Epilogue

Epilogue

The vampires who had followed Menumorout were nearly all destroyed, leaving behind the younger, more idealistic generation of vamps. The generation who thought Hide was “cool” and revered his defeat of Menumorout as the definitive turning point in vampire evolution. Using Hide’s formula, they assimilated more fully into the human populace, melding into everyday life, just as Hide had wished. It had been a round-a-bout journey, but in the end it was even more than his dream-come-true. Not only had he regained the best parts of his humanity, but he had allowed other vampires the same option.

Though he continued to meet with his core group of vampires, Hide withdrew from the everyday matters, allowing the vampires the freedom to live as they wished, as long as they stayed within his guidelines and those set forth by society in general. Any other orders from the master vampire were far and few, usually concerning an outcropping of dissidents that would be quelled long before any REAL damage could be done.

The scroll predicting his appearance would remain lost among the multitudes of ancient artifacts at Beijing University for a very, VERY long time. Sadly, that also meant that no one would ever learn the whole story behind the mon hanging from Chieko’s living room wall.

As for Hide and Taki… well, let’s just say that life was looking good for the young “master” and his companion. Taki was busy with his work and when he wasn’t doing that, he could usually be found within arm’s length of Hide. The peaceful balance that they’d finally achieved was a welcome change to their lives and they were taking full advantage of it. After all… less time spent running and fighting meant more time to spend together… alone.

‘Nuff said.
