Twelve

It was Lysande who spoke next, “You two look perfect together, I have to say. Although…I never thought you actually existed, but merely a product of Ladislao’s VERY active imagination. So you can imagine my surprise to see that you are in fact, real, and just as stunningly beautiful as he described you.”

“Y-You humble me, Lysande,” I replied stuttering, “You will have to forgive me for asking, but how long has he been talking about me?” I was rather unnerved to be thought of as a figment of imagination.

“Lets see, I would say probably about the time you were born, what ’74? That sounds about right. I have to say his enthusiasm was infectious to the point that there are many who still are clamoring to meet you. We even gave you a nickname…Eclipse.” She replied.

“Eclipse…well, that is beautiful…and they are mysterious aren’t they?” I said. “Why all the anticipation? I know that the circumstances surrounding my birth are rather unique, but hardly worth waiting in line for…”

Lysande interrupted, “Ladislao told us of the prophecy.”

Ok, she had me.. “What prophecy?” I asked.

“Oh…you don’t know? I felt sure he would have told you….hm, well, I am sure he will get to it.”she said cryptically.

We made our way around the dance floor in silence. My head was filled with questions that only Ladislao would be able to answer. I could only assume that there was more to it than what the Godhia had told me many years before.

I put these thoughts away from me and concentrated on what was before me. I looked at the faces of the other dancers as we passed them. It seemed that every culture and country was represented in the crowd. I looked again at my dance partner.

Lysande…like Ladislao, she was a phenomenal dancer, but then, like him, she’d had a few hundred years to practice. I still could not believe that the most gorgeous creature I had ever laid eyes on was calling me beautiful…..the world had just stopped making sense.

I smiled, shook my head and took the lead. I took her hand and spun her across the length of the dance floor and dipped her as low as I was able.

“Ah, so there is strength,” she said, winking.

She again took the lead, expertly taking control…………
