Lanto's History

I'm so disappointed in my readers lack of feed back, oh well, I cant force you to review. Well here's the next chapter.

Chapter 13

They made camp that night, a good 12 miles from the grave site. There progress was hampered by Lanton's low stamina, but Mevran never said a word against their slowness. Lanton continued to object to the elf's insistence to stop repeating that he was fine and could go a few hours more yet, but the elder was firm, they would go no further that day.

After the camp was made and food was cooking on sticks above the fire, Mevran spoke, "Lanton, talk to me these woods are not to my liking and I know your voice will help improve the atmosphere."

Lanton blushed at the elf's words unsure of what to speak of, "what do you wish me to talk of? I have not lead a very exciting life only that of a half-elf shunned by all but you and my parents."

Ah, now there was a subject Mevran was interested in. He had always wondered what it was like to be a half-blood, but even more, since meeting Lanton, he wondered what his parents were like and what they were thinking when they decided to willingly produce a half blood.

"Then tell me of your family. What were they like, why do only speak vaguely of them, and where did you live when growing up with them?" Mevran inquired.

Lanton took a deep breath. He never spoke of those things with anybody, but of course, Mevran was no longer anybody to him he was his friend, and, perhaps one day, more.

"My mother was a human named Neelam, she was sold to my grandfather as a birthday gift to his son, Gilthas an ..... he was an elf prince." Lanton paused here seeing that Mevran was in a state of shock, "Are you alright, Mevran?"

"Your father was the king's dead older brother? Holy shit. That makes you the true king!" the elf exclaimed.

"No, it doesn't, my grandfather denounced my father as his heir the day he told him he wished to marry my mother. The only reason no one knows this is because he was said to be dead long before he actually died," Lanton explained, then he continued with his history, "when my father was cast from the palace with my mother as his only companion he traveled to the north. He became a farmer and they had there first child that winter. There were three hard years that followed and my mother during that time had a set of twins."

It was no obvious to Mevran, that this was a hard subject for Lanton, so he did not press for the other siblings names, when they were not supplied.

Lanton continued to talk of his father leaving farming and joining the army under an alias and more siblings being born. Lanton in fact was the twenty-ninth child and only male. He was also the youngest since his father died just a month after he was born. He spoke of how the enemy came into his home raping his sisters and mother before killing them all. How he alone was saved because he was pushed down a well and was thought dead.

A howl broke through Lanton's life story and both froze the origin of it could've been no more then a mile away, and it was not alone.

Well that's it for tonight. By the way Neelan is Native American and means sapphire. Till the next time.
