Chapter 12
Those Three Words
“AAAAARRGGHH!!”
“AAAAAH!”
Danny yelled out loudly as Rochelle screamed at the top of her lungs. The whole house shook at their eruption, waking the house filled with sleeping people.
It was three in the morning.
Earlier, he slept in his room soundly until he felt something warm pressed up against his back and he shifted slightly to see what it was. And he was only greeted by a familiar sleeping face.
“What are you doing here?!” Rochelle gasped, pulling the bed sheet over her body.
“This is my room! What are YOU doing here?”
“Well, I was SLEEPING before you decided to scream in my ears!”
“Well, you can go somewhere else!” He frowned making his way off the bed and away from Rochelle. He sighed, slipping on a t-shirt. “What are you doing in Florida anyway?”
“Last time I checked, it was a free country.” She snapped back at him, “Who made you boss what I do, anyway? Don’t get me wrong, after twenty years of living my life, I thought I was the one to make the decisions on where I go and what I do.”
There was a moment of silence that fell in between them as she stared at him and he looked elsewhere.
“Why are you acting like this to me?”
Danny didn’t even bother to hide his feelings as he turned to face her with a hurt expression set upon his face. “As if you didn’t know? Perhaps I’ll refresh your mind. Last night, we were getting to know each other again, and then you run out on me, and then, guess what? I found out that you’re fucking engaged to my fucking brother!”
“W-w-what are you…” She paused, realizing that Scott was the one that spilled everything. He was in for it. “Danny…”
“How the hell can you DO that to me?”
“Do what?! I can’t DATE someone?”
“No! Engage to someone, someone like my brother!”
Rochelle frowned, swinging her legs over the edge of the bed and made her way over towards him. “Please!” She scoffed, “As if there aren’t those fucking groupie whores of yours aren’t willing to SPREAD their legs for you!” She poked his chest roughly, scowling now.
“Are you JEALOUS that I’m fucking other women?”
Her dark green eyes widened at his remark. Yeah, I’m jealous… I’m jealous as hell… But she didn’t let him know what she was thinking. Rather… “Are you jealous that I’m fucking your brother?”
Her reply stung and it stung like hell. His nostrils flared as he grabbed her slamming her up against the wall with a loud thud.
Danny’s lips came crashing at hers roughly.
Shocked at Danny’s rash move, she remained still for a moment almost giving in. Not long after, she started to push Danny away, but it did no good. He only grabbed her hands, his fingers gently intertwining with hers, pulling them high above her head.
The closed door flung open as the men all rushed into the room followed by a very tired Yvonne. All the sleep drained out of everyone as they watched the couple.
Danny pulled away from Rochelle; his forehead pressed up against hers as he whispered to Rochelle and Rochelle only. “Yeah, I’m fucking jealous ‘cause you should be with me, not Jeremy. You’re MY love…” He closed his eyes, a tear trailing down his cheeks, dripping onto hers.
He pulled away from her, his glare returning once more. “If you’ll excuse me.” He turned away from Rochelle, storming out of the room, never acknowledging their presence.
“Rochelle…” Yvonne pushed past Mike and Johnny, making her way over to her best friend. “Are you alright?”
The younger girl nodded, “Yeah… I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. Sorry for all the commotion.” She spoke, never looking at her friends.
One by one, the guys slowly left, returning to their beds. In the end, only Yvonne and Scott remained. They stood with her only in silence. They didn’t know what to say. But perhaps, times like these, silence is the best comfort a person can give.
Danny stormed out of the house. The dark night was cool and lifeless as he walked alone out on the sidewalk. His mind was racing through and through with millions upon millions of questions and deliberation. He didn’t even know where to start off. It only made him even more frustrated.
He sat down on the curb, staring down at the concrete.
And for hours he stayed there.
The sun began to raise, the dark blue sky fading into a light purple. Danny dozed off on the sidewalk while thinking about Rochelle and Jeremy – how much his brother pissed him off. They couldn’t get married.
Everyone was downstairs, chatting away happily chewing at their breakfast. Today, they were going to go to Disneyland. Last time they went was about five years ago. They grew silent as Rochelle came down the stairs.
She slid in next to Russell.
“You guys have fun at Disneyland. I’m not gonna go.” She whispered quietly. Her eyes were red and puffy from so many tears that shed during the night. She closed them with a sigh.
Yvonne nodded, “Alright…” She stroked her best friend’s hair while taking a sip of black coffee, “If you do decide to go though, you know our number.”
She nodded as everyone got up and left the kitchen to prepare for the day.
When her friends left, Rochelle had the whole house to herself. She played a CD – Celestial Haven. She always loved the band and she never stopped loving the band. They were the best and they deserved to be the best. No questions asked. Danny had that husky kind of voice that worked great when it came to singing.
“’my love, I have tried with all my being to grasp a form comparable to thine own, but nothing seems worthy…’” Rochelle rocked back and forth to his song, her lips moving along with every word.
“’I know now why Shakespeare could not compare his love to a summer’s day. It would be a crime to denounce the beauty of such a creature as thee,’” Rochelle closed her eyes, her voice now singing along to the song, “’…to simply cast away the precision, God had placed in forging you.’”
His voice was beautiful. And for so many years, she depended on his voice for her comfort.
“Each facet of your being whether it physical or spiritual is an ensnarement from which there is no release.”
She turned around, her eyes widening seeing the man she loved for so long, standing there, singing her favorite song to her.
“…But I do not wish release. I wish to stay entrapped forever. With you for all eternity… Our hearts, always as one.” He smiled faintly. The song finally came to an end as the two of them stared at each other. “Listening to these old songs… I sound like an amateur.” He chuckled quietly to himself as he seated himself on the couch.
“I think you good either way.” She managed to whisper as she sat next to him.
“Thank you.” He glanced at her. Her eyes were bloodshot from the lack of sleep and so were his. “Rochelle…” She turned to face him, “Do you still have my ring?”
The young woman blinked a few times, and then she pulled out a silver chain with a silver ring, dangling at the end. It had engravings that said, ‘Danny and Rochelle, January twenty-seventh, two thousand six… always and forever’.
“I never take it off… not even after three years.”
Danny smiled, gently kissing her lips, “Our love will never rust.” He cupped her face, kissing her lips gently, and pulled her into a tight hug. She returned his hug, wrapping her arms around his muscular body.
After a while in silence, Danny spoke up once more, “Three years ago… why did you break up with me?”
“I was scared…” She said after a moment’s thought, “My mom and dad are dead. I’m an orphan. I turned to you but I was afraid… scared because we were only teenagers. I was scared that if I relied on you so much… then one day you might leave me. Then… where would I go?”
“I’d never leave you…”
Rochelle looked away from him, “I’m sorry…” she stood up quickly but he pulled her back down.
“Don’t walk away from me.” He stated. It was more as a desperate attempt to get her to stay though. “I can only take so much… walking away.”
She sighed, leaning against him. They stayed silent for a long time. They wanted to say, ‘I love you’ to each other, but those three words aren’t just enough. Danny took her hand, his finger linking in-between hers, grasping them tightly. He smiled at her, tilting his head towards the side, leaning in, kissing the top of her head. His affection for her was more than just three words.
“Hey.”
“Yeah?”
“Let me see the ring.”
“I already showed it to you.”
“No. The one Jeremy gave you.”
Rochelle blinked a few times, not understanding why he wanted to see it. “It’s upstairs.”
“Why don’t you wear it?” He stood up, bringing her up with him. The two of them took their time walking up the stairs and into his room. Danny closed the door once she entered. The two of them never released their grip on each other.
She took the lead this time. She led him over to her purse as she dug through the thing, pulling out random goods – lipstick, Chap Stick, cell phone, mini planner, pens, pencils, and photographs.
Danny took the photograph, looking at it with a smile. It was a picture of them on their cruise four years ago. The two of them kissing in the rain.
“It felt like a fairy tale. So many years ago…” Rochelle smiled faintly, showing him the ring. “Here.”
“Why don’t you wear it?”
She shrugged, “It… doesn’t feel right.” She dropped the ring back into her purse, “I wear it when I’m around Jeremy though, just so he won’t complain.”
“I hope you and Jeremy are happy…” He whispered to her solemnly, sitting down at the edge of his bed. Rochelle gave him a confused look. “I guess… everyone chooses their own road. I can’t tell you who to choose and who not to choose. I suppose… I’m alright with it.”
“Don’t say that…” She tilted her head towards the side.
Danny continued speaking, “If Jeremy makes you happy, then I should be happy for you, not angry. But I’ll always love you, Rochelle. I’ll always love you.” He looked at her with those beautiful blue eyes. They looked so sad… It was heartbreaking…
Rochelle bit her lower lip, wrapping her arms around his head, pulling him close to her. He draped his arms around her wait, burying his face against her stomach. For once, she felt so helpless…
***
“Yeah, I’m going back to New York.” Rochelle called up Yvonne while taking a taxi to the airport. “Uh huuh… yeah, I’m feeling better. Thanks. Oh, um… Danny says that he’s going to be going to Disneyland to find you guys. Yeah, alright. I’ll see you then.”
“That’ll be six dollars, ma’am.” The man spoke up as he pulled into the parking lot. “Thank you. Have a safe trip.”
“Thanks.” She smiled, taking out her small suitcase and made her way towards the check out area.
People stared at her as she walked into the cold, cold room. She was beautiful after all. Rochelle smiled faintly, raising an eyebrow as the men as they frantically went back to do whatever they were doing when they noticed she saw them.
“Hello, miss. How may I serve you today?”
“I need to buy a ticket to New York City, please.” She gave the woman her credit card.
“The soonest flight?”
“Yes.”
“We have a couple seats available; would you care to take first class or economy?”
“Economy class would be fine.”
The woman smiled and nodded. “There you go. Enjoy and have a safe trip.”
“Thank you.” Rochelle took her luggage – it was carry-on – and made her way through the x-ray check.
“ROCHELLE!”
She stopped in her track as she closed her eyes, smiling to herself. Two strong arms wrapped around her tightly as she felt his breath brush against her skin. He smelled of cologne. His soft blonde hair brushed against her cheeks as he kissed her neck gently.
People in the airport were now staring at the handsome couple. Most of the younger ones recognized the guy even though he wore a hat and sunglasses.
“I couldn’t just… let you leave me again.” He whispered into her ear, “You have to promise that we’ll see each other again.” Danny wrapped his arms around her waist tightly, not wanting to let go. “I want you to promise me something.”
Rochelle opened her eyes, turning her head slightly as she saw his blue eyes, “What would that be?”
“At the end of the day… I’ll be the last one on your mind and at the start of the day, I’ll be the first one you think of and the only person you’d say those three words to and mean it. Even if you’re with Jeremy.” He loosened his grip on her as she turned around to face him. She gave him a cold stare for a moment, and his heart stopped, afraid that she wouldn’t make such a promise. Did he ask for too much?
With a sigh, Rochelle placed a hand on her hip, smiling. “You’ll always be the only person that I love. Even if I’m with Jeremy.” He exhaled and returned the smile. Rochelle placed a soft hand against his face, her fingers stroking the outline of his jaw, “I’ll see you soon.”
Danny took her hand, kissing the tip of her middle finger. He nodded, slowly letting her pull away from him. He stayed there until she disappeared from his view and made his way out of the airport – well, after he signed a couple autographs.
***
Rochelle finally made it home. Her first objective was to visit her fiancé. She had some news to break to him.
It was about an hours drive to his apartment, minus the traffic in New York City. When was there not traffic? She bothered not to call him, wanting it to be a surprise. She smiled at the doorman who opened the door to Jeremy’s apartment complex. The thirteenth floor, sixth room.
Rochelle took out the keys to his home, opening it lightly and shutting it gently behind her. “Jeremy!” She called out, but there was no reply. Surely he was home. She almost tripped over her shoes anyway then his jacket.
Frowning, she picked it up, patting it slightly before making her way over towards his room. “Jeremy?” She pushed open the door to his bedroom and there he was.
“That had better be some blow up doll that’s naked in your bed or you’ve got a lot of explaining to do.”

Oooooh. O__o it looks like Rochelle’s pretty pissed off right now.
Dah.
