Chapter 13

Chapter 13: Betrayal

After several months of pure and utter agony I finally got over my loss. With my father out attending a meeting on planet Chino, I was put in charge of the kingdom. A few days into my “reign” my chief mechanic came bursting through the doors of the throne room. He held an interesting little square gadget in his oil-stained hand.

“Your highness! I am sorry for interrupting your peace, but this is urgent! You really need to hear this!”

I growled in discontent.

“Fine. I'll listen.”

The elderly man clicked the silver button on the side of the device. Two deep male voices boomed out of the little box.

*Recording starts playing*

" No, Zorion, we have some morals, after all. I can't believe we tricked the guards."

"How the hell did you trick them? I thought you guys were goners for sure… I was sure you two would get caught lying."

"Heh, Zorion you know me better than that. All we had to do was take off our clothes, climb into bed and make some noise. They walked right in and were convinced we were doing it. You should have seen the look on their faces."

*Recording stops playing*

I growled deep in my throat. I knew exactly who it was on that recording, and why it was made. I rose up from my throne and walked towards the mechanic. I must have looked quite terrifying because the man slowly backed away... an intense look of fear crossing his face. I snatched the box from his hands and walked through the open double doors of my throne room. Seth was in the training chambers, several doors down, but I needed to handle this problem on my own. I turned the other way and pushed through the door and out into the sunlight of the palace courtyard. A guard immediately approached me.

“Your highness, are you alright? Do you require assistance?”

I sent him scurrying away with one of my famous death glares. I tore through the palace gates and out into the crowds of Jaeda's downtown. Although many citizens recognized me and tried to begin a conversation I would not be deterred on my quest. I simply plowed through my admiring fans. I came to an old road, situated between two dirty looking stores. It was the road that led to the foothills of the Skyda Mountains. I stopped at a house a few kilometers down that road. I didn't bother knocking; I just simply raised my hand and let a violent red beam overtake the front wall. Zorion was sitting in the kitchen, his stunned mate next to him.

“Serpia? What are you doin-”

I grabbed his throat and pulled him off the stool. A look of fear shot across his face as he felt my energy pulse through my body. He tried to speak again, but I just gripped his throat tighter, producing choking noises.

“You ignorant, two-faced, son of a bitch. How dare you?! DO NOT SPEAK! I have heard enough!”

I dropped him to the floor. He skittered across the floor towards the remnants of his counter. I shot his ass with a beam of laser ki. He let out a hideous howl and curled into the fetal position. I held up the recorder.

“Recognize this?”

He looked up and gulped. His eyes contained an intense fear. I knew he recognized it. I raised my hand up, filling it with ki. I was going to blast his ass to kingdom come.

“You, arrogant little worm, are undeserving of this, but I have decided to give you the honor of death at my hands. Now try not to bleed much, I don't want your blood dirtying my hands.”

I let the blast fly off my hands, heat searing all in its path. A bright blue ki beam knocked my blast out of the air.

“No Serpia. He is mine to destroy.”

I turned and saw my powerful mate behind me, arms crossed and cape billowing out behind him. Sadistic fury gleamed from his icy gray eyes. I growled at him, causing him to smirk.

He walked up to me and stood next to me, head cocked to one side and chin up. He grinned evilly.

“You though you'd get this honor? You will not take this away from me, Serpia.”

“Wait, Seth, would it not be better to wait to kill him? To torture him by letting him live in fear? Contemplating when we will end his miserable life?”

“Hmm. You have a point. Yes, we will wait.”

Seth spun around to exit, but I crouched down, eye to eye with Zorion.

“You, Zorion, will not be spared. Watch your back buddy, we'll come back and put a beam through it.”

I rose and stalked out of the remnants of his house.

Later, at dinner, we told Onyx of the days events. He promised not to kill Zorion, but made it clear he would play him a little visit. We allowed him to do so. That night an explosion sounded from afar. Zorion and Onyx were obviously fighting. I drifted into a deep sleep hoping Onyx didn't kill Zorion. I would come to regret my wish... it would have been much better if Zorion had been killed that night.

The next day I was yet again seated upon my throne when a dark, cloaked figure burst into the room. I had no time to rise out of my throne before the figure was upon me. The hood flew off the man and I stared right into the blue eyes of Zorion, wild with fury and passion. I screamed for my guards, but none came. For the first time in my life I was genuinely scared.

Zorion grinned at me, eyes flashing with intense hate.

“You. I hate you. How could you Serpia? After all we've been through together? No matter... I will seek my revenge. This is for my life, my world, and my FAMILY!!!”

He plowed two fingers into the pressure point behind my ear, knocking me out instantly. I am most grateful I remember none of the next few hours; it would have torn me apart.

No one knows what took place in that throne room. Seth found me several hours later, lying bleeding and broken on the ground. My clothes were nearly all gone; the few tattered shreds of bloody cloth were barely recognizable as my armor. Seth knelt beside me and lifted my head, stirring me back into consciousness. I gazed into the painfully hurt eyes of my mate and began to cry. A tear from above fell on my cheek.

“Who did this to you, Serpia? Who dared do this?”

My mind raced back to my most frequent memories. A face appeared.

“Zorion. He just came in...”

A flash of insanity flooded his face. Footsteps crossed the threshold and Onyx appeared at my mate's side, equally enraged. My mate turned his head just slightly.

“Onyx. Find Zorion. Bring him to me alive, I need to 'speak' with him.”

“ He has escaped, Seth. The guards watched him flee the city. They could not catch him; you know how fast he is. His family has been killed too, he killed them in an explosion last night when I came... there's nothing left.”

Seth pounded the floor with his fist, dark blue marble chunks sliding across the floor. He suddenly rose, turning to Onyx.

“Take my mate to the recovery chambers. I am going after him.”

I raised my hand in protest, but he grabbed it and gazed lovingly into my eyes.

“Don't worry Serpia. I'll be back soon. I'm going to hunt the bastard down. And when I find him, I am going to rip him apart.”

He kissed my bloodstained lips and rose again. He turned on foot and swept out of the throne room. I watched my mate go, knowing I would not see him again for quite a while. Onyx lifted me into his arms, and I let myself slip back into unconsciousness.

When I woke the next day I found Hydra laying in a comatose state several beds away. I rose and a nauseous pain crawled through my body. I didn't care. I dragged myself to her bedside and grabbed her hand. He did not stir and her hand was cold. A voice sounded behind me. I turned to see Onyx, leaning against the wall.

“She's dead, Serpia. She was taken by an illness... It worked quick, shutting down her organs. We took her off support this morning.”

Onyx looked strangely calm for someone who had just lost his beloved. Tears sprang to my eyes and soon the flood of cool liquid escaped down my face. My tears dripped on the floor, soaked my bedclothes, and ran across my best friend's hand. She was gone, and I hadn't even said goodbye. The doctor came in, administered a painkiller and guided me back to my bed. I settled into a peaceful sleep. I woke in time for her funeral. Onyx stood beside me as we laid her in the ground. I was out of tears , but the grief was not lessened. Onyx also didn't shed a tear, but he hadn't cried yet. I found it odd. After the funeral I was guided back to the medical wing, where I saw Onyx for the very last time. After the funeral he simply walked through the doors of the medical wing and no one saw him again. I did not care, really. He was never close to me, and I couldn't blame him for leaving. I would do the same if Seth had died. I didn't give Onyx's leaving another thought, and soon I was healed enough to return to my normal life, awaiting the return of Seth.
