Ultimatum

Chapter Thirteen: Ultimatum

It was a Wednesday night and Leila was lying on a sofa beneath her fiancé, who was currently nipping at her bottom lip.

“So, I was thinking...” Adrian breathed between kisses. “Maybe this weekend we could go skiing in Vail, what do you think?” he asked pulling back and looking into Leila’s blue eyes.

“Oh really...?” Adrian nodded with a smile.

“Yeah, I mean, we haven’t really spent much time together over the past few weeks and you’ve been kind of down lately. So I thought I would be nice to get away from here, you know?” he said running his fingers through her hair.

Leila nodded slowly. It was true she had been in a strop the past couple weeks, what with her parents fighting, Jaiden getting arrested and her unresolved issues with Chase, this trip may be just what she needs. “Actually, I think you’re right.” She
agreed smiling up at him. “We’ll go.”

Adrian grinned, “Excellent, I’ll get right on that...” he murmured before sealing their lips together once again.
After a dizzying kiss Leila pulled away from the kiss panting. “Honey, you’re not going to get anything done if you keep that up.” Adrian chuckled.

“I know, I know, it’s just impossible to tear myself away from you. This is the first time I have seen you in weeks, I missed you, you know?” he said kissing her nose. Leila wrinkled her nose causing Adrian to laugh at her.

“I know, babe. I’ve just been so busy.” She said with a heavy sigh. “Everything has been so hectic lately.” Adrian nodded in understanding.

“I understand, honey.” He smiled brightly before adding “We’ll have all the time we want together when you become my wife.” Leila gazed into his eyes and noticed how gorgeous his eyes really were, a soft honey colour with flecks of green, and his long
lashes giving them a sexy yet adorable finish.

She blushed, “Yeah.” She said averting her eyes from his and began tracing the tattoo he had on his arm. Adrian smiled slipping his fingers under her chin and lifting her gaze to meet his. He was just about to lean in and kiss her when Leila's phone began chirping loudly.

Adrian sighed and moved back giving her room to pick up her phone from the floor. Leila flipped the phone seeing it was a message from Jaiden. ‘Emergency family meeting, get home. Now!’

“Shit, I gotta go.” She said snapping her phone shut. Adrian pulled himself off of her completely regarding her curiously.

“Why, what’s wrong?” he questioned while she began fixing up her clothes.

“Someone’s called for an emergency family meeting.” She said pulling her shoes on.

“Emergency...?” Adrian frowned.

Leila nodded. “Yeah, it usually means someone’s screwed up somewhere.” She informed him and jumped off the couch.

“Oh, I hope it’s nothing serious.” Adrian said raising himself from the sofa.

“With my family, you never know.” She said opening the door. “I see you later?” she asked looking back at her fiancé who nodded. Leila smiled giving him a kiss on the cheek before attempting to leave.

Adrian however had other plans. “Whoa, is that all I get?” he asked pulling her back to him with an arched brow.

Leila looked at him blankly before reaching up to give him a peck on the lips. “I’ll see you soon.” She said and walked out of the door.

^*^*^

Leila arrived home half an hour later. “Hello?” she called out when she walked through the front door.

“LEILA, GET IN HERE!” Jordan’s voice boomed through the house. Leila knew that tone all too well and shuddered inwardly. Someone must have messed up pretty badly this time for her father to be so vexed.

Leila made her way to the family room and found they were all glaring at her angrily. “Hey, what’s going on?” she asked looking around the room to see Jaiden’s eyes blazing with fire, while Dayne’s jaw was clenching and unclenching, his muscles throbbing dangerously.

Jordan looked livid, his usual soft brown eyes looked almost black and that terrified Leila. “What’s going on?” Jordan barked loudly causing Leila to jump startled.

“Jordan!” Isabelle hissed, “You promised you wouldn’t yell.” She said glaring at her husband. “Let her explain.”
Jordan ignored his wife his eyes zeroing on Leila. He held a magazine in his hands which were shaking with his state of anger. “Explain what?” Leila asked in confusion.

Jordan threw the magazine in his hand on the floor which fell open at her feet. “Explain why MY daughter has TOPLESS pictures of herself plastered all over MAGAZINES?” he yelled furiously.

Leila’s blue eyes widened. “What are you talking about, what topless pictures?” she questioned.
Jordan glared at her. “TAKE A LOOK!” he said pointing to the magazine at her feet.

Leila blinked and leaned over picking up the magazine. She gasped when she saw her picture on the front page. She was on her family’s yacht with Adrian, who was nuzzling her neck affectionately. He had untied her bathing suit so show wouldn’t get lines.

“Oh my god...” she said horrified tears welling up in her eyes. “I...I didn’t.” She stammered trying to get the words out.

“Jesus, Leila. How could you be so stupid?” Jordan barked shaking his head.

Leila gaped at her father. “How was I supposed to know I was being trailed?” she said wiping her tears away angrily.
“What the hell were you thinking going topless anyway?” Dayne asked this time.

Leila shook her head. “I was sun bathing, what the hell do you think?” Leila said falling into a chair her head in her hands. “I can’t believe this happening. What am I going to do?” she asked looking at her father who was pacing the room.
“Dayne and I bought all the magazines we could find within a five mile radius.” Jaiden’s said. Leila nodded.

“That’s not going to stop the whole world from seeing it, now is it?” Jordan snapped.

“Jordan calm down.” Isabelle said placing a hand on her husband’s chest in order to calm him. “Sweetie your brother’s publicists are working on fixing this as we speak.” She told Leila who nodded meekly.

“How could they possibly fix this? My reputation is ruined.” She said shaking her head sadly.

“Your reputation...?” Jaiden asked incredulously “What about ours, Leila? All fucking day we’ve been congratulated on you having such a great rack.” Jaiden spat angrily. “Do you know how many guys I had to knock out?”

Leila cringed. “I’m sorry; I was in the middle of the sea. It didn’t even occur to me that someone might have followed us.” She said rubbing her temples. “It was just me and Adrian for god sakes.”

“I don’t even want to know why you were topless in front of him.” Jordan said angrily.

“He’s my fiancé.”

“I don’t give a shit. I thought you would have more sense than that, Leila!” Jordan yelled.

“Daddy, I’m going to marry him. I think he has a right to see-“

“-Don’t you dare finish that sentence, young lady.” Jordan said menacingly.

“Daddy you’re overreacting. We were just having a little fun, you know unwind-.”

“Fun...?” Jordan spat furiously. “You think this is fun?” He asked holding up the magazine with her picture on front cover. “This is so irresponsible Leila, I expected so much better from you!”

“You think I asked for this? You think I enjoy having the paparazzi on my tail every five seconds. Well I don’t. I can’t even scratch my ass without them snapping pictures of it.”

“Well that’s the price you pay for being a name.” Jordan told her flatly.

“No dad, that’s the price I pay for you and the boys being a name. I just want to be left alone to live my life in peace.” Leila said angrily.

“You’ve never complained before.” Jordan retorted.

“Yeah, because, I didn’t want to seem ungrateful for all you’ve given us. So really if anyone’s to blame for all this, it’s you.”

Jordan frowned. “Right, so you being irresponsible and getting yourself into magazines is down to me?”

“Oh please, like you’ve never done anything irresponsible your entire life! After all that’s how I got here right, because you were being sooo responsible.”

“Leila!” Isabelle scolded her.

SMACK!!

Leila gasped when she felt the sting on her left cheek. She hadn’t even seen her father raise his hand let alone slap her. She held her throbbing cheek and looked up to meet her father’s eyes which were mixture of anger and sorrow. His lips were parted ready to apologise, he took a step toward her but Leila retreated.

Dayne, Jaiden and Isabelle all stood shocked with their mouth hanging open watching the scene before them.

Tears streamed down Leila’s cheeks before she turned on her heel and bolted out of the room. The house was so silent you could still hear Leila's footsteps echo through the house. Jaiden, Dayne and Isabelle stood silent watching Jordan stare at the spot his daughter was second ago. The hand that slapped Leila was fisted tightly. Without saying a word he walked out of the room a few seconds later shattering of glass was heard.

Isabelle flinched when she heard one of her vase’s shatter to pieces. “Boy’s, go make sure your sisters okay.” Both boys nodded and walked out of the room while Isabelle went after her husband.

Jaiden and Dayne hurriedly made their way to their sister’s bedroom. Surprisingly her door was wide open. Jaiden poked his head and frowned when he saw Leila was pulling out clothes from her closet.

“Leila...?” he called out walking into her room. Leila didn’t say anything just continued to fold her clothes. “What are you doing?” he asked watching her angrily folding her clothes.

“What does it look like?” she snapped darkly.

Dayne took a step towards her. “Leila, why don’t you calm down?” he said placing a hand on her shoulder which she shrugged off.
Dayne and Jaiden both gasped when she looked up. Her left cheek was swollen and red which was starting to bruise already. Dayne reached up and took her chin between his fingers to take closer look at her face. “You should put some ice on that; otherwise
your face will swell up like a pumpkin.” He said smiling sympathetically at her.

Leila pulled away from him. “I’ll be fine.” She mumbled before zipping up her bag.

“Where are you going?” Jaiden questioned stepping in her way.

“I need to get away for a while. I’ll either be with Chase or Adrian.” she said before sidestepping her brothers and leaving.

(Three doors down, Here by me)

Hours went by since Leila left her childhood home. Jaiden and Dayne both tried getting in touch with her but her cell was unavailable. After a few failed attempts the boys decided to call Chase.

Dayne pressed the call button on his phone and listened as it rang a few times. “Yeah..?” Chase answered on the third ring.

“Hey, Chase, it’s Dayne.” He said.

“Hey man, what’s up?”

“Not much, I need to speak to Leila.”

Chase frowned. “Okay, so why are you calling me?” he asked confused. Dayne was silent for a moment.

“What do you mean, isn’t Leila with you?” Dayne asked quickly.

“No, was she supposed to be?”

“Yeah, she’s supposed to be. If she’s not with you then where is she?” Dayne questioned. “Dude, call Adrian she might be with him.” Dayne said to Jaiden who nodded.

“What the hell is going on?” Chase asked exasperated.

“WHAT DO MEAN SHE’S NOT THERE?” Jaiden’s voice boomed from the other room a few minutes later.

“Leila left home dude.”

“What do you mean she left home, why, what happened?”

“It’s a long story, man.” Dayne sighed scratching his head.

Chase frowned. “Well, give me the cliff notes version.” He said quickly

“Okay, basically, what happened was Jaiden saw a picture of Leila topless on the front cover of MAXIM-”

“Wait what?” Chase snapped hotly. “Why the hell was she topless?”

“Dude, relax, it’s not like she posed for them. She was on our boat with that good for nothing fiancé of hers and someone snapped a shot of her without her knowledge and leaked it to the press.”

Chase suddenly felt anger bubble up inside of him at the thought of Adrian seeing her topless along with the rest of the world. When Chase remained silent Dayne continued. “Obviously after seeing that my dad was livid, they got into an argument exchanged some nasty words. Dad got pissed and slapped Leila, she was upset so she packed a bag and left. She said she was either going to Adrian or you. I assumed it would be the latter.” Dayne told him.

Chase thought deeply for a moment. If Leila was upset there are only two places she would be, either with him or at Golden Gate Park. “I think I know where she is.” He told Dayne.

“Oh, really where…?” He asked hopeful.

“I’ll call you when I find her.” Chase said and hurriedly hung up.

Dayne sighed and looked at the phone before muttering “Damn it.”

^*^*^

It was almost sun down and sat on a hill overlooking a beautiful lake was Leila. She was sitting on the grass her knees pulled to her chest watching the sun dipping lower and lower at every passing second. The scene before her was so beautiful, so peaceful she could sit there forever. The sky was growing dimmer a mixture of blue, orange and red.

She gingerly touched her left cheek and winced in pain. She still couldn’t believe her father had hit her. She couldn’t really be angry at him because deep down she knew she deserved it. She had no right talking to him in such a crude manner, however the fact that he hit her hurt more than the blow itself.

About an hour ago she had turned her phone off, because Dayne and Jaiden wouldn’t stop calling her. She needed time to think and clear her head. She told them she would be with either Chase or Adrian, but the truth was she couldn’t face to see Chase after she gave herself to him in more than a friendly way and Adrian would just ask too many questions.

Usually in a situation like this the first place she would go to was Chase. The reason for that being only he knew not to question her when she was upset, he would hold her, comfort her and wait patiently until she was ready to talk. She really
loved that man and missed him so much.

She visibly shivered as the cool evening breeze began blowing gently. She wrapped her arms around herself a little tighter in attempt to keep herself warm. She continued to watch the sunset and didn’t even flinch when someone sat beside her.
After a moment of silence she turned her head and saw Chase sitting beside her. He was staring straight ahead his lips set in a thin line. Without saying a word she rested her head on his shoulder nestling her face into the crook of his neck. Chase brought his arm up and wrapped it around her shoulder pulling her body into him.

They sat there side by side in a comfortable silence until the sun disappeared and the moon took its place illuminating the darkened sky.

Leila finally pulled back and looked at him. She hadn’t seen him since that night they slept together. He look good as per usual, his dark hair pulled back into a loose ponytail where some strands fell loose around his face. He was wearing a black wife beater with a pair of light blue ripped jeans.

“How did you know I would be here?” she asked turning her eyes and looking at the lake below.

Chase smiled, “Dayne called, told me what happened. He thought you were with me. When they called Adrian and you weren’t there either I figured you would be here, you always are when you’re upset,” he explained.

“You know me too well.” She said with a sad smile.

“I should think so, after seventeen years, it’s a given.” He said with a smirk.

“Okay, no need to be so smug about it.”

Chase chuckled, his eyes caught sight of the bruise on her cheek and he frowned. He slowly reached up and pulled her hair back to see it better. Leila tried to contain the quiver when his fingers brushed her cheek delicately. “That’s a nasty bruise.” Leila nodded her eyes stung when tears filled them once again when she remembered the look in her father’s eyes. She had never seen such disappointment in them before. And the worse part was he was disappointed in her.

She tears she tried so hard to conceal streamed down her cheeks. “Hey, hey, what’s wrong?” Chase asked turning to face her.

Leila shook her head numbly. “I’m sorry Chase.”

Chase frowned. “What for?” he asked

“For everything, god I’ve been acting like such a bitch lately. I never meant to ignore you Chase.”

“It’s okay-.”

“-No it’s not okay Chase, its not.” She said shaking her head. “Everything in my life is so screwed up right now.” She told him dejectedly.

Chase just looked at her blankly for a moment. “What do you mean?” he asked after a beat.

“Well for one thing my reputation is ruined because I was so damn careless. I’m a vast disappointment to my family, especially my father. And not forgetting the fact that we effectively destroyed seventeen years of friendship.” She said with a heavy sigh.

“Hey, look at me.” he said lifting her face so she could meet his gaze. “You are not a disappointment. This whole thing will blow over soon. Everyone’s allowed to make mistakes Leila, you’re only human. You’re father maybe angry right now but I’m certain that he never meant a word he said to you. He’s probably beating himself up for even hitting you, it just not his character. And as far as our friendship goes, there is nothing so big you and I can’t work through. You told me that remember?” he said tucking a strand of her hair delicately behind her ear.

Leila nodded in response. “We slept together Chase. Do you really believe we can get back to the way things were?” she asked dimly.

Chase looked at her thoughtfully for a moment. “A long as it’s what we both want then why not.” he said looking ahead. Leila watched him carefully.

“You mean just forget it ever happened?” she questioned and he looked back at her.

“Sure, if that’s what you want.” Leila dropped her gaze from his.

“A girl never forgets her first Chase. If you were any other guy then maybe I could have, but you….I can’t.” she said quietly. Chase felt his heart swell at her words.

“Neither can I.” he said taking her hand into his and placing a kiss in the centre of her palm. “I wish I could give you something just as special in return Lei.” He told her sincerely.

Leila looked into his eyes. “You have Chase. You gave me you and that’s more than I can ever ask for.” Chase smiled sadly.

“How did you get to be so amazing?” he asked and Leila blushed.

“Dad always said I got that trait from my Mom.” She smiled but soon frowned. She bit her lip as though she was contemplating something.

“What’s on your mind, sweets?” Chase asked and she looked at him.

“Nothing, what makes you think something’s on my mind.” She asked.

“Seventeen years Leila, I think I know when something’s bothering you.” he said giving her hand a gentle squeeze. “Come on talk to me.”

Leila kept quiet for a moment before finally speaking. “I’m going to tell Adrian about us sleeping together.” She said slowly.

Chase frowned. “Why?”

Leila looked at him blankly. “What do you mean why?” she asked. “I’m going to marry him Chase he has a right to know.”

Chase just stared at her.

Leila cleared her throat “Besides, he knew I was a virgin. So he’s going to figure it out anyway, may as well soften the blow by telling him first.” She told him and glanced down to her fingers.

“Whatever you think I best.” He said with an assuring smile. Leila nodded and sighed.

“I better go, I told him I would go there and that was hours ago so…” she trailed off and watched as nodded understanding. The duo stood up and after exchanging hugs they went their separate ways.

**

“No Dayne, I’m fine.” Leila sighed tiredly. “No I’m not coming home yet.” She frowned. “Because I just got here,” She shook her head and listened to her brother talking on the other line. “No, I’m not mad at him. I shouldn’t have said those things to him.”

Dayne coughed on the other side. “Yeah he feels terrible. Mom’s trying to talk to him but he’s just sulking. You really need to come home Leila.”

“I will, I just have something I need to take care of.” She said and jumped when she felt Adrian kiss her shoulder lightly.

“You seem down, Sis. You really haven’t been yourself lately--Jaiden piss off…” he yelled and Leila smiled when she heard her brothers bickering.

“Look Dayne, I gotta go. I’ll talk to you later, tell mom and dad I love them and I I’ll be home tomorrow.” She told them and heard day mutter an ‘okay’ before he cursed at Jaiden. She snapped her phone shut and looked at her fiancé.

“Hey baby girl what’s on your mind?” Adrian asked.

Leila licked her lips. “Um, There’s something I need to tell you.” she said quietly.

Adrian frowned when he noticed the worry in her voice. “What is it baby?”

“I uh, God this is harder than I thought.” She said pinching the bridge of her nose.

“Leila, you can talk to me what is it?”

“I slept with Chase.” She said quickly. Adrian froze looking at her with wide eyes.

“You did what?” he asked the muscles in his jaws throbbing dangerously.

“I’m sorry, I really am.” She said looking at her feet in shame.

“When?” he asked coldly.

“A few weeks ago.” She replied.

“Why?” he asked again.

“I don’t know we didn’t plan it. I was upset about Jaiden and he was there. It just happened.” She explained and Adrian nodded.

“How many times?” Leila met his eyes and inwardly shuddered, his dark brown eyes were now black.

“Just the once, I felt terrible after. I never meant to hurt you I swear.”

“You felt terrible after huh? So I didn’t enter your mind before or even during?”

Leila shook her head. “It’s not like that.”

“Then what is it like Leila. If you were upset about something you should have come to me. I’m your fiancé it’s my duty to
comfort you. It’s my shoulder you should be crying on not some guy.” He spat angrily.

“Chase is not just some guy Adrian. He’s my best friend.” She told him.

“Since when do best friends sleep together?”

“We didn’t intend on sleeping together.” She said.

“Right so you just happened to slip into bed with him. I think you’re a little more than best friends Leila.” She said moving
away from her and pacing the room.

“Adrian, I said I’m sorry. It was a mistake. A moment of weakness that’s all.”

“That’s no excuse Leila and you know it. We always get hot and heavy but you always have enough strength to stop us, why not him?”

“I was upset, I wasn’t thinking straight.” She said standing up to stand in front of him. Adrian looked into her eyes silently.

Moments passed with silence. The lovers stood still staring at each other. Do you love me?” he asked after a while.

“Yes.” Adrian nodded.

“Do you still wanna marry me?” he asked again and Leila nodded.

He licked his lips. “Okay, I’m willing to forgive you, on one condition.” He said narrowing his eyes. Leila held her breath and
nodded.

“You never see Chase again.” Leila blinked and her heart sank to the pit of her stomach.
