chapter 13
Lunch had been excelent. I had eaten quite a bit, thought not as much as Liana and Liam had eaten. By the time we were through, I was ready for a nap.
Liana walked us to our room, kneeling in front of me as we reached the door. I took her offered neck, letting my hand drop a second later. \"You are my queen. I will serve you and only you, my lady.\"
I nodded. \"Thank you.\"
Liana stood, taking my hand to kiss my knuckles. \"I\'m just down the hall, if you want anything. First door on the left hand corridor.\" And with that, she let my hand go and walked away.
Mourn was lying in bed when we came in. I smiled widely at him before climbing into the massive bed, curling up next to him. Mourn kissed the top of my head as he wrapped his arms around me. Liam crawled into bed on my other side, spooning me. I yawned once and fell alseep right away.
I was dreaming; I knew this, and yet I didn\'t want to wake up. I was sitting on a stone throne, and in front of me at the bottom of the dais. I was dressed in a white dress that was fastened at the shoulders, and no where else, falling around me like a frothing waterfall. Millions of creatures started at me, examining me, even as I watched them. Some were in dragon form, some in human form, and the rest were, well, monsters. A struggling human was brought to the altar, the monsters forcing her to kneel. She was crying and screaming, but I didn\'t care. She had found out about us, and she needed to be punished. She was a reporter, and was planning to tell the world about us. I nodded, once, and they lifted her, chaining her to the altar. Two dragons, in half form, walked up to her. They were dressed as I was, in two pieces of cloth held together at the shoulders. One bore a staff, the other a dagger easily tize ize of my forearm. They both bowed to me before facing the crowd.
\"This human has found out about us. She must be punished, just as the dark goddess has told us. No one must know.\" The one with the staff banged it against the stone once, twice, three times. The one with the dagger moved to the woman\'s side, raising the dagger abover her.
\"And we take her womb, so she may procreate no more.\" The one with the dagger struck down, piercing her. The woman screamed. The dragon twisted the dagger and sliced up, reaching into the cavity and pulled out her womb. He tossed it into a basket.
\"And we take her tongue, so she can spread no truth, no lie, that can harm us.\" The dragon with the dagger pried her mouth open with the help of another and cut out her tongue, tossing it into the basket with the womb.
\"And we take her eyes, so she can not see us for what we truly are.\" The dragon with the dagger moved up, carving out her eyes to toss them into the basket as well.
\"And now we take her heart, her life, so that she may no longer harm us.\" The dragon carved out her heart and tossed it into the basket.
They unchained her body and beckoned forth Liam, Mourn, Gabriel and my daughter, handing each a dagger. They proceded to carve her up and eat her. One dragon brought the basket of organs to me, kneeling once he hit the top of the dais. \"Feast, my lady, and gain the strength of your enemy.\"
I dipped my fingers into the bloody mess, selecting an eye. I looked at the bloody orb, marveling at the color of the iris. My tongue flicked out, tasting the air, and I ate it, chewing and swallowing.
I snapped awake, breathing hard. I could still taste the eye, liquidy and chewy, warm. I shuddered and lay back down, curling up into a ball. Mourn and Liam woke up as I did so.
\"What happened, Angela?\" Mourn stroked my hair as he asked.
\"I dreamt.\" I told them everything that happened, down to me eating the eyeball. They were both silent for a moment.
\"That\'s what they do to human\'s that find out about us.\" Liam stroked my hair as well, comforting me. \"It\'s okay, Angela.\"
\"I don\'t want to eat anybody.\" It sounded pathetic even to my ears.
\"Most humans don\'t find out about us. They live blissfully unaware that we exist. Nothing like that has happened for a long time.\"
\"But my daughter was there.\" I hesitated. Something that Mourn knew that Liam didn\'t was that when I dreamt things like that, they tended to come true.
Mourn kissed my forehead. \"How old was your daughter?\"
I thought about that. \"About eighteen, nineteen years old, I think.\"
\"Then you don\'t have to worry about it just yet.\"
I thought that over. Really thought about it. \"Yeah, I guess you\'re right.\" I smiled and relaxed my body. \"She was pretty. Tall, with long red hair and curves in all the right places. And she looked like me, but with green eyes.\" I relaxed even more. \"I guess by the time that happens, I won\'t care what I eat, huh?\"
I was fully relaxed in both my men\'s arms when someone knocked on the door. I looked at them both, puzzled, before peering at the alarm clock. It was nine in the morning.
\"We slept all afternoon and night?\"
Mourn looked over his shoulder at the clock. \"It appears so.\"
\"Hmm. That must be Micheal, then.\" I didn\'t want to move, partly because I was comfortable, and partly because I didn\'t want to meet Micheal. I was sure he wa nice, but I had had my fill of strangers. I didn\'t want to meet another person.
Liam must have sensed my thoughts, because he stood up kissing me. \"I get get it. Don\'t worry, Angela. It won\'t be terrible.\"
