“Where’s your cousin?” Frank looked around, only seeing his friends.

“Over there,” pointed Menno. “He’s sitting next to the grill. It amazes me, really; ever since he moved abroad, he eats nothing but green salads.”

Frank saw him when he stepped aside. “Looks like he’s eating meat now… And he’s having beer. From the bottle.”

“No water? Gosh…” Leaning against Frank, Menno observed his cousin. “For someone who couldn’t wait to see me, he’s quite occupied with someone else,” he remark with a smirk.

“Norm,” nodded Frank. “Seems my big friend doesn’t mind the attention, either. See the way he moves his hands? The way he pumped up his muscles? He’s showing off…”

“I thought he was straight?”

“Yeah, so did I. But then again, people thought I was straight too. I don’t know, Menno… maybe all people are a bit gay?”

“Oh please.” Menno laughed. “You don’t really believe that, do you? Tell me; when was the last time you saw Norm with a woman?”

“Hm…” Frank had to think hard. “He lived with a girl some years ago… It only took six months, if I remember correctly. In total, I mean. I don’t really know, Menno. We’re friends and blood brothers, but we don’t talk about things like that. I mean truly talking, about love and desires.”

“Men,” Menno sighed. “I’m really glad I didn’t have to play ‘normal’ as long as you. It must be terrible! Anyway, I’m going to see my cousin. See if you can drag away your big man, okay?”

Pulling the two apart was more difficult than expected. Mihangel was comfortable in his chair, and Norm seemed to enjoy his company. Mercilessly, Frank dragged his friend with him, away from the grill. “They’ve eaten enough, now. Come on, Norm; mingle…!”

“I don’t want to mingle, do I,” sputtered the big man. “I’ve seen all of you before, didn’t I?”

“It was your idea to have this picnic, to get to know my Menno. You’ve barely spoken to him.”

“So where is he now? Oh, right, he’s with his cousin… There goes my chance to talk to him, even now he’s no longer between your arms.”

Frank stared at him, and crossed his arms. “Are we having a fight?” he asked, suspiciously.

Norm thought it over. “No,” he decided. “But Frank, Menno will be here, while Mihangel will go to France next Monday!”

Frank blinked, listening to the slight whine in Norm’s voice. “Yes. He’ll go home after the weekend. He came here to see Menno, Norm… Maybe we should let those two hang out together this weekend? We can keep each other company, if you are bored…”

“I’m not bored.” Norm untied his apron, and wanted to fold it. First, he looked at the text. “Kiss the Cook,” he mumbled. “Mihangel promised me a kiss, you know…”

“He joked.” Frank couldn’t believe his ears, and shook his head when his friend mumbled something more about the promise. “Norm, what are you doing?” he asked. “I came out to you, after hiding my feelings for thirty years. I admitted I love a man. It took a lot of courage to tell the truth. And you meet a blonde guy who jokes about kissing the cook, and you’re all over him? What?”

“I’m not all over him.” Norm mumbled softly, his eyes averted. “He’s interesting.”

“Interested in you, you mean. Norm, Mihangel is gay. He likes men. He obviously likes you… Instead of encouraging him, you should keep a bit of distance, don’t you agree?”

“No. Why would I? Why can’t I enjoy the attention? Do you think an ugly hairy dude like me should be alone his whole life?”

Frank’s jaw dropped. He closed his mouth with a soft thump, and slapped a hand against his face. “Norm, please! You’re not ugly,” he sighed, dragging his hand down. “And yes, I’d be glad if you have a partner for life. But you are not gay, Norm, and Mihangel is a guy. Men who like men are gay. You shouldn’t like his attention.”

“Look who’s talking! You told me you like men, didn’t you? It’s not bad to like men, obviously. So why shouldn’t I like Mihangel? He’s very pretty, I believe. Isn’t he?”

“Yes… Oh yes, he is very pretty…” Frank sighed again. Explaining things to Norm was very tiresome. “It’s not bad to like men, no,” he continued, slowly. “You’re right. You can enjoy the attention. Go ahead, then. Have fun.” Frankly, he hoped it worked out.

Norm’s face split into a broad smile. “I’ll take him home with me tonight,” he said happily. “I’m looking forward to it.”

“I bet he is too,” mumbled Frank, more to himself. He gave up, and shrugged. “How about a beer, Norm?”

Meanwhile, Menno was talking to Mihangel. He asked about his daily life in Paris, always happy to hear some gossips about the celebrities. But Mihangel wasn’t talking with his usual enthusiasm. He wasn’t bragging about the premiers and parties, or about the gifts he had received for his ‘friendship’. Menno saw him glancing at the bear next to Frank more than once.

“Alright, Hangel… Tell me how much you like him.”

“Like him? What do you mean?”

“Don’t lie to me. You know you start blushing when you lie to me. Norm, of course. That hairy big guy with his beautiful green eyes.”

“Yes…” Mihangel sighed deeply, smiling. “They’re beautiful, aren’t they? So green… And he looks so soft and so strong at the same time… Oh, I bet he’s a prince in bed. Gentle, gallant, sweet…”

“Would you like a handkerchief? You’re drooling. Mihangel, love, I don’t want to burst your bubble, but… Norm is supposed to be straight. He may not want to be gallant in bed, you know.”

“Oh, shush. Allow me my daydreams.” Mihangel waved an elegant hand, shaking his head. “I don’t want to know if he’s gay or not. I’ll be with him tonight, and I am going to kiss him, no matter what.”

“Mihangel,” Menno said urgently, “be careful. Straight men don’t like to be kissed by gay men, remember? Lesson number one; stay away from straights, no matter how handsome they are.”

“Oh yes. Like you did, hm? You thought Frank was straight, and yet you couldn’t stay away from him. Look at yourself, before you lecture me. I mean…” Mihangel looked at Norm again, and sighed once more. “He’s gorgeous!”

“Well… Yes,” Menno admitted reluctantly. “I can understand your urge to cuddle him. He’s a bear…”

“Bears need cuddling,” nodded Mihangel. “And so do I.”

Menno caught Frank’s eye, and he pulled a face. Frank answered it with a desperate shrug. Mihangel didn’t want to listen. Apparently, Frank had no luck either. They would both have to see where this would end.
