Twelve: Bang
(I was struck by inspiration after posting the previous chapter. This one had been sitting in my folder since then. Happy Holidays! Characters belong to me and Azathoia. Also, please read his story "Only the Heart Knows Why, Quax's Days"… Have a nice day and please review.)
I casually wait for Quax to come out of the hospital. The last few days are still so fresh in my mind, and that one simple confession keeps popping up. “I guess that’s why I love you.” I keep trying to forget it. I’ve done nothing to deserve his love, so I just continue to keep quiet about it. I can only hope he would let go of this fantasy of his soon and find someone a bit more worthy. I’ve just been so horrible to him ever since we first met; how could he possibly love someone like me? I sigh as I figure out the only logical reason. It must be the good looks, damn it. Maybe that’s why Kaddar stuck around with me for so long too… Kaddar…
“Kanau, are you okay?”
I blink a couple times, and Quax’s face comes into focus. “Sorry, I was thinking about something…”
“Oh, it’s okay,” he tells me, smiling up at me. “I just wanted to make sure.” He bounces a little. “And thanks for the new clothes! They’re great!” Yeah, since neither of us wanted to face his father, I just went out and bought him some new clothes for leaving the hospital in. Now finally looking at him in what I had picked out, he looks……
“Oh please, I have no fashion sense whatsoever,” I mutter, taking his hand and walking away from the hospital with him.
“No, no really; they’re really nice.”
“You hate them,” I say, glaring at his face.
“Well…” he starts, looking down at the clothes, “sheep aren’t really my thing…”
Rolling my eyes, I just go back to watching ahead of us. He thinks I’m just walking him home, but I know better than to put him there again. He’s about to get the surprise of his life; hopefully it’d be a good one. I spent the rest of the money I had saved in the bank for this. “So, Quax, what color is the sky on Mars?”
He doesn’t answer for awhile, and when he does it’s a question. “What are you talking about?”
“Just take a guess.”
He’s quiet for awhile longer, thinking it over. After a few more minutes, he finally comes up with something. “Is it pink? Red?”
I laugh a little. “I did some research on the internet. There was a picture with a pink sky, so I went with that one, since it’s obviously your favorite color.”
“Went with it for what??” The confusion is so noticeable in his voice.
“You’ll see,” I promise him.
We walk pretty much the rest of the way in silence, with him trying to figure out what I was up to. When we finally stop, his eyes widen. “An apartment building?”
I just nod at him, and lead him inside, taking him to a nearby room, taking the key out of my pocket and unlocking the door, and after I open it, I hear him gasp quite audibly. I didn’t have much time to work on this, but it seems to his liking. The ceiling is messily painted pink, with pink pillows where chairs and sofas should be but aren’t because I have no money now. “Welcome to your new home, Quax. I had them put it in your name. You have a job so it shouldn’t be too difficult for you to pay the rent.”
“This is… You did this??” He walks inside and looks around in awe, then goes to check out the rest of his new apartment.
I quietly walk in, shutting the door behind me. At least I was able to get him a couple outfits, which I’m sure he’ll find soon enough, and a small bed. A couple pink towels are in the bathroom for him to use. He comes back out to where I am a couple minutes later, obviously excited about this. “Oh, thank you so much, Kanau!”
“No problem… My old radio is in the bedroom closet whenever you want to listen for like weather or something. It still works, I already tested it.” I raise a brow when I see tears falling down his cheeks. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing is wrong… I just…” He tries wiping them away. “No one has ever… done something like this for me before.”
I smile a little. “You definitely deserve better after all that.” I walk back to the door again, turning around to toss both apartment keys to him, which he catches easily, looking down at them. “I’ll see you later.”
“Hey, Kanau, wait.” He walks up and hands me one of the keys. “Keep this one. Just in case?”
I hold it a moment before slipping it back into my pocket. “Just in case…” I repeat, then turn and walk out, allowing Quax to enjoy his new apartment.

I glance around once I get to my destination. Kaddar’s house. Maybe we could work something out after all? Of course, that thought is shattered once I see him walk out with the other guy. Kaddar is laughing with him until he sees me. “Uhh…”
I just stare back at him. “So, I guess this is Adrian, huh?”
Adrian looks at me with a bored expression. “And I guess you’re the boring fuck, huh?”
… Boring? I’m boring? “You’re just his little bitch, aren’t you?”
This sparks anger in him and he comes up to me. “You better watch your mouth, pretty boy.”
“Or what? You’ll beat me up?”
“Guys, let’s not fight,” Kaddar tries, getting between us. “Nothing good will come from it.”
Adrian continues to glare at me. “You’re just a fucking wuss. You can’t fight; you can’t even look at blood without fainting I bet!”
“Oh, so you do wanna fight, do you?”
Kaddar starts pushing me away, my hands clenching into fists. “Kanau, maybe you should go home…”
“No way in fucking hell do I want to go home now.” I turn my glare to Kaddar then. “Why the fuck did you tell him all that about me?”
“I just… I mean… Err…” He looks between us nervously, obviously not liking being in the middle.
I can see Adrian coming back up to me for more, and as I shove Kaddar out of my way to maybe take a swing at the guy, that’s when I notice what he’s holding…
