Part 12

Inside the Haunted

Part 12

---------------------------------

“So… ‘He’ IS coming after me. I thought…I didn’t think that it was…real…” I stammered to Emily as her past self continued to cry helplessly. Emily looked at me, her eyes full of hurt.

“I didn’t want to do it Madigan. Please believe me.” Emily begged.

“Of course I believe you. You were friends with them after all.” I said.

“So…have you figured out ‘His’ name yet? It’s very important.” Emily said. I shook my head and paused. I had a sudden premonition that something was very wrong. I turned around and around, looking for someone or something bad.

“What is it?” Emily asked urgently.

“Emily, are you sure that there’s no more memories?” I asked, thinking that maybe someone just died in another memory. But that was the odd thing. I just saw Francesca die in this memory, but I didn’t feel a thing.

“Did you have a vision or something?” Emily asked me, but I ignored it. Maybe someone just died outside of here…

“Emily! We have to go back to my time!” I shouted suddenly. Emily obliged and we sailed back the normal way through time.

-------------------------------------

I landed back on the Seahawk on my feet. Ignoring the shooting feeling in my ankles, I started to run. Emily quickly followed me.

“Madigan, what is it?” she asked.

“I had a bad feeling in my stomach…like someone had just died or something. I don’t know where Gus and Bernie are, but I need to find them immediately. I wish they were here with me!” I exclaimed breathlessly. Blood appeared on the walls and ceilings and I knew: ‘He’ was here again.

“What do you want now?” I demanded.

“Well Madigan, I’m granting you your wish.” ‘He’ said. Then he laughed a cold, mirthless laugh.

“But not in a way that you would expect.” I didn’t like the sounds of that…

“What are you talking about? I didn’t make any wishes.” I said.

“Actually Madigan, you did. You wished that Bernie and Gus were with you.” Emily stepped in.

“Oh. I guess I did.” I said.

“So…here is your wish.” ‘He’ said.

“But you must find them yourself.” ‘He’ said.

“I don’t want to play any games! Where are they? Where is Bernie and Gus? What have you done with them?” I shouted, but ‘He’ was already gone.

“C’mon Emily. I have to find them, and fast.”

--------------------------------------

“I have a bad feeling about this too Madigan.” Emily protested, but I was already off and running.

“If I was ‘Him’, where would I hide Bernie and Gus?” I asked myself, but I had no idea where he would put them. Probably some unknown place where I could never find them and then it would be my fault that they died. I wouldn’t be able to find them in the right amount of time that ‘He’ had probably put on me.

“Oh come on! I don’t have time to look for them!” I shouted.

“Why not Madigan? You’ve got your whole life to spend here with me! Then you can look for your friends…for ETERNITY.” ‘He’ said evilly.

“Oh brother…” I said.

“Madigan, why don’t we split up?” Emily said. I thought for a moment. If we split up, we could find Bernie and Gus faster and we would cover more ground in doing so.

“Okay. You go that way.” I pointed to the right.

“But Madigan, what if you get lost?” Emily asked.

“I’ll be fine. Just go!” I said. Emily tried to protest again, but I clapped my hand over her mouth.

“Emily. Please, go. I can’t bear to lose anyone else. I need you to go and find them. Please.” I said. I looked at her and I saw her eyes soften.

“Okay. I’ll go.” She said. And without any more words spoken, she was gone.

---------------------------------------

“Thank you Emily.” I whispered into the darkness.

“Okay. Now to find Bernie and Gus.” I said.

I ran and ran and ran until I felt a stitch in my side and I was totally out of breath. I hadn’t heard so much as a peep from anywhere. I was starting to get nervous. What if ‘He’ had already killed them and he was hiding them and plotting to turn them against me and kill me? I shivered at the thought, but I had to keep moving. As I was running, I got very annoyed by my necklace hitting against my face and neck. I took it off and secured it tightly inside my pocket.

“BERNIE! GUS!” I screamed, my voice echoing against the hallways. I was coming up to the only part of the boat that we had really finished: the main hall. I ran inside but instead of seeing white walls, I saw crimson red. Instead of wooden floors, I saw stone. And instead of seeing the only light in this whole ship, there was only darkness. Something inside of me told me that this was where I would find ‘Him’ and possibly Bernie and Gus. But I could only hope.
