Going Home

Hey, I just wanted to leave a note. I know my story isn't filled with sex and love and other things that usually go on, but eventually it will get to that, hopefully. I honestly could not tell you where this story is going, especially now that I have changed it from what i had before. When I write, I tend to just flow with where ever my imagination takes me, something bad or something good may happen, you just never know. Anyways, here is the next chapter.

Chapter 13

After being in the hospital for almost a month, Jae was finally allowed to go home. Chase and a man that they told her was her father came to get her around noon. About two weeks ago, Chase had brought her clothing to wear from her apartment. She was shocked. Obviously this guy really knew who she was, if he was about to go to her home and pick through her clothing. It was shocking.
Over the past week Jae had started therapy, not physical therapy either. They sent her to one of those weird doctors that asked her questions constantly. Asking about who she was and what she did. Jae could not remember, oh she had little snippets from before the accident. She remembered her brother coming to dinner and that Chase had been on the phone. She vaguely remembered some little kids being there too. She also remembers some blonde woman, but she could not place her anywhere in her memory. She was just a face that Jae saw now and then in her dreams.
They took her home to an apartment building, which had the front steps decorated and a hand made sign that read, “Welcome Home Jae!” She felt special, even if she had no clue as to who these people were, they obviously cared about her a great deal to make a banner and decorate for her. Jae smiled and said thank you to everyone and said that she was glad to be home, even if she was still on crutches.
Most of the cuts and bruises had healed but a few still had a yellowish color to them. She had broken her left leg, which was still in cast, but other than that she had been lucky. Well aside from the memory loss, she didn’t feel lucky either. Here she had this gorgeous man catering to her who she could not remember. She also had this loving family and she could only remember one of them. She felt terrible, she wanted to remember but it was just blank. Sometimes she wondered if everyone was just lying to her and just saying they were family so she was not alone. Although, they did look some what alike, so that eased her mind, sometimes.
Once up in her apartment, she walked around trying to see if anything came back to her. She remembered the place; she knew where her clothes were. She knew what was in her drawer next to her bed. How was it that she could remember her apartment but she could not remember the people in her life? Maybe this was a sign; maybe she was going to get her memory back.
Chase stood near the door and watched Jae hobble through her apartment, touching things and smiling softly. She was beautiful, Chase thought, definitely not for the first time. She was so strong and yet so vulnerable it was amazing. She seemed so lost but Chase knew something was going on inside of her. She knew this place, knew where the things were that meant the most to her.
“You brought the computer over here, the same day of the accident, right” Jae asked Chase as she came back by the door.
“Yes, you were starting to work for me that day and I decided you needed the best of equipment to do your work.”
“Oh, I see”
“You remember?”
“Just the place and when I saw the computer I saw you here with another man with boxes”
“Yea, that’s how the morning went, we came over and you were making breakfast.”
“Oh. . . weird isn’t it, that I can remember where I lived but I can not remember people in my life.”
“Yea, but maybe it means the rest of it will come back.”
“I want it to come now”
“Jae, it will, eventually. Give it time.” Jae’s dad told her as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
“My real name is Jordan, why does everyone call me Jae?” Jae asked curiously. Chase and her dad stared at her stunned.
“You remember,” her dad announced, “we call you Jae because you have 4 brothers; you wanted to be like the rest of the guys.”
“Oh, I don’t know if I remember, it just came to me”
“Well, maybe more will come back” Chase said.
“I have to leave,” her dad said, “I’ll b back tomorrow after work. Chase, I trust that she is going to be okay with you for the night.”
“Yes, sir, I am going to sleep on the couch, just in case she would need anything.”
“Good.” Jae’s dad said then turned to go out the door.
“Bye daddy,” Jae said. Her dad turned and looked at her for a moment, you could see tears in his eyes as he turned and walked out of the door.

Jae turned and looked at her apartment, it was a beautiful place. She wondered if she was a fun person to be around. She glanced at Chase; he said he was going to stay here on the couch for the night to make sure she was okay. He must really care about her, to stay here and watch over her. He was at the hospital every day to see her. He helped her get around when she wanted to get up. He helped her talk to the therapist. It was like he had been a part of her life for years. She thought that she might even be in love with him. Maybe she was, maybe she wasn’t. Maybe it was just the circumstances, who knew. Maybe when her memory came back it would help her figure everything out.
She glanced at Chase again, told him she was going to go up and rest. Chase asked if she needed help, she laughed and gave him a look like he was crazy. Of course, she needed help, she was on crutches. Chase helped her up the stairs then went down and came back up with a glass of juice and the pain pills from the doctor. Silently, Jae took one and lay on the bed.
