Seared

What followed next was a bit of a blur.

Aerin had entered, this she knew. He was accompanied by two of the biggest guards she had ever laid eyes on since her arrival at the manor. One looked especially gruesome, his face twisted into some sort of sneer, one eye a solid milky white. There was a pale pink scar that ran across it, leading Kyra to the conclusion that he had lost his sight in that particular optic. However, it didn\'t really seem to make a difference, he was just as fierce if not more so because of it. With his hulking build and wild gaze she could have imagined the man donning a pair of stockings or a frilly hat and still feel just as terrified.

His accomplice was a slightly smaller man, although equally muscular. His hands were balled into fists, no emotion displayed upon the stoic features he held. He wasn\'t quite as frightening as the other, although her true fears did not lie in the faces of those two guards. They were in the form of the third man. Aerin.

He stood ahead of them, completely still. He was watching her, although the emotion in his eyes shattered whatever facade of cool he was trying to maintain. They were practically bulging in his fury, raw and wild.

\"I made a mistake with you,\" he began softly and suddenly, taking a step forwards. The abrupt sound of his voice made her breath hitch in her throat. \"I was too easy. I let you rebel against me without little more than a brief punishment. Too brief, obviously. I needed to leave you with a memory, something to look back on when any more addled thoughts dared to enter that pretty little head of yours. Any thoughts of defiance. I needed to scar you with a memory...\"

Kyra couldn\'t move. Her limbs felt like stone and her breath came out in shallow puffs, chest moving rapidly. Her pulse pounded in her ears and her heart felt as though it would break right through her rib cage. She licked her dry lips, wanting to speak. She even, for a fleeting and vulnerable moment, wanted to apologize. She wanted to explain how horrible she had acted and how she was terribly sorry for it. Or maybe just sorry for getting caught.

Aerin took another smooth step in advance, enveloping her in his cold glare. The temperature of the room seemed to drop drastically and left the cat demon shivering in it\'s wake.

\"I should have done this on your first day. I underestimated you. Never again, Kyra...

Never. Again.\"

It was only then that she realized she had backed herself into a corner. The wall was warm against her skin and it felt strange. She stumbled to get up, fingers taut as they scraped across the carpet, pushing hastily.

He was upon her too fast. It all came too fast.

She heard the dull shuffle of the guards behind her, a hiss, and then saw his grin above her. He was laughing now.

\"This will hurt...\" He informed her with a wink. Then he had pushed open her legs and pressed something rough and scraping against the skin of her inner thigh.

The pain did not come right away. It took a few moments before it hit, and it hit hard. The sensations were white hot, surging through her bones, blinding her with their intensity. She screamed so much that her throat was terribly hoarse afterwards, the branding iron finally gone but the agony still throbbing fresh and hot on her skin.

Aerin pulled away then, twirling the long rod of iron, it\'s end shaped into some sort of symbol, glowing red in the shadow. It was reflected in his eyes and gave them an eerie look, although Kyra was paying no heed.

She writhed, sobbing brokenly upon the floor as she finally managed to open her eyes. They sought out the source of her pain instantly; an angry wound on her inner thigh. She looked more closely. It was a heart with a flourished A emblazoned in it\'s center. It was on her skin. It was scarred there. It was a brand.

She cried out at the realization, reaching out as if to touch the marred flesh before drawing her hand back again in disgust. She stared at it. \"How could you...\" she breathed, voice trembling. Her eyes glittered with tears and hate.

Aerin merely smirked at her soft spoken words, dismissing the guards with a wave of his hand. He passed off the branding iron as well. Carefully, he crouched down, tilting his head as he eyed the same spot she was glaring at.

\"It\'s beautiful, isn\'t it? I mark all of my belongings with the very same symbol. The A stands for Aerin, of course. Now everyone will know you are mine...I can\'t go on having a slave without some sort of identifying mark. It would be like allowing a pet to roam free without a collar. Or, I suppose not free. Just roaming.\"

He chuckled at this, eyes darkening. \"It would be careless of me, and I am anything if not careless.\"

Author\'s Note: Short and sweet. I know, I know. I suck. Get used to it, \'cause my muse only stays with me for small intervals of time. Like this one. It\'d be either no update for months and months, or some short updates earlier than that. I voted for the latter, so here we are. XDD Anyways, R&R if you please. <3 I would love you all that much more for it. It\'s encouraging!
