Part Twelve
Second last chapter guys!

Part Twleve
The sun glares into the room through the window. Katsu and I both ignore it. The arm around my waist pulls me closer and I smile slightly. My eyes slowly open…I blink a few times at the alarm clock.
“Why’s it not on?”
“Hm?” Katsu leans over me and looks at the alarm clock. “I think the power’s out.” He glances at his watch. “You’ve been late for work for four hours.” He falls back to the mattress and rolls onto his back.
“Damn it!” I sit up quickly and try to get out of bed…but Katsu pulls me back.
“If it were important, someone would have found some way to contact you by now.”
“I…I guess…” I rest my head on Katsu’s chest and close my eyes again. “Sleeping in would be great for a change.”
“Then do so.”
***
“So…the power is out for the entire block?”
“Yes. It happened sometime last night. A car hit one of the electric poles.” I lean against Katsu’s arm as he continues to read the newspaper.
We stay like this for a few minutes before boredom has me almost falling asleep. I stand from the couch and stretch my back. Katsu watches me as I do so.
“This is boring. I’m gonna go paint.”
“Have fun.”
“I will…and try not to watch my ass as I leave.” I smile at him as he smirks at me.
I walk into the bedroom and grab the materials I need. I bring them into the living room and position my canvas how I want it. I prepare the paints and mix a few that I know I’ll need.
“Katsu…”
“Hm?” He moves the newspaper slightly and watches me.
“…I…” I hide behind the canvas. “…want to paint you. But…I want you to read the paper…don’t look at me…alright?”
“Very well.” I hear the newspaper rustle before glancing out from behind the canvas.
I take a deep breath before starting. I take the pencil from behind my ear and lightly sketch out the scene before me. It takes me several minutes before I’m satisfied. I never sketch out too many details because I paint everything I need to. The only thing that will be a problem is the light from outside. But I’ll manage.
When I’m done sketching, I place the pencil back behind my ear and take the paintbrush that’s between my teeth. I mix a few more colours together before starting. It’s been a while since I’ve painted something that’s real life. Most of my paintings are from my mind. I had done a few landscapes in the past and once had a few of my previous servants pose for me.
We both lose track of time as I paint and he reads. A few times he asked if he could change the page. I laughed and told him he could. He chuckled, that damn deep chuckle, and did so. My brush dances across the once blank canvas as I start to work on the background.
“You can move now if you like. I just have to do the background. But you can’t see this yet.”
“I promise. I should start to make something for us. I suppose sandwiches will have to do.”
“Yeah, I guess so.” Katsu walks into the kitchen as I start again.
Most people would consider this a difficult task. But not for me. I usually focus on one point before moving onto another. I can’t jump around like some people do. Some people would even start with backgrounds or start in a corner and branch out. If there’s a focal point in my painting, I start there. I rub at my eyes a little and mix some paints.
“You do that quite a bit.”
“What?”
“You furrow your eyebrows in concentration. It shows how much you enjoy painting.” I stop and glance over at him.
“Really?”
“Most people do that with something they love to do.”
“I guess…I never really noticed…from me or other people.” I shrug it off and continue my work.
He chuckles again and leaves me be. Blood rushes to my cheeks when he does so and I shake my head, trying harder to focus on the scene before me.
***
“You should start up your own gallery.”
“Yeah, right…with what money?”
“You work in an art gallery. You can start there.”
“Yeah…I guess so…but I don’t know. I mean…it’d be great and all…but…I would rather just display them not sell them.”
“Spoken like an artist. You can always just put them in the gallery and people can come and go as they please. If, by chance, someone happens to love your work so much as to buy it, would that be harmful?”
“No…I guess not…but I don’t want to do it for the money.”
“I am sure that no one will think that way.”
Katsu kisses the top of my head as he squeezes my waist gently. The painting took me a long time…I really wanted it to be perfect. It’s of the most precious person in my life.
My smile fades.
“I want to paint a picture of her too…and of Sairou…and Tori…”
“Then do it.
“I know!” I break away from Katsu and grab his cell phone from the table. “Hey, Sairou, it’s…are you having sex with Tori right now?” I cough to hide my laughter. “…when you’re done, meet me at that park a few blocks down from the art gallery.” I hang up and go to the front door. “Come on Katsu…I have a great idea!” I smile at him as he raises an eyebrow in question.
***
“Now stay still and say ‘cheese’!”
“Awesome!” The camera snaps.
Our positions…Sairou was holding me around the waist and kissing my cheek. Katsu was on my other side with one arm around my waist, his hand slightly under my shirt. And Tori was on Sairou’s other side, one of his hands holding onto his chin.
“I hate you all.” I sigh deeply and try to pry Sairou off of me.
“Aw! No you don’t! You’re all hard and stuff.”
“H-hey!” Katsu and Tori help me. “Maybe this wasn’t a good idea.”
“You know it’s all love.” Sairou turns to Tori and presses their lips together. “Now, we’re gonna go back to my place and ride out this blackout. Bye for now, love.” He winks at me and pulls Tori with him.
“Those two really are an odd pair.” I wave them off and smile slightly.
“Perhaps that is why they get along so well. There are some people who need the opposite of themselves.”
“I guess so.”
***
The stars blink and shine in the darkness. It may only be a few places that have this blackout but it still helps the sky look so…interesting. The wind blows through my hair and I close my eyes against it.
Less than two months from now will be one year since I first met Katsu. I remember being entranced by him then hating him soon afterwards. He seemed so proper and organized. But that was mostly for show. Plus the fact that keeping work related stuff organized is better. He helped me so much. It was probably charity or something…but that’s fine. Because of whatever reason he had, we’re together now. I don’t think I’ve been this happy before. The last time I smiled, before Katsu came along, was when my mother was alive. I used to block her from my mind but I can’t anymore. If I ever loved her, I should remember her. She was the one who introduced me to painting…and the violin. She wanted me to take an interest in those things. And I did…for her. But the violin became a strain and painting…I love it now. I hated it for a while though…because of him.
Ever since that person…did…what he did…I began to hate everything. He almost ruined my life. But then…Katsu came and changed everything.
I open my eyes and smile.
