Steady

Shorter. Took an hour to write or so, which is better than yesterday's posts. Mezzer (?) asked a bunch of questions, most of which I couldn't answer this post, so I picked the ones I knew I could and filed the rest for later. AS for the Lillow question of shutting out other people from her mind, I have no idea. Lillow is like water. If there is an obstacle, she flows around it. Leaping in doesn't mean you'll see the whole river and taking a cup doesn't mean you can confine her. For the most part, she's kept her powers as much of a secret as she could from people. So likely she's done the same with the Sidhe.

Evidence of this is the fact that Lillow can harness the power of healing, even though she wasn't necessarily born with it. Her power is to tell the future, thus she can use that and any powers the Sidhe share as a general population. But where Essuan was teaching her herbs and such, the two of them discovered that Lillow could use healing powers as well. Likely Lillow isn't as clever as Essuan is at it, but in times of great need, Lillow can use it. Like when Mik's hands were torn during Paw's heat.

Hopefully she doesn't learn Paw's powers. Dangerous. Not to mention the whole nightmare thing. Paw is concentrated and can shut the world at large out of his mind, can keep himself seperated kind of thing. Lillow... not so much. She can single out a person, but until she learns more... the entire city would likely have the same nightmare. Everyone except Souse, that is.

Souse is also a bit off his game, has been since Essuan got pregnant. Which might be another reason why he can't get inside Lillow's head.

While Souse uses others' powers, Lillow's use of power is completely her own. She doesn't need a healer near her to heal, kind of thing.

Read, Review and Enjoy.

The pair slid out of the apartment and met four startled faces. Mik pressed his lips together. Even Jay had had the sense to flee the apartment. Using his cover as a people to flee the terrified woman. Coward. Or. Very, very smart man, but Mik preferred the first.

“Well?” Mik’s mother was the first to speak.

“Lady stuff make Essuan throw things,” Paw said in a bit of a higher pitch than normal, “but is okay now.”

Koln pointed stiffly to the wall that the kitchen sink sat in front of. The handle from the stove was protruding from the wall. Paw looked at the handle, chewed on his bottom lip and looked at Mik’s mother.

“Mommy never throw something at male during preggers? Same deal. ‘cept Essuan strong.”

“Strong as you?” Jay muttered into his hand.

“No. She healer. Tribe protect healer and Essuan not need physical to gut or neuter. Paw stronger. Because Paw need physical to gut or neuter.”

“So instead of one wall, it would have been four,” Mari muttered with a sigh, putting her hand to her forehead for a moment, “I will fetch Edno, and the other partners of the Elders, would you mind,” she made a motion to the door of the apartment as she spoke to Koln, “dealing with that, please?”

“Certainly,” Koln responded.

“What do you want us to do?”

“Go to your apartment,” Mari snapped, “the two of you have caused enough of a problem for one day, I should think.”

Paw made a face, for a split second as Mari looked away. It was exasperation mixed with frustration. Paw made a motion towards their apartment when Mari looked back and headed towards the door.

“Thanks, Mari, for making me feel like a child caught with my hand in the cookie jar,” Mik snapped back at the woman, “They are the ones who chose this path, rather than talk it out, not us. We are not to blame, we are simply the problem they chose to bicker over.”

Mik moved off to join Paw. The Sidhe blinked at Mik and opened the door for him. Once the door of the apartment closed, Paw folded his arms across his chest and pinned Mik with a look.

“Should you be attacking her? She is your superior.”

“Even superiors can be wrong.”

“She-”

“Knows nothing of love, lust or desire Paw, she herself has said as much. What right does she have to judge us when we react to our emotions when she doesn’t know what it’s like?”

“Alright. You have a valid point there.”

“Are you, or are you not an Elder, damn it?”

“Not, Lillow is correct, according to the laws of tribe, I have not been accepted nor brought into the tribe and I will not accept a position. Souse thought to cast aside the tribe laws because of our position. Essuan has made it clear that will not work. Which means.”

“You are only paired with someone in the tribe. What does that mean for Lillow and I? You just declare intent to leave without consulting me?”

“Mik. If they decline our so called exception to the rule, which it isn’t one, damn it, then you and I will be separated. Completely. I am not willing to live like that. And I certainly won’t breed like that. They’d just trade me off again at the first chance and I highly doubt the second person I’m gifted to will be …” Paw made a motion with his hands that Mik didn’t quite catch.

“What do you mean, it isn’t a rule? It’s a people and a Sidhe.”

“Only female and male, people and Sidhe must go through Elders. And then the people, or Sidhe, depending on where they chose to live, is made… infertile. Males and males is hardly a question.”

“And female and female?”

“Is… a bit complicated… women deal with that one, not Elders. Any which way, is … not up to anyone else and everyone making such a big deal when not a big deal. Dun matter what everyone else thinks,” Paw pointed at the door, “not matter what they think. I,” a motion with his other hand to his chest as his left hand continued to point towards the door, “not care what others think or believe because Paw knows rightness of situation, knows rules of situation. I only care what Mik thinks.”
The Sidhe dropped his left hand to his side and waited for Mik to respond

“Mik…” him, his name was Mik, “was afraid when he found out what it meant. And then he was excited. Mik can’t… I mean… I don’t … know if I’m ready to mate someone. But you’re not asking to mate, not yet, you,” Mik pointed at him, knowing that Paw would take it more personally, take it like Mik had said his real name out loud, “are asking for more, but not too much.”

“Means?”

“Yes Paw. I’ll… ehm… go steady with you?”

Paw frowned at Mik, “what?”

“Violet tried to translate it for me.”

“Ohhhhh. Steady to go, go steady, date, old term. Ah, Paw ‘members now.” Paw stared off into the distance for a moment, “about right, supposedly,” a shrug, “probably means more than that.”

“Engaged to be engaged?” Mik asked.

Paw snorted and then chuckled, “that is closer, this one thinks.”

This one? Since when did Paw say ‘this one‘? Whisper said ‘this one,’ the other Sidhe said their names, always. Almost always. Mik forced himself to smile. It was likely just a slip of the tongue. The Sidhe were only trying to make people understand them with as little confusion as possible.

“Paw, how about we go to the bedroom and finish what we started in Essuan’s kitchen?”

Paw grinned and took Mik’s hand, “of course,” Paw pulled the hand to his lips and gave it a kiss, “Paw was hoping Mik would say that.”
