
“SHIT!! Fernandez’s down!” Tyler yelled, horrified.
The entire team was in chaos. They dropped down, before resumed to run away from Sarah, who shot them almost respectively. Johnson followed Fernandez; his heart was shot. There were only five more left; including Arthur, Allan, and Tyler.
“We’re doomed, Cap’n!” Allan barked. He was busy covering them with a sofa.
“Sarah isn’t her self now; we must awake her somehow!” Arthur hissed; his left leg was grazed on the calf. He was pallid in feature; losing so much blood by his wounds.
“How?!” Amanda Winston yelped. She and Rose Galore, who had been down beforehand; along with Sarah, were only females in the team.
Arthur panted and closed his eyes, suddenly felt dizzy. Tyler eyed him carefully and warily. “Cap’n… you lost so much blood, you have to rest.”
Arthur shook his head no. “We have mission to accomplish…”
Allan peeked from behind the sofa. “Yeah, but with Sarah on the other side, we are finished…”
“Any idea, lads?” Tyler asked incredulously.
They all went silent. Allan kept peeking for Sarah’s movement, which strangely settled down and also went silent. He peered and gasped in surprise.
“Cap’n…” he rasped, startling his comrades in tow.
“What?! What’s happening?!”
“Dunno… Sarah’s movement stops… Something’s happening with that bastard.”
They peered curiously from behind the sofa. Confirming Allan’s words, they saw Opal stilled in his spot while Sarah stood almost spiritless between them. Opal seemed like he was about in struggle within his own mind.
Suddenly Sarah fell to the floor, unconscious. Arthur and the others yelped, afraid that she was injured or something; when Opal abruptly screamed in agony. As if he was in pain…
***
Scarlet was barely conscious from his impact with the roof when he heard commotion downstairs. He heard yelling, gunshots, crashing sounds… so many noises he couldn’t comprehend at the same time. But he knew that he had to help his companion somehow; and by lying bloodied on the roof, that wasn’t definitely the right answer.
And Jamie… he had to save him; untied him and bringing him to some places safe. He had to get up; he had to fight.
Scarlet groaned when he tried to sit; and found Navalm stood erect, jabbed on the floor beside him. He pulled the nagamaki and whispered soothingly to her. The blade responded by stirring a bit; he was glad that Navalm wasn’t even scratched, somehow.
He inspected his wounds; shit, he lost too much blood; and grimaced bitterly when he found himself unable to stand and move any further. He suddenly spotted the puddle of blood on the floor not quite far from his position. He crawled heavily towards the blood and, shoving his disgusted feeling aside, he leaned down onto the puddle and began to lick the blood from the floor. The memory of persons whose blood now he licked for flooded his mind, mixing each other; he inwardly cursed Opal for his cruelty, killing those people ruthlessly, not to mention, needlessly.
He almost threw up, since the blood was no longer fresh and mixing with dirt; but he held back his chaotic gut and kept licking the blood. He felt relief when the blood he needed flowing through his vein and brought back some strength within him. His body, as vampires were able to recover almost instantly, had healed itself from the moment he fell unconscious. Still, it was a very slow recovery. He needed booster for that. He needed blood; as soon as possible.
He licked it clean, remaining almost nothing. Scarlet sighed and began to scan his vicinity. He immediately smelled blood; mostly came from persons he didn’t know, but he noticed a bit scent of Arthur’s blood. His heart beat quickened; Arthur might be injured by that son-of-a-bitch vampire!
Scarlet quickly masked his aura and looked upward. He could still see Jamie hanging limply by the rope. He stealthily leapt upstairs and carefully undid the tying around the boy. He hugged Jamie affectionately for a while; silently cried with relief that he finally had the boy saved somehow. He knew that Opal still didn’t notice his person or his previous counter attack, right before he stabbed him on the right chest…
He knew and he waited…
***
Opal trashed against his throbbing head; screaming and cursing out loud. Hell, the pain was almost unbearable! Almost! He began to think back about what was exactly happened, anything, which caused him so much pain in the first place…
He groaned painfully when he realized something.
That damn, hellish bastard, pathetic excuse of vampire!! He has counterattacked me! Shit, fucking shit! I don’t know what kind of spell he threw over me but this damnable pain… it has to stop!
Ignoring both his current pain and the humans before him, Opal leapt upward just to find that Scarlet had gone missing. He glared to the tower, only finding the hanging rope, empty from its weight and dangling limply, being cut off on the middle. He roared in sudden rage; his plan surely didn’t go well. Shit, he had done one grave mistake. He had underestimated the younger vampire.
Arthur’s head jerked upward in alert when he heard Opal’s roaring. He now crouched beside Sarah’s unconscious body; checking whether she was alright or not. He felt relieved when he could hear her pulse throbbing even so faintly inside her vein. It seemed she was fine after all. The rest of his team trailed behind him; worrying about Sarah as well.
“Cap’n… how is she?” Tyler asked almost breathlessly.
Arthur gave a heavy sigh. “She is alright; she will be recovered soon… by the way…” he trailed off while pointing his head upward, “…Do you guys figure out what was happening to him, barely?”
Allan grunted in response. “Dunno…”
“I hope, Scarlet is also recovered by now… I don’t know for sure what has happened to Opal yet; but I could figure that it was bad to him. Maybe it was his work.”
“Scarlet?”
Arthur nodded, suddenly felt smug. “Counter attack.” He only replied curtly; while his lips twitched forming some kind of smug smile.
Opal raged and, using his Ariadne, destroyed and crashed almost everything within his attack range during his painfully, suddenly tortured head. He didn’t expect Scarlet could afford to give him some mind crushing attack.
“NO! It can’t be mind crushing attack! He doesn’t have any capability for delivering such psychic attack! He is fire user! He can’t—ARRGGHH!! Dammit!! Shit! My fucking head!!” he screamed in agony as mixing of burning and stinging pain within his head was rampaging, overwhelming his sense. FUCK! By the end of this night, if he didn’t get rid of this hellish torture, he would surely get crazy!
“FUCK!! SCARLET!! I’LL KILL YOU, SON-OF-A-BITCH!!” he yelled agonizingly.
Scarlet smirked satisfied with his own work. He carried Jamie by his shoulder, hiding from the raging vampire away and edging to the slope of fallen rooftop. He peeked downward to see his comrades circling Sarah who lied unconscious on the ground. He also noticed several dead bodies around them, mostly previous members of the rescuing team. There were only six cops left, including Sarah. The others weren’t also in good condition, especially Arthur who was pallid, and seemed to lack most of his blood due to his injuries.
Scarlet could feel his heart sank a bit seeing how many casualties which had been laid out there; and his comrades’ predicament also didn’t help at all. He sighed softly, knowing that he was the one who had to make this mission finished: by killing Opal. The objective of his mission was protecting Jamie and his family; he had failed once by letting Jamie being kidnapped; and he decided that he didn’t want to fail again. He had Jamie safe now, but not entirely; not before Opal had been crushed, once and for all.
He slowly glided down to the same floor as Arthur and the others, stealthily; and walked towards them. He let them oblivious to his presence for a while and grunted purposely to gain their attention.
“Scarlet!” Allan almost yelped in surprise and joy, but quickly muffled his cry by biting his lips when he was earned a glare from the crimson haired vampire.
Arthur wide eyed him, firstly in surprise, then in joy and relief, seeing both he and Jamie were in good condition, at least. He shifted his limb with much effort to get close to the young vampire, but Scarlet admonished him gently.
“Remember your wounds, Arthur.”
The captain smirked. “I’m fine, really.”
Scarlet snorted hearing his reply. “Yeah, right.”
He gently put Jamie’s unconscious form down to the floor next to Amanda; and crouched to check on Sarah. “She will be fine soon.”
Arthur nodded heartily. “I know.”
Scarlet tilted his head upward, hearing the ruckus upstairs slowly fading. He frowned; shit, he still felt weak from his previous wound, and yet his strength didn’t come back by licking that puddle of blood. Still, Opal was able to maintain his composure over the counter attack so quickly Scarlet almost didn’t believe. Well, he is much older than me any way, he sighed. Older vampires are great in skills and strength due to their ages and experiences.
Tyler eyed him warily. “He—he has come to his sense, hasn’t he?”
Scarlet nodded curtly. “While he was attacking me earlier, I have planted some kind of fire spell inside his head. It has same function like his mind breaking attack, only lacking in hallucinating effect; it only causes very, I mean VERY, excruciating pain within your head. Believe me; I have perfected that technique during Vermillion’s practice session; he made me suffer the same pain; and I believed, previously, that no one will survive the after effect… well, until now.”
He inwardly gulped. He knew, oh really, he knew, by experiences; that Opal was stronger than him in any degree, but he still couldn’t believe that he was THIS strong that he could hold his most powerful mind breaking fire spell!
The entire team paled and they looked upward in unison when they heard crumbling sound before them. Opal stood at the slope; his angelic face contorted in pain he almost couldn’t be recognized as handsome as before. The fallen angel, Scarlet inwardly mused. The difference that he is most likely not the fallen one; he is the one who, from the first place, has already succumbed within darkness from the beginning.
Opal gritted his teeth and his fangs; fully elongated now; bared from his lip like some kind of monster. He snarled and growled in anger; his fiery gaze focused on Scarlet.
“~How dare you—?!~” he barked viciously; still seemed tortured by his painful, throbbing head.
Scarlet sneered gleefully; not able to contain his satisfaction anymore. He had been overpowered several times by the silver vampire; now he was the one who dominating him, it made him glad.
“~What’s the matter, sylph? Trouble with your little head?~” he mockingly teased him, earning a growl from the other.
Scarlet’ smirk grew wider; but still he had to be cautious. Who knew that Opal couldn’t be more dangerous than ever if he was cornered, not to mention, being hurt?
Scarlet eyed Sarah who started to stir and awake from her unconsciousness. He glanced at Arthur who now breathed heavily, fighting over his ail. He looked terrible, truly… Scarlet was worried about his comrades; afraid that they couldn’t hold on any longer within this field. He had to finish this battle, quickly.
Scarlet turned his attention to the other members. Both Allan and Tyler were fine, while Ferguson and Amanda barely stood still. He decided his resolve just now…
“Allan, Tyler, I need your blood.” Scarlet stated firmly. Both cops looked at him incredulously; then nodded. They flicked their collar open to expose their throat.
“We’re ready.” Tyler husked. Allan nodded in confirmation.
Scarlet just smiled faintly and used his sharp fingertip to slit a little at Tyler’s vein. The wound wasn’t quite wide, but it was enough to let the blood oozing out. The crimson haired vampire swiftly lapped the blood, holding the man’ shoulders to still him and for better leverage; he drank and sometimes sucked the blood almost greedily. While feeding, he didn’t let his guard off from his opponent; Opal seemed annoyed by his feeding showing off. He held the urge to smirk.
Lapping one last time to enclose the slit, he looked upward to see Opal had hopped down to the floor. He still swayed from the after effect of Scarlet’ fire spell; still Scarlet considered him less harmless by now.
Smirking, he slit Allan’s vein like he had done to Tyler’s; and then he drank the blood oozing out from the wound, while kept his eyes on the silver vampire. He wondered why the older vampire didn’t attack him while he was feeding; it was so much easier to take him down now when he was vulnerable; it wasn’t that Scarlet didn’t anticipate this option.
Finishing his feeding, Scarlet felt his strength boosting up, thanks to the blood he had received from his companions. Both cops now slumped down to the ground, panted and exhausted, even though Scarlet remembered not to drink too much from them.
The crimson haired vampire smiled gratefully at them and called his Navalm to aid him. The blade complied and flew right into his hands. He gripped her tightly and steadied for his next battle.
Opal growled in annoyance, mentally kicking himself for letting the brat recovered by feeding from his comrades. He should have stopped him for the first place; but he didn’t. Why? Opal himself didn’t know exactly; he just felt excited to battle the younger vampire again, to actually kill him by his own hands. He had failed finishing his pathetic life twice, no, three times before; and now he surely got pissed off. Opal hated failures. He adored perfection; and he wanted his mission to obliterate that pathetic excuse of vampire brat once and forever done perfectly.
He snarled while holding his Ariadne; the yari stirred in sync with his own rage. He grimaced bitterly, realizing that he lacked his strength to fully reawake Ariadne’s true form. Well, it doesn’t matter; after all, I just have to chop his head off and kill the others, including that human boy… piece of cake.
He howled while launched himself forward; directly delivering his blow towards Scarlet. He swung his yari almost frantically, but Scarlet knew exactly how deadly his swinging could be. The crimson haired vampire shoved his comrades down, flat with the ground as the yari swinging barely made contact with them. Scarlet grunted when he raised his body to make a counter attack, but he hitched his breath when Ariadne swinging again, making brief contact with his chest. His front was ripped open slightly; gladly, he thought with relief, that he wasn’t sliced to death. At least, Opal seemed losing his composure as well.
Opal whined when his strike missing his target. He began to move thoughtlessly, and less controlled; something he didn’t ever experience before and didn’t want to. Yes, he was hot-blooded warrior if he wanted to, but mostly he didn’t have to even let out a little amount of his power while fighting. He just sent his mind breaking attack to his enemies’ brain and watched in fascination when they died, writhing and screaming agonizingly in painful death.
Scarlet blew his flame up, covering his comrades with his fire wall; in the same time, blinding Opal’s vision, giving his time to mobilize the group towards nearest corner. He lifted Jamie up, and gestured the others to move as well; they immediately complied. Barely moving within few meters, he felt wheezing wind beside him, and froze when he recognized the warmth of something liquid spurting, tainting his left side.
Ferguson stopped dead, literally, when his chest was stabbed by Ariadne. His lungs were cracked open, revealing the bloodied, soft innards within; his blood spurting and splattering around. Scarlet watched terrifyingly when Opal tore the man’s body into two parts; all while he was cackling maniacally. He could heard horrified screams, cussing, and yelps from the others while they were also witnessing the man’s bloody death.
“FUCK!!” Tyler cussed. He and Allan supported Arthur who went silent, barely conscious all the time while they avoided the silver vampire’s assaults.
He immediately threw his captain’s body towards his partner, when he noticed that Opal moved dangerously close to his and Arthur’ side. Allan quickly caught Arthur’s limp body; and eyed his partner horrifyingly when he saw the silver vampire launched his yari towards his upper body.
Tyler didn’t have time to think or act when he was pulled backward; the yari barely jabbed him right in his heart; instead tugging his dog tag and snatching it off. He held his breath tightly when he looked over his shoulder that Scarlet was the one who saved him after all; he sent his silent gratitude to the young vampire. Scarlet only nodded briefly before focused on their opponent. He rudely released the black skinned cop and threw him to the ground, which explained his sharp grunt; not that Tyler complained after all; while he repulsed Opal’s assault once more using Navalm.
Scarlet grimaced when he recognized the other vampire’s ragged breath and panting; his previous fire spell had worked successfully against him. Just a little longer and he would succeed defeating this bastard completely.
Opal groaned as sudden burning pain stabbing his head. Hell, it stung; the pain was almost unbearable! Just what the hell did he send me back there?! Did he really can use mind breaking attack same like me?!
He swayed backward, clutching his head tightly. Scarlet eyed him, inwardly felt triumphantly; he almost let a smirk out to his face seeing now unsteady silver vampire.
Opal didn’t miss his faint smirk; he glared at the younger vampire angrily before attempted to launch any attack again. But before he did, he suddenly froze on the spot…
Scarlet also froze; his smirk faded. He noted a distinguishable aura behind Opal; an aura that he definitely recognized… aura of someone he didn’t want to meet, now and later…
Opal turned his eyes over his shoulder; inwardly terrified by the immense aura behind his person. He couldn’t move any single movement… his body seemed numb and lost its own control. He wide eyed the shadow forming behind him, horrified beyond belief. It couldn’t be him… no…
“My—my lord, Black Diamond…” he stuttered in fear.
The person aforementioned just smiled calmly, yet evilly cold.
