Questions and Answers
Author's Note:
Once again my sincere apologies for the lack of a speedy update. As
much as I enjoy writing this story, I have another one going at the
same time and sometimes I get way too caught up in one over the
other, so once again my most sincere and humble apologies! In my rush
to get this out to you in a timely fashion, I will those of you
who've reviewed more personally on the next chapter. But in the
meantime as always, your reviews are most appreciated!!!

Evan sat in
silence as his master poured the water over him, rinsing him, however
not really doing much in the way of cleansing his skin yet. He was
afraid to ask questions, questions he had, he was certain that his
master couldn't answer...questions about Joey, his past, everything.
He thought carefully for another moment of silence and then spoke up.
"Why me? Why
all of this? Have I really done something to deserve any of this?
Why can't I remember my past?" The questions poured out of him
quietly and Shinji was silent as he reached for a lightly scented bar
of soap and began rubbing it between his hands so that it was frothy.
"Because
Evan....." He started to run his now soapy hands over Evan's
back. "Because I wanted you, because you will need to know the
proper ways of acting....a new set of manner's I suppose, that are
for you in this new life.... As for your having done anything to
deserve any of this....... it doesn't really matter. It's very
similar to your past, I don't know anything really regarding it other
than I first saw you while you were acting as a waiter or server
rather at one of Tony's bars."
He paused
thoughtfully for a moment as if he were remembering the first moment
he had seen Evan. "In any case, I know nothing further of your
life before other than you worked for Tony." He picked up the
bucket and poured it back over Evan's back rinsing the soap suds off
of him. "However, I suggest that you not be concerned about your
past, but rather worry about your future instead hm?"
Evan merely
nodded. A small playful splash of water at his face startled him. "My
dear Evan, I do believe I asked a question of you....care to try your
answer again?" He looked up slightly to see his master grinning
at him out of the corner of his eye. He turned to look down but more
directly at him.
"You're right
of course Master." He paused biting his lip. When was the
kindness going to end?
"You look
like you want to ask some more questions? Ask them...As I explained,
now is the time to do so..."
"Will I ever
be able to look at you? Be able to have normal conversations with
you?"
Shinji laughed
aloud at that question. He smirked slightly. "Yes....and I do
hope so, yes, to your second question. However, there will be times
and places in which you may not....and if you forget yourself in such
moments, I'm afraid I will have to "retrain" you, so to
speak and limit those occasions."
"What exactly
is my job?" Evan stared down into the water as he asked this
question. It was only going to be a matter of time before his master
was sick of the questions. He had
to ask this question though. What else could he do? James and Curtis
said nothing of it....
"Your job....hmm...." Shinji placed the bar of soap into
his hands and reached for a bottle of shampoo. "Here do your
front" He poured a bit of the shampoo into his hand and rubbed
them together.
"Your job will be to do whatever I tell you, when I tell, and as
I tell you. You'll find that as long as those three things are done
and with respect, your job will be very easy...."
Evan ran the soap under his arms and considered what he said. His
master didn't make it sound bad at all. Yet, there seemed a lack of
detail to his words.
"Excuse me Master, but could you maybe give me examples of what
you will be having me do?"
Shinji smiled. He was so extremely pleased with Evan. He's
smart....I expected nothing less...and endearing in such a simple
innocent way....
"Examples....Basic helping around the house, keeping yourself
healthy and strong, helping me in the mornings with getting ready for
the day....and a few other things. Very basic things really. I do
hope that some of the things I will ask of you, you'll find to
be...enjoyable rather than tedious." Not as if he'll have
much choice...but I think he'll come to enjoy it.
He considered his master's words for a moment. It doesn't sound
horrible....Master James and Master Curtis had made it sound....not
like this....Never like this...May as well attempt to get things
going in a good fashion. His words tasted bitter to him as he
spoke them.
"I hope I find them to be enjoyable as well Master and that I
will be able to please you...."
Shinji smiled...."I do expect that you're right Evan and that
you will do just fine."
AN: Sorry
for the shortness in length. By the end of the weekend I should have
it another chapter ready for action, that's much longer :)
