Dinner and a makover

“Good evening Sven.” Blake acknowledged him as we approached the carriage. Once we came close enough, the butler opened the carriage door for us to enter.

“You first.” Blake smiled down at me and let me in before him.

The seats were white velvet and the walls had gold vines winding up and down them. The only difference between the walls here and the ones inside the capitol was that their base color was purple.

I sat in the seat closest to the window on the opposite side of the door. Then came Chase who sat in front of me followed by Blake who sat beside me. I hadn’t realized this just now how tall these two were compared to me. I was skinny and only was about chest high to both of them.

“I told him to head towards the Christened Barber’s Shop.” Chase announced proudly. “So we should be there quickly.”

“Alright. While we’re there I’ll send for some clothes for you to choose from. If you have any preferences, feel free to tell me and I’ll gladly advise my servants.”

Hearing Blake so bluntly make that statement, I was sure they had to be kings.

“I don’t suppose you enjoy my sort of fashion do you?” Chase asked.

I examined his puffy cloths and uncomfortable looking pants. “It looks alright, but it also looks like it might be a little uncomfortable to wear all day.” I answered honestly.

“True, but only to someone who hasn’t grown accustomed to it.” The blond smiled.

Blake took the opportunity to make his own statements. “What about something similar to what I wear? Would that suit you’re tastes?”

I examined his suite. It was dark blue as usual, but stiff fitting. Or so it appeared. “No, it also looks like something I’d be uncomfortable in.”

“Then what kind of clothes are you accustomed to?” Chase asked. “Do you like cotton? Leather? Or perhaps you have the finer tastes suited to clothes made from silk?”

I shook my head at all of those. “I grew up wearing blue jeans and ordinary short sleeved shirts.”

“Blue jeans?” The blond asked.

“Short sleeved shirts?” Blake wondered. “I’ve never heard of such a fashion.”

“Neither have I.” Chase responded. “Perhaps you should just have your servants find what ever cloths look appealing and have Singer choose which outfit he feels more comfortable in.”

“Agreed.”

The two commenced examining me with their eyes and discussing what form of cloths I should try on. This went on for the rest of the ride.

I was last to exit the carriage. As I did so, I noticed that there were street lamps. Yet, these ones were different from the one’s I was used to. Instead of a light bulb, each one had a small orb of white light levitating above poles.

They aligned the streets on the outer border of the crosswalks. The buildings were also just as strange. Their roofs were red and shaped like Hershey’s kisses. The building itself was made out of some strange blue material I had never seen.

There were more handsome people walking amongst us. They stood around us gazing at our little group. I noticed a few glances at me, but not as many as I had back at the capitol.

“Keep close Singer.” Blake told me as I felt his hand on my shoulder.

Hearing what the man had called me had an instant reaction to the people who suddenly began to crowd around us.

I heard familiar statements being made in regards to whether I was really ‘him’. Then there were the other questions in which I wasn’t accustomed to which pertained mostly requests to hear me sing.

I have to admit, I was feeling like a rock star at this point. This must have been what it felt like when Usher or Lady Gaga tried to go out in public.

Blake and Chase hurried me into the barber shop and told the barber to just do his best with me, then ushered me into a chair to be worked on.

I sat staring at my reflection in the mirror as the handsome redheaded barber did his job and hacked off the uncontrollably knotted parts of my hair. Over time I had no idea it had grown so long.

While my hair was being done Blake and Chase had to wait in front. Afterwards the man happily led me out to the front where I found boxes of clothes lying around with the two men gawking at me.

“Singer….” Blake whispered to himself.

I didn’t think I looked all that great. Regardless of my haircut, I still had to be unpleasant to look at.

“Do you like it?” The barber asked them.

“It’s perfect!” Chase answered gleefully. “I had no idea anyone could look so amazing! I can’t wait to see what he looks like after he changes clothes!”

“You really think I look alright?” I asked.

Blake took a step forwards. “Even better.” The look in his eyes resembled the adoration which was visible in the other onlookers.

I was suddenly startled as Chase clapped his hands loudly. “Well then, let’s get you into something more suitable and we can go out to eat!”

“We?” Blake sounded surprised. “We didn’t plan that.”

“So? Does that mean you want to leave after this? I’ll be more than happy to escort him around Mooncrest by myself.”

“No!”

I jumped at Blake’s sudden response. Seeing this he composed himself and coughed into his hand before repeating himself. “No. I don’t mind.”

“Great! Now then, pick something out and we’ll have something to eat. Tell us what you like while you choose and we’ll take you to the restaurant.” Chase addressed me.

I looked around myself. We were still in the barber. “Where do I dress?” I wondered aloud.

“In the bathroom of course.” The barber pointed out a door to the right of the room before the chairs were set.

It seemed everyone was a bit too excited over having me dressed, but I didn’t have a choice and picked out the most normal looking clothes I could find and put them on.

I came out in a pair of black pants with a long sleeved red shirt that had some sort of puffy flap of cloth at my collar. The arms of the shirt had slits from my wrists to my elbow that connected with a button at the very end to prevent my arm from coming out of it completely.

Even Chase didn’t have anything to say and they simply stared at me as though hypnotized.

“If it looks that bad I’ll pick something else.” I offered.

“No, it’s perfect!” This time it was Chase who made the outburst. “We like it, we really do! You look so adorable in it I wouldn’t change a thing!”

Adorable? Like a puppy? I wondered, but didn’t say it.

“It’d be nice to see you dress like that more often.” Blake exclaimed.

I looked away. The praise I was receiving from these people wasn’t something I deserved.

“Now then, what food do you like?” He asked.

“Yes, what food?” Chase included.

“Anything that doesn’t resemble country cooking.” I answered. There was no way anyone was ever going to get me to eat a hamburger, curly fries, or even chicken pot pie willingly. Back at the diner that was all I had to eat. Or at least what was left of it.

We went to a restaurant on the edge of town, or the city, I still didn’t know which one this place was yet.

It was amazing. This restaurant was extravagant with waiters dressed in fine suits and blue marbled floors with a painted tiled ceiling resembling treetops. The building in itself could possibly have held ten buildings the size of the diner inside of it, possibly even more since it had two floors which were three stories high each. But what was even more amazing to me was that the tables actually levitated! We sat near one of the enormous windows overlooking Mooncrest and I attempted to push the table down once as the two men made their orders, yet the table refused to get any closer to the ground. So I swung my leg around under it to see if there was anything holding it up that I couldn’t see.

“Is there something wrong?” Blake asked.

Once again he was sitting next to me as Chase sat across.

“No.” I answered.

“So tell us about yourself.” Chase asked.

“What should I tell you?”

“Anything, as long as it’s about you.” Blake answered, and then blushed. “I mean, I didn’t mean for that to sound so strange.”

“It’s alright.” I smiled. I assumed they meant like favorite things to do, eat, and so on. “I guess I could tell you my favorite movie is the Wizard of Oz.”

“Movie?”

“Yeah. It was the last movie I watched together with my parents before they died.”

Chase appeared appalled. “Your parents are deceased?”

I nodded. “They died when I was still a little kid. I didn’t spend very much time in school and stopped going a long time ago, though I do regret doing that. I’ve never really had any friends before either, so I’m used to being alone. Also, I’m not particularly fond of candy, especially not chocolate. I know everyone loves it but it just isn’t my favorite thing to eat.”

“So you didn’t like the gift basket we had left for you?” Blake looked upset.

“Oh! No, I actually did! I didn’t eat anything all day and it was nice to have something to eat. I really do appreciate the gift! Just because I said it wasn’t my favorite and that I normally don’t like it doesn’t mean I don’t’ like to have some every now and then!” I tried my best to sound sincere.

“I’m sorry but I had failed to ask what kind of drinks you would like with your food?” A beautiful woman was standing next to the table with a piece of paper and a pencil in hand.

The two men faced faced her. As they did I looked out the window to calm myself down. The last thing I wanted to do was offend these two.

While I gazed outside I came to notice that the sky was getting lighter out. As I examined the colors which were taking over the skyline I noticed something move around outside. It began to come closer and closer until I finally made out the shadow.

It was just outside the window on the sidewalk and was blending in with the building and leaking inside under me. Not knowing what to do, I turned to the two men who’s focus was still on the woman as they decided what they wanted to drink. The last thing I saw was the waitress facing Chase and nodding at something he said.
