Bad times begin

So, things are falling into place, but not everything. I'm actually writing better now, so I'm already on the next chapters when I update. It's a great feeling. This is a crucial chapter actually. I hope you enjoy it despite the obvious reasons. I'll be updating soon again, so don't worry too much about the cliffhanger.

------------------------------------------------------------

That kiss, it haunted me. I was thinking about it over and over. His lips were so soft, so moist. They felt good, and it was strange. The feeling I had inside me, it was strange and wonderful. I had never felt this way before. First I finally got a friend that was actually a girl, and then I found someone I liked. It was the best thing that happened to me. It was amazing that a coffee house had brought so much joy in my life. It was too good to be true. It was, so it was inevitable that this should happen.

Why did it have to happen? It was that time I finally found out the truth. The following months were the worst of my life. I found someone to be with, but I couldn’t. Was fate that cruel? It couldn’t be. I guess that’s why things turned out the way they did. Jim came to me again that night. He was distraught. I didn’t know at that time. I would soon though. He came up to me.

“I just thought you should know.” I had no idea what was going on in his head. “I… I like you a lot Sam. I mean….. a lot.” What was going on in his head at the time? “I just want to…” He kissed me again more deeply than last time, and then ran out of the room before I could say something. If it wasn’t for that kiss, I would’ve never done what I did.

The next morning I was released because I was better. My mother, for that moment, came and got me. It was horrible on the way home. She didn’t have to pay anything, but she was still so cruel. I hadn’t known why she was always like that. It was all I remembered getting from her. I hated her with a passion. So much that I couldn’t take her anymore.

“Mother!” I yelled, “Stop! Stop the car!” She looked surprised and actually stopped the car. Before she could start again, I got out and told her. “I’m not coming home, ever again.” Then I slammed the door shut, and went to David.

It took me a while to walk there, but I made it in the end. I walked in and the place only had a few customers, who greeted me. By the time I reached the kitchen, a cup was already made for me, and David. “Come, sit down.” David said, “We can talk back here for more privacy.”

“Thank you.” I smiled at him, and thought about how wonderful it was going to be. “It’s amazing how you do that.”

“Well, I had a little help this time.” He smiled.

I took a sip of the coffee, “This is good. Is it new?”

“It is.” He didn’t stop smiling. “I made it for this special occasion.”

“So,” I was even more amazed. “I’m allowed to live here then?”

“Of course,” He said with a never ceasing smile, “I told you that you could. Your mother figured you’d come here, so she came over. She griped about how horrible you were and that she was kicking you out. She had all your stuff and wished me luck on such a bad child as such you were. It was amazing.” He laughed.

“She said that?” For once I wasn’t mad at her, “I think you are right. It is amazing.”

“Oh,” David stopped laughing. “That’s not what was amazing. She seemed happy that you were going to live here. But none of that matters, I can’t wait till Chloe…”

“Until I what?” Chloe said as she was walking down the stairs.

“Until,” He looked between the two, “you finish arranging things upstairs. That way we can do,” he picked up a broom, and rapped on the floor with the hard end, “this!”

A few people came from upstairs, a few more from downstairs, and the curtain separating the front from the kitchen was opened. Everyone was there; the staff, and my friends. Everyone was glad got out of that hell hole. I asked David about rent, and he wouldn’t hear about it. Everything was going well that day, but, in contrast, the next day was the exact opposite.

I woke up with a smile on my face. It was nice to feel that way for once. I had a guy I liked. I was living in a nice house, and I had a sister who shared something before we went to bed. I told Chloe about the dream I had because of that conversation, but I didn’t tell her who it was. It was that dream that only made it worse. I worked a few hours before I had to go to a meeting. It was there that I first found out.

“You missed out on an interesting meeting the day before yesterday, Sam.” Jerry said.

“I think I remember you saying so last night.” He was at the party too.

“Don’t you want to know about it?” Mary asked.

“Please, don’t say anything.” Sara said. “It was an honest mistake.”

“What?” I was curious.

“She said that you were a rape baby.” I just looked at them. “The coaches rape baby, and that’s why you’re in a position that Jimmy should be.”

“You’re kidding, right?” I couldn’t believe it.

“It’s what my mother told me.” Sara said, “She’s been saying that all of my life, and to stay away from you. I was told not to go near you or I’d get stained as well.”

“Why would she do that?” It made sense then, just a little. About why all the girls hated her. “Did you tell everyone else?”

“Just my girlfriends.” She admitted. “They were told by their mothers too, though.”

“I don’t get it though.” There was something off. “Why would all the mothers of girls say so and no one elses?”

“It’s because you were adopted.” The coach came in. “I have to speak to you alone, Sam. After the meeting though. We need to get started. Where’s Jimmy?”

“He said he’d be here.” Mary said. “It’s not like him to be late.”

The coach was late himself. He ended up starting it anyways. It was his son so he could tell him later. The meeting was like any other meeting. He had organized match for practice runs, and showed me the positioning of the relay. I still didn’t know the significance of it. I was still learning, but the reason why I was staying after the meeting was bothering more than the meeting itself. Jim never showed as well. It made me think about the night before.

I should’ve guessed what was wrong. It wasn’t that hard to figure out, but, still, it was better that I was told before I did figure it out. I would’ve ended up thinking about it all the time, and it would drive me crazy. I wouldn’t have asked if I had; that’s the way I am. There was still that possibility that it wasn’t true, so I wouldn’t have asked. I have that tendency to over think things. Anyone who knew me would know, considering my conspiracies about my own mother. I guess that wouldn’t apply now though.

“Ok.” I wasn’t in the mood for a runaround. “What’s this all about?”

“It’s like I said.” The coach said to me after everyone left. “You were adopted.”

“And?”

“When I was in high school,” he started, “there was a rumor about a girl I knew. Everyone knew she was pregnant, but didn’t believe the story that was told. I’m sure you know David well now. Well enough to believe that he wouldn’t sleep with someone before he got married. It just didn’t seem like him. His family was a good one, and everyone in the community trusted that family.

“So, it’s no wonder that they thought the story those two gave wasn’t correct.” He paused for a second. He looked like he was trying to figure out what to say next, first. “They told everyone, before the pregnancy was noticeable, that they ended up… ended up sleeping with each other. David told her parents that he would marry her; that he was happy to. I guess he really did love her.

“It was a complete shock to me. He never talked to me again. His eyes were full of hate whenever he looked at me. I knew she told him. She never talked to me again either. I was never around them again. I’m guessing that’s where the rumor grew. I was always around them before. Something big has to happen for close friends to become enemies. And something did happen.

“It was at prom.” He took a deep breath and shook his head. “I was an idiot. I had a lot to drink, and that made me bold enough to go over to both David and Lily. I told him off. He had never shown any interest of her while we were together. Then he was going to marry her because he got her pregnant. I said it wasn’t possible. I knew David. I said he was spiteful because I had her first.

“It was then that he punched me out. I was out cold for the rest of the night. I woke up to Ev and she told me what happened. She asked me if it was true about me and Lily. I told her no. She believed me too. She had always been crazy about me. It was close to obsession. Ev, I’ve lost her to because of what happened between me and Lily. I had to tell her a year ago. It was because of Lily, and you.

“I didn’t know about you at that time though. I just realized that David was covering for Lily. He’s a good man. He had to do it, and now I know it was because he loved her. They put up the adoption in David’s name. All for the sake of keeping Lily and your name clean. It backfired though.”

“So, I’m adopted.” I couldn’t it anymore. The only other thing I could say was, “And you’re my father?”

“Yes.”

------------------------------------------------------------

So, what will Sam do? What was Jim thinking? Will he go out with her despite this conflict? All this and more will be revealed.... soon.
