Una
I thought about taking today off, me time. I've gotten better... only to get the sore throat/chest/head cold that everyone else in the house has. Go me go. *sighs* I've heard from one person that the site didn't come up. Which makes me sad, as Lisa's been an avid commenter and poor site didn't work for her. I then went to several people in various places across North America, who I know online, who use various computers and web thingies and they could all get on so I'm not certain how to fix whatever is wrong. I might just send out the oneshot via mass email to whoever can't get it. The idea of putting it on aff upsets me and kind of upsets the world. It may just be the cold thing talking. Though at the same time, I wrote the oneshot and put a good deal of effort into getting it right, so that it could be a treat on the site. Gimme some time to think about it. This, I imagine, is how many of Mik's and Paw's conversation goes "oh the weather is nice today" "by the way, it was hailing earlier today and the dog's dead honey" "do you think they have candy in the sixteenth ring of hell?" "I would think candy would be reserved for those in hell who hate candy, blow up at the sight of it."Gotta run so read, review and enjoyPaw was lazing on the couch with Lillow sitting almost in the male’s lap, a book in her lap. She was reading out loud from the book, stumbling over what most children could read before they started school. The television was off, a blanket draped over their legs. One of Paw’s hands sat on Lillow’s leg, the other barely touched the girl’s wrist. A completely inappropriate position for a male people to be in with his daughter, Mik thought. The two of them sitting like that put Mik on edge. It was the hand on the leg. The possession of this younger female. It didn’t seem like a casual gesture. “Is this an appropriate way for a male Sidhe to sit with his daughter?” Mik asked Paw, motioning towards Paw’s hand on Lillow’s leg. The Sidhe looked at first one hand, then the other. He glanced down, as if wondering what Lillow was sitting on, “It is, yes.”“Possession and guidance, is that what it is?”Paw looked puzzled. Lillow stopped her reading and looked up at the man, before looking back over her shoulder at Paw, “are you two fighting?”“No. Mik is just about to explain why he’s talking like a stupid people.”“Because I am one. Because they want us to explain what we see now. Thus…” Mik motioned again.“Possession and guidance. Supposing if a people needs to call this something, that is what it could be,” Paw murmured, “Sidhe not want such things spoken.”“Why not-”Lillow turned around and smacked Paw upside the head with her book, “NOT PAW’S POSSESSION,” the girl struck him on the other side of his head with her book, “not in need of guidance. Stupid. Stupid. HATE YOU.”She threw the book at the wall and stomped out of the living room. Mik picked his jaw up off the floor and rushed over to Paw. The Sidhe had his arms curled over his head, to protect himself from the blows. Paw peeked out and set his arms in his lap, sighing as he did so.“Because it is a way of doing things without being assertive about it. To dominate without obviously dominating. Some Sidhe, like some of you, not like idea of someone else possessing or dominating or doing anything at all for or to Sidhe. Is like. How …” Paw went bright red, “gat Mik to give him popsicle without asking Mik to do it.”Mik stared at Paw, not understanding.“First time.”“You. But you were. I mean.” Mik felt odd, an emotion he couldn’t explain. He clamped down on it and bit his upper lip for a moment, “all right. I get it, I understand.”“Good. People need not explain in front of Sidhe. Stupid idea. ‘specially if’n Mik ever want sex ‘gain.”“Right. Which makes one little kink in the problem thing that we’re having.”“Problem thing?”“We’re having lessons, with our Sidhe, on communication. Speaking from one person to the other and interpreting body language.”“… interpreting body language should happen after Sidhe gone,” Paw looked towards a corner, “’less people want upset Sidhe on hands.”“Right. I think we get that, understand it,” Mik gave a small nod, “What exactly are we going to do about her… now that she’s… pissed?”Paw looked towards Lillow’s door and made a face, “hate teens.”“And you’re going to be a dad in a couple of months.”“Souse father of Essuan’s children. Paw only provided the other half,” Paw shrugged.“Souse doesn’t know how to control his powers,” Mik sat on the arm rest of the couch, “Essuan is a healer, if what I recall is correct, healing powers are passed from mother to child. And. You have good blood, seems to me, what Souse calls good blood has powers in it.”“Better blood does,” Paw murmured.“You and Essuan, therefore, means a child with power. Most likely. Do you really think Souse is capable of teaching the child how to use their powers properly?” Mik asked Paw.“Tribe raises child, not one parent. Souse may determine if child is taught to tan or skin or fish or hunt or defend. But if a child is born with powers, then those of tribe with powers teach child how to use powers,” Paw shrugged.“You don’t care at all? No cute little kitten for you?” Mik responded, “No urge to have a child of your own? Or. Are you too young to want a child of your own?”“Why have child of own if not allowed to have Mik’s child?”“I wouldn’t mind having a Sidhe babe as ours, yours and mine. Of course. I suppose that means we have to talk a female out of her rights or something.”“Mik is getting better at getting information,” Paw murmured, “Why is Mik interested in children?”Mik shrugged, “Essuan being pregnant has given me a lot of time to think about children. We’ve been together like eight months now.”“Mm,” Paw made the sound at the back of his throat, “Mik sound like Mik proposing.”“Gods no. Mating between our races isn’t legal,” Mik snorted, “probably never will be. And I’m not proposing. But. What kind of stuff would have to happen to legally have a Sidhe child?”“Impossible. Woman would have to give rights over to another and then woman must die. Not of other’s hand, not of other’s will. Whisper is called in to look over whole thing. If anything astray, child given over to mother’s tribe. Galt would not be wise to try such a thing.”“Galt would be gutted fourteen different ways if he tried such a thing.”“Nort may get it in his head to raise a Sidhe child as people. Thusly completing a circle and gaining something that understands both Sidhe and people culture. That way is impossible. Now. If Mik wants child,” Paw shrugged, “then maybe Paw should have speaking times with Souse about such a thing. In time there could be a female who does not want babe but is of good blood.”“Uhhuh,” Mik adjusted himself on his seat, “I think Mari has a secret plan with all this.”“Mari… Illuen. Priestess of Illuva. There is always four different reasons why they say something, why they laugh at a joke. Visuit, man from television who declare war on Sidhe is Illuen, or once was. Now he is out and Mari is coming through program, dealing with program as another Illuen declares war and thus destruction upon Sidhe. Two different sides. Illuva is split about a decision. Or…”“Or… people have gone fucking crazy and the Illuen are trying to clean up their mess.”Paw made a motion to himself, “was going to say that of the gods, sometimes plan seem hidden but are in plain sight. Sometimes what people see as one thing is not truly the one thing. Existence is existence. But sometimes up is down and down is up and when a person looks into a lake, they think it is the sky, but is only the reflection of the sky. Instead of flying, they plunge to their own demise.”“A Sidhe has never done that?”“Illuen have, since the birth of Illuva, based their actions off of those of Sidhe. Illuva, says,” Paw reached under the cushion and pulled out the blood bible Mik had brought him the day before, “Sidhe are the example of which all followers of Illuva, if not all people, should base their actions off of. To love Mother, to proclaim ayata to only her, to bow to Mother and give one’s body back to Mother upon death.”“You… read that entire thing?”“Twice,” Paw murmured, “Lillow napped for several hours. Paw needed something to do.”“Uhhuh. So I should act like a Sidhe because I’m just a stupid animal?”“People were pray, teeth made for plants and then onto meat you went. Stupid. Stupid to waste generations adapting to eating meat when people can survive with only plants. Sidhe were hunters,” Paw bore his teeth, “omnivorous from start. People fear Sidhe still, say Sidhe eat people in dark. Why Mik think that?”“Because of the unknown.”“People also say wolves eat people. When last time, Mik thinks, people eaten by wolves?” Paw’s head cocked to the side, “People were once Sidhe prey. Paw knows of that time. Sidhe keep good history. Sidhe used to chase people into lakes. People drowned, too dim to see that what they thought was sky was actually water, they could not breath there.”“Paw. Freaking me out. And stop looking at me like I taste good.”“Mik does taste good. But not in nomnom, want to eat Mik,” Paw moved across the couch and leaned close to Mik’s cheek, “more like nomnom, Paw want kiss and lick and nibble Mik’s skin because Paw finds it pleasing.”“Uhhuh,” Mik murmured, looked away from Paw, “that’s nice dear.”“In Una it speaks of sex and the many wants of a person. Why does Illuva’s bible talk of sex like that?” Paw flipped through the pages and held the specific page out to Mik. Writing scrawled through the margins of the book, “Illuva does not like sex, not really.”Mik snatched the book from Paw, “did you write in this? Blood bibles aren’t exactly easy to come by, Paw.”“Writing already in it,” Paw jabbed at a spot, “says there of the love for a mate. Love as a lust. Love for a family member. Love for a brother or a sister. Love for a king or a queen.”“Love is different from sex, Paw.”Paw pointed at the spot again, “love as a lust. This all in Una’s book. What the fuck is so special about Una?”“You know all that history and you don’t know about Una?”“Noooo… what does Mik know about Una?”“He. Founded Ba en Una, the city of Una, long before Illuva walked the earth. Una became the title of the one who owned the land. Ba en Una and Ba en Mofvanse were the only cities to stay out of the territories, the only ones who would not bow to the lines. Because of Ba en Una, our nation was founded. A land of neutrality, where democracy ruled and where all could be free to be as they are, to be equal to one another, no matter their religion or sex or desires.”“But Ba en Mofvanse was place of god, name means City of Gods. Technically City that belongs to the gods. But people shortened it to City of Gods,” Paw shrugged, “is where all were free to do as they please.”“But Ba en Una had the laws that could keep a man in line. Ba en Mofvanse was a … chaotic mess. Wait a minute. How do you know about one and not the oth-” Mik stopped speaking mid sentence and glared at Paw, “You do know about Una.”Paw sighed, “Yes. But. If one knows all, why bother speaking at all?”“To hear what other people think on the subject?”Paw grinned and bent over, pecking Mik’s cheek, “Mik getting smarter and smarter all the time!”.
