When We Practice to Deceive

"Mayven?" called a familiar voice. The demon Thorn grinned widely. "Look at you. I wasn't aware you were promoted."

"Thorn?" Mayven turned to look at the smaller sized Entropy. "Ah, I have been this way for a little (while). You've been gone , so I am not surprised you didn't know."

"Where are you headed?" Thorn walked up beside him. "Anywhere in particular? Maybe a little fun and mischief is going to be caused?"

"Actually, I am trying to find a new pair of Entropy. They seem to have disappeared, even from my eyes and that is impressive." Mayven looked to the fiend pits and then around. "It is also very suspicious that I can not track them here, which means they are not in the Ninth Gate."

"I could help you." Thorn nodded. "We used to be associates before your little promotion. I don't see why we can't still talk now."

"True enough." Mayven growled. "They are new Entropy. One is called Lust and the other is Strife. Their reward was being promoted from the seventh level to here by our king."

"Nice reward. What did they do?"

"Saved the master's pet."

"Ohhh…" Thorn nodded. "I suppose I see why, but your actions would suggest those two aren't trust worthy."

"What demon is totally trust worthy?" Mayven smirked and looked at him. "Anyways, where were you off to?"

"Oh I was summoned by some human. Lord Zanhmere came up to take care of her. He broke the glyph she had. It freed me."

"Ah. Anything of interest happen besides that?" Mayven raised a brow. "Lord Zanhmere is always taking care of stupid humans after all."

"He gave me the human in question. I had..." He licked his lips. "Delightful fun."

"Care to regale me with a tale?"

"Certainly." Thorn grinned. "Have a seat."

He motioned to a couple of rocks. Mayven nodded and took the offered seat. Thorn sat opposite of him. Mayven couldn't help but notice that certain 'glow' about Thorn.

"I am guessing you had a very… interesting time."

"Oh, I did." Thorn sighed. He was in euphoria. "The human girls little brother came in while I was administering a bit of fun to the girl. She was crying, but you could tell she was enjoying herself. She had slut written all over her. She still does." He grinned.

"She is still alive?"

"If you want to call it that." Thorn stretched his wings out. "She still breaths air. I suppose it counts as living."

"What did you do?" Mayven leaned forward. His interest was piqued. "Details man. Now!"

"Okay!" Thorn looked at him. "Someone is a little anxious." He gave a nervous chuckle at the low snarl that Mayven emitted. "Alright, already. I put a horn rimmed Vhwyrm inside her , for one. She really got into those spikes."

"You left it there?"

"Yes, but it crawled up inside of her. When I call for it again it will come back down." Thorn smirked as he remembered the girl's screams. "I made her cook for her brother and myself. He was young and his skin tore so easily when I ripped my claws through it. His head came off without any effort."

"Oh?" Mayven was panting a little. This could be compared to men around the water cooler, telling their sexual exploits. "So you killed the boy in front of her?"

"Yes, I did. I proceeded to crush the skull, leaving just the outer skin. I made her put it on her head. You should have heard her whimper."

"I would have never thought about that one."

"Not only did I make her wear it. I made her keep it on while her family came in and saw her kneeling over her brother's body. She was holding the same bloodied knife that I used to cut into his skin and make marks. You know the usual human things like Six, Six, and Six."

"I see." Mayven smirked. "You had her blamed for the boy's death."

"More so." Thorn looked up. "I had her so mentally broke by this time that she was giggling and rocking in place like a human loon. She kept saying that a demon did it but her family didn't believe her. They carted her off to the nearest insane asylum. You should have heard the wails of her mother. I don't think I ever have been so pleasured."

"You have a flair for the unique. Maybe I should talk to Lord Zanhmere about you. He always appreciates a good mental breaking, especially from one of his elites."

"You would do that for me? You would talk to him on my behalf?"

"I would." Mayven smirked. "For a small favor in return."

"Ah! Here is that shrewd demon I thought I knew." Thorn looked at him. "Just what is it you want me to do?"

"Find, befriend, and keep an eye on Lust and Strife. You are the same type of Entropy as they. They also do not know that you know me." Mayven glanced at him. He could tell by the gleam in Thorn's eyes that he was going to say yes. "We both understand the kind of loyalty that is needed here."

"Aye." Thorn nodded. "We were always taught to be loyal to the king in our own ways. Mother always taught us well."

"She did. She also was unusual because she didn't kill you. She chose to raise us both."

"It will be done. I will locate these two and be reporting back soon. Keep your 'eyes' open." Thorn stood. "You know I won't let you down. We may be deceitful, pain loving, torturous demons but our loyalties are the same. That is to keep our Ninth gate strong. We both know Zanhmere is the reason and answer to that loyalty."

"Exactly." Mayven stood. "Now I think I will go speak to King Zanhmere."

"Until next time," Thorn said. He was gone now. It appeared that Mayven had connections in every part of these hells.

Mayven chuckled and strode off. He wanted to talk to him anyways about Lust and Strife. He didn't want to say everything he knew, but he had a few questions he needed to ask his lord. Mayven also wanted to hurry and get back to Cassandra. That retelling of Thorn's adventure made him even more antsy (antsier) than before.

"So much to do." Mayven chuckled. "And only one of me to do it." He shrugged. "Oh well. Someone has to the dirty work around here."

Mayven made his way past the pits, in which the pit fiends resided, to the large ruins of an ancient demon temple. The ground was nothing but hardened sod, lava pits, canyons and mountains. The buildings that had been built there were made of both smooth and rough faced stones. The lesser minions were made to build these long ago. Now however, they lived in the new demon city. It surrounded Lord Zanhmere's black palace.

"There it is." He looked up at the towering black palace in the distance. "Now I have to hope that he isn't too busy to see me." Mayven chuckled. "Which he could very well be, if what Cassandra told me is true."

Mayven always talked to himself. It helped him to think mostly. There was so much that he had to do down here that things could easily become jumbled. The king already had a full plate keeping the tenth, eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth gate from taking over, and he was doing a good job because all but the Thirteenth Gate feared him. The thirteenth didn't because well, that was Lucifer's lair.

"Lets see." Mayven walked along slowly. "Lust, Strife, and Thorn." He was tapping his talon against his hand. "The Creature cat. Cassandra and Missiva." He nodded. "My other 'eyes' are out watching as well."

"Sounds like you have big plans." Zanhmere spoke. He pulled himself away from a wall. "I thought I would find you at these old ruins."

"My Lord!" Maven bowed deeply. "I thought you would be at your palace. I was just coming to see you."

"I needed to talk to you, so I came and found you." Zanhmere looked at him still. "But I will let you go first. What did you wish to speak to me about?"

"Lust and Strife, my Lord." He stood tall once again. "Are you sure it was the best decision to promote them?" He kept his gaze down now. "I know it may seem like I am questioning your rule, but I am not. I am your loyal servant and it is for that reason that I ask. Those two do not seem very...loyal, Master."

"This was something I wanted to discuss anyways." Zanhmere nodded to him. "Mayven?"

"Yes, my Lord?"

"Did you ever hear of an old adage that went like this: 'Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.'?" The king chuckled and clapped his hand on Mayven's shoulder, making him stumble. "Hm?"

"I have heard that saying, my Lord Zanhmere." Mayven straightened himself again and turned to face the dark haired king. "Though I am curious still."

"Just keep doing what you're doing. It is good advice in case something ever happens to me and you should be put in my place." He smirked and looked at a very confused Mayven. "Knowledge and leverage are good allies to have, no?"

Zanhmere clapped Mayven on the back again as he walked off. He didn't let the demon general get another question in. He wanted to leave his elite captain with a little food for thought. He was not a naive king to say the least. In fact he was a very smart king.

"Am I a friend or enemy?" Mayven looked up. "I wonder."

That old king had just managed to send a new wave of respect for himself through Mayven with that little comment. It spoke of things and implanted thoughts without having to say more than those few words.

"That old codger." Mayven laughed. "This is why he is the King and why all fear him." Mayven shook his head. "Well now, looks like it is time to find Cassandra now. That story made someone wake up again."

Mayven made his way to his little stone home. He found Cassandra inside unpacking a few of her things.

Normally, demons didn't have personal stuff, but Cassandra was different. She collected little human dolls. They reminded her of her past before she came here and became a demon. Mayven grunted at his clean home. Things were put up! The bed was made. He growled as he looked around. All of his trophies were gone! His human heads, his limbs, and his eyes that were in jars!

"Cassandra?"

"Mayven!" She smiled and came out from a smaller room. "I was putting all the parts in this room and making you a trophy room." The way she smiled made the demon shake his head. "Come and see. I knew you wouldn't like them all over as they were. You just needed someone to help put them in their places."

"Their places?"

"Yes, silly. You have a huge home. It is much bigger than mine was." Cassandra held her hand to him. "Come and see."

She was the only one that could have ever gotten away with this. Mayven would have bitten heads off if anyone else would have touched his things. He reluctantly let her pull him along. That 'antsy' feeling was temporarily replaced.

"Look." She pointed to the neatly organized shelves. "See!" She smiled in that way that made his knees tremble. "Arms, Eyes, Skulls, Hair, and limbs. They were so messy earlier. It has taken me all day just to get them this neatly placed."

At this very moment in time, he was starting to reconsider his decision about making her his mate. As he gazed upon her soft baby blues however, he had to chuckle. He pulled her into a warm embrace with his wings wrapped around her. She giggled and looked up at him with her sweet angelic smile.

"I guess this isn't all bad. You didn't throw them out, at least."

"No, silly. I wouldn't do that. I just tossed the really stinky ones. You can get more!" She grinned." I know you can so it is okay."

"What!?"

"They were all black and starting to rot. It was very foul smelling. If we ever have little demon children, I didn't want them to smell that."

Her hand traced along his chest. She said children? This made Mayven blink back in surprise. Again, he forgot about his trophies. He never thought about the aspect of her wanting to have children.

"Don't look so upset. You can go get more. Just place them in jars and fluid or something so they don't stink up the house." Cassandra grinned. "You can do that for me, can't you?" She whispered it sweetly. Her finger tickled over his bare chest. "Hm, my mate?"

"You are…something else." Mayven picked her up into his arms. She gasped, smiling at him. Her arms wrapped around him as he carried her. "You remind me of someone, but I can't place who it is at the moment."

"I'm sure you will remember." She rested her cheek against his chest. Her eyes closed as she sighed. "I missed you, by the way."

"I found myself wanting to get back here as well." Mayven laid her against the bed. He leaned down over her so he could flick his tongue against her mating mark. "But I think I have something I would like to finish now."

"I think I want you to finish." She wrapped her arms around him again. "I have been waiting for you to come back so you could."

"You do not fear it anymore?"

"No." She kissed his bottom lip lightly. "Because I know you would never purposely try and wrench some sort of pain out of me just to hear me scream."

"You have more faith in me than I do." Mayven nipped her bottom lip. "I can promise you that I would not intentionally do anything though. I still have a lot of learning to do with you. You remember that I am a born Entropy right? I did not die to become a demon."

"I know." Cassandra smiled. "I also have faith that you can control the urges to hurt when you're with me."

"I try my best."

Mayven purred. A shiver shot through his body when his hips thrust forward. It made Cassandra gasp loudly, gripping her hands tightly so that her nails dug into his chest. He managed to get his pants off and lift her dress all while she was distracted and talking to him.

"It has been…a long time for me." Mayven growled in a husky voice. His hips stayed pressed against her. "Tell me when you're ready for more."

"M..M...Mayven!" She panted. Cassandra wasn't ready for the first thrust, let alone more. "I…"

"Shh." Mayven leaned down and purred comfortingly into her ear. "It is me, remember."

"I...I know." She panted. Cassandra looked up at him. "I…It hurts."

"Only for a little." He whispered. "Just for a little while longer."

"I believe you." She panted. Cassandra finally let her legs relax from around him. "Mayven?"

"Yes?"

"I really do want you now."

That was all she had to say. Her first time would be something memorable. Mayven would make sure of this. She was right about him. He may not have liked to admit it but there was more to him than he first perceived himself to be. It just took a little demon woman named Cassandra to give him that swift kick in his two point tailed bottom to get things going.
