Nick banged on the plain white plastic door, rolling his right
shoulder blade and wincing as it stung.
“Please be in El...” he whimpered, collapsing against
the low step as his knees gave way just as the red haired girl opened
the door.
“Nick! What... Why... What’s happened?” She
inquired; worrying her lip as the blond shakily stood looking at her.
“I... I need your help with something.” He replied,
lowering his hood to reveal a long cut on his left cheek, hearing a
sharp intake of breath from her as she took it in.
“Get in the house and lay on the sofa, I think I have
something to help clean that up.” Ellie helped him to the large
living room, placing him on the sofa and catching his right shoulder,
a low gruff groan of pain ripping from his throat. “Nick...
What has happened?”
Nick looked at the floor, slowly peeling off the grey jacket he
was wearing, revealing the blood stained top sticking to a weeping
slash on his shoulder blade. Ellie bit her lip harder, gingerly
reaching out to turn him in his seat.
“Please, tell me?” she almost begged, reaching into
the drawer of the desk just next to the sofa and pulling out a small
pair of scissors. Nick shook his head, trying to concentrate on
keeping his breath even as she cut at the bloodied fabric. Ellie
worked quickly, using the clean parts of the ruined top to stem the
flow of fresh blood leaking from the slash.
“E...El, i...it hurts.” Nick whimpered, feeling his
stomach lurch as he spoke.
“Shh. It will hurt.” She soothed, peeling the sticky
fabric away from the slash, making soft noises each time Nick made a
sound. Finally peeling the rest of the top away from his body, she
moved to the kitchen, searching for the anti-septic cream, making a
triumphant tone as she grasped at it and some gloves and bandages.
Moving back to the living room, she took in Nicks trembling frame.
“This will hurt more, but it needs to be done Nick.”
She warned, slipping on the gloves and cleaning at the wound before
carefully rubbing in the cream to the affected area, wincing as Nick
cried out sharply at the sting.
Nick blinked back tears, closing his eyes as the blinding pain
shot through his body,
“S...stop please!” He shrieked, his voice cracking,
sighing as he felt her move away.
“All done now, I just need to bandage it up.” Ellie
spoke softly showing him the roll of bandages she was holding. Nick
just nodded, taking a deep breath as her small hands made short work
of tying them around his shoulder. “You’re staying here
though. No if or buts from you.” She told him sternly,
gathering up the ruined top and placing it in the small bin in the
corner of the room along with the gloves. Nick just nodded, too weak
to argue with the tall female.
Ellie sat next to him, settling back into the sofa cushions and
pulling him between her legs. Nick fidgeted, shivering as the cold
air danced over his body.
“Ellie... It... It was Nathan...” He spoke softly,
feeling her tense and relax.
“Don’t worry. I’ve had it with him. He has gone
too far this time.” She growled, grabbing the blanket and
wrapping it around them. “He really is out of here when he
finally turns up.”
Nick nodded, resting his head on her chest as his eyes closed,
feeling safer than he had done in months.
