Sneaking In
Candy pulled up outside of a large gray building, put the car in park and undid her seat belt. The building couldn’t have had more than three floors. At most.
“Please tell me this isn’t the Facility. It’s so tiny, why would everyone be afraid of this place?”
“Didn’t anyone ever tell you its what’s on the inside that counts?” Candy got out and took a black duffel bag from the trunk and loaded up her mini arsenal, with the exception of her 45, which she had in her shoulder holster.
Angie got out and peaked into the trunk. “So what kind of goodies do you got in there for me?”
Candy handed her a taser gun.
“You’ve got to be kidding me, you get a shot gun and all I get is this?!”
“You wanted to come.” Candy closed the trunk and slung the heavy bag over her shoulder.
“Oh come on Candy this is bull.” Candy ignored her and started walking around the block. When she stopped at a sewer drain, Angela looked queasy.
“We aren’t going in there are we?” she was answered by CAndy laying down on the ground and rolling into the crevice.
“Hand me the bag and get down here.”
Angela rolled the bag into the hole, then got down on her hands and knees.
“There better not be any rats down there….I hate rats…” As she rolled in she lost her footing and ended up splashed up to her knees in the sewage. “Fucking hell…oh my God I’m going to puke. Candy saw no need to tell her that it was just rain water.
“Come on.”
“Couldn’t we have just snuck in the back door or something?”
“If you want to get shot be my guest.”
Angela followed along in silence, trying her best to not think about what she was standing in. She was glad it was so dark down here, it made it easier to try to forget the nasty water. The smell was a different story.
“If this leads into the Facility then why don’t they have guards and stuff down here?”
“Because they don’t know that this is here.”
“How can they not know that its here?”
“Because it’s not supposed to be, when Nathan and Kay used to work in the Facility, they used this way to sneak stuff out. They dug a tunnel into the sewer system.”
“I didn’t know Kay and Nathan used to work at the Facility.”
“Not only did they work here, but Nathan was the one who created the first Experiment…”
“Nathan created the first Ghost?!” Angie stopped dead in her tracks. Candy turned around and looked at her.
“No…the ghosts were not Nathan’s work, he created three Experiments. The first is Bade, then Gavin. Then just before he fled the Facility, he created me.” Candy took off her mirrored glasses and looked at Angie with her bright golden eyes that seemed to glow in the darkness.
******
A tall man with blonde hair and beautiful golden eyes stood in the security room, on the monitor was a young woman and a teenage girl.
“Should I set off the alarm Sir?”
The blonde man smiled. “No…no I don’t think so. We wouldn’t want to scare her away again would we?”
“Sir.” The security guard answered.
The blonde man smiled revealing his sharp pointed fangs.
“Welcome home Sister.” Gavin watched as Candy turned around and spoke to the girl with her.
******
Angela walked behind Candy trying to digest what she had just learned. Candy was an experiment, the third. Bade and Gavin were too. Nathan was once the head scientist for the Facility, Kay was his assistant. He had created all of them. All three of them were meant to destroy, but only Gavin seemed to respond to his programming, Bade was considered a failure.
Nathan had never meant for his creations to be used as weapons, he gave them free will to do what they wanted. They were altered, all of them, to be nearly indestructible. Bade with his fangs and his steel like bone structure, Gavin, basically a new improved Bade, with poison glands beneath his fingernails. Candy had been Nathan’s last creation, had been given a deadly kiss, her lips had a poison similar to what Gavin had beneath his fingernails.
“When Nathan and Kay escaped they took me and Bade with them, the Facility got Gavin. Nathan and Kay were sure to destroy all of his research so that the Facility couldn’t create more experiments.”
“Why didn’t they take Gavin?”
“They tried but it almost cost them their lives…I don’t think Gavin has ever forgiven them for leaving him behind.”
“That still doesn’t explain where Ghosts came from…”
“Ghosts…were a terrible mistake.” Candy stopped at a hole in the side of the tunnel. “Here’s our stop… Candy crawled into the hole that was about 4 feet in diameter, just wide enough for her to fit through with her bag. Angie crawled through after her.
“When Nathan left, the other scientists were pressured to create another experiment, but none of them had much to go on. Gavin was their only remaining link to Nathan’s work. In the end they ended up making it up as they went along, eventually they created the first Ghost, it didn’t take them long to realize that they were nothing like us, they couldn’t be controlled.
They were…primitive, they only knew how to kill. To the Leaders of the facility, this was a great success, they had finally gotten a hold of the ultimate weapon, a creature with no sense of remorse, something that could kill with out hesitance.”
Angela kept following Candy careful not to get to far behind, if she had been claustrophobic she probably would have died. Suddenly the tunnel began to descend, at first she thought it was a coincidence, but then it defiantly steepened.
“Candy why are we going down?”
“Because…the facility is under ground. That’s what makes it so impenetrable.”
“Are you serious?! How big is it exactly?”
“About sixteen city blocks.”
