Chapter 12
When I finally get out of the hospital wing, I feel a lot better. My wound is still bandaged up, and I have to take medicine to make it not hurt so badly. Colonel Pocket told me that I’m not allowed to fight for another month so that I can rest.
I walk out into the courtyard, I’m standing in the doorway of the hospital wing. The air is cool and crisp. Winter is almost over, and the leaves on the trees are coming back. Off in the distance, I can hear the sounds of the war.
I look infront of me, realizing I had closed my eyes, and Adam is running towards me. I smile.
“Fae! I’m so happy you’re out!” He gives me a hug and kisses me. “Lets take a walk.”
“Ok, but don’t hug me that tight again. That hurt.”
“Oops, I’m sorry.”
“It’s ok.”
We start walking towards the cabin.
“I want to take you somewhere, but first you need to change your clothes.” I’m wearing jeans and a red tee-shirt.
I walk into the cabin and change into something a little warmer. I put on a long sleeve shirt. ‘I wonder where we’re going?’
“Ok, I’m ready. Where’re we going?”
“It’s a surprise.”
We walk to a car. It’s a ugly green color. It look like a jeep.
“Come on. Get in.”
“Who’s car is this?” I ask.
“It’s Colonel Pocket’s, but he’s letting me borrow it.”
“Ok” He then starts to but a blindfold on me. “Hey! Wait!” I push his hands away.
“What’s wrong?”
“What are you doing?”
“I’m taking you somewhere, but I want it to be a surprise. Don’t worry, I’m not going to do anything.” He reassures me.
“Fine.” I let him put the blindfold on me. I can’t see anything. We start driving.
It’s a long drive. I keep quiet the whole time.
When we finally get to our destination, Adam says to me, “Fae, stay here. I’ll be right back. I’m coming around the car. Don’t take off the blindfold yet.” He gets out of the car.
A few seconds later, Adam opens my door. “Here, take my hand.” He leads me out of the car, and leads me to our destination. “Ok, you can take the blindfold off noe.”
I reach behind my head to untie it, and pull it off.
It’s beautiful. He has taken me to some beach. The water is a clear blue, and there are no clouds in the sky. There are no people around, just birds, and a few animals. A rabbit is hopping around, and there is a deer drinking the water.
“How do you like it?” Adam whispers in my ear, while wrapping his arms around my waist from behind.
“I love it!” I whisper back.
“I thought you would.” he kisses my cheek.
We then walk along the bank of the water’s edge. We walk to a rock that is next to the water. It’s huge rock. We sit on top ot it, next to each other. Adam puts his arms around me.
“I think we should come here more ofter. It’s only about 30 minutes away from camp.”
“Ya, we should. But the drive felt longer than 30 minutes.”
“It feels longer when you’re blindfolded.”
“True.”
We sit there for awhile, just taking it all in.
“You have know idea how worried I was about you. Steph probably told you, but you almost died! I sat by your bed side every day. Your brother called many times to see if you’re alright, and to get updates from the nurse. You should call him later tonight.” Adam finally says after a long silence.
“Ok, I’ll call him. Oh, I knew you were by me the whole time. I actually heard almost everything you said. I know I’ve told you that before, but it’s true. What you were saying helped me stay alive. I thought no one cared about me, and I was happy that yall did.”
Adam kisses my neck. I turn my head, and kiss his mouth. We sit there kissing for a little while.
We then leave, and head back to camp. When we get there it seems like no one is around. ‘Where is everyone? Are they already at dinner?’
“Don’t worry, everyone’s at dinner.” It seems like Adam had read my mind. We walk to the cabin. ‘Why are we going here?’ The lights are all off. Adam turns them on.
“SURPRISE!!!!!!” Everyone from my flight and my cabin is here. The room is all decorated with streamers and balloons, and there is a cake in the middle of the room.
“Welcome back Fae!” Steph yells.
“We’re happy you’re back!” Seth says.
Steph comes up to me and gives me a big hug. “Did yall have fun?” She whispers in my ear. I smile in response; which makes her giggle, and I start giggling because of her giggling. Which makes her start laughing, which makes me laugh.
“What are you two laughing about?” Robin asks us, coming up to us, holding some cake in his hands. “Yall gotta eat some of this cake! It’s so yummy!” I laugh.
“Ok I will in a second.” I look at Steph, “We can talk later.”
“Ok!”
Adam walks over to me. He’s bringing me some cake. “Hey babe! I brought you some cake!”
“Oh, thanks for bringing me some to.” Steph says sarcastically.
“Oops! Sorry sis!”
“Don’t worry about it.” She pats him on the shoulder and goes to get herself some cake..
All of the sudden music starts playing outside. “What’s going on?”
