Chapter 11

Oh boy was he right…
Pen had been lying on the floor, far away from Las. If he as much as tried to touch Las he would growl or move away from him. Pen was getting frustrated but he knew that Las had a reason to be mad. But not this mad. It had been Thirteen days! Thirteen very long, boring days. The whole pack knew that Las was mad at their alpha and that he had reason to be angry too. That made Pens life so much worse… Shabelle forced him to attend to every meeting. Celio took care of Tan and didn’t help him. Doll and Em left him with the kids, which was fun as long as they behaved…
Right now Pen was at his limit. Las ignored him and wouldn’t talk to him. Pen was depressed. And he had finally had enough of it.

Las was sitting with Doll and Em, talking about forgiving Pen today. Las felt really sorry for the poor wolf, but everyone else seemed to like it. Shabelle said that he had done a really good job as an alpha. But enough was enough. Las would go and look for him, ask him to talk to him. He said goodbye and then went to look for Pen.

When Las found him in their hut he had to blink his eyes to see if what he saw was true. Pen was packing stuff. A lot of stuff.

“What are you doing?”

Pen looked up but quickly turned away and started to pack again. Las had seen the hurt look.

“Pen, what do you think you’re doing?”

“Packing.”

“Where are you going?”

“To another hut, I’m going to stay with Celio and Tan until I’ve built myself another one.”

“What about me?”

“Isn’t it obvious? You’re staying here.”

“What?!”

Pen looked at him but his eyes were glued at Las chest.

“You’re… leaving?”

“Well, yeah.”

“Why?!”

“Because this isn’t working? Because I can’t seem to do anything right?”

“But-but…”

“Don’t worry, I won’t do anything. You’re free to do whatever you want.”

With that Pen walked out, leaving a shocked Las standing there.
Las could only think of one word.

FUCK!

He turned around and started to run after that damn wolf.

Pen was walking with his bag, not noticing the looks he got from his pack. He looked at the ground, trying hard to turn back around. He had been thinking and he knew that he had made the right decision. Well he didn’t plan on leaving Las for good, but maybe they would be fine for a while like this.

“Pen, wait!”

Pen turned around and saw Las running up to him. Las grabbed his bag and ripped it from his grab and started to walk back towards their former hut. When Las noticed that Pen didn’t follow him he turned and walked up to him. He then grabbed his wrist and started to drag him towards the hut, leaving several wolves looking after them.

“What the hell was that?!” Las was shouting so high he knew that the whole pack must hear them but he didn’t care.

“I…You don’t want me.”

“What?”

“Yeah, well… It’s been thirteen days…and you didn’t let me talk to you…Or touch you…I thought that it would be best if we parted for some time.”

“Wh-what? You really felt that?” Las sat down, ducking his head in shame. Making Pen feel like that, he must have been miserable. He looked up at Pen and saw him looking away. Was he that unsure to what he could do and not do that he didn’t dare to look at him? He stood up and slowly walked up to the tense alpha.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“You would only get mad at me and then Celio or someone else would be mad too.”

Las signed and then let his fingers ghost over Pens arm. He could see Pen twitch and then he took a step away from Las.

“Don’t.”

Las bowed his head and nodded.

“Sorry.”

They stood there, both trying to come up with something to say. After a couple of minutes Pen cleared his throat and Las looked up.

“I…I’m sorry Las.”

Las looked at him and then took two small steps up to him. He gently sneaked his arms around Pen, holding him in place.

“No Pen, you don’t have anything to be sorry about. It’s my fault. It’s just… I got a little scared when you put…You know. And then Em and the others said that what I was doing was right and I kept it up. I thought that what I was doing was right. Sorry. Please don’t leave me.”

By now Las was crying, clinging desperately to Pen. Pen was looking down at Las and he was at a loss. What should he do? Hug him? Kiss it better?

“Eh…Las?”

Las looked up at Pen, tightening his hold on him. Pen thought that it resembled at pup being separated from its favorite toy and it made him chuckle.

“I’m not going to leave you. But this… I don’t know. It’s not how it’s supposed to be. We can’t hold grudges like these. It won’t work in the long run.”

Las nodded and looked at Pen like a pup would look at a mad mother.

“So if you’re really sorry you should do me a favor.”

“A favor?”

“Yep.”

“Okay.”

“You sure? You don’t know what it is.”

“Doesn’t matter. If it’ll make you stay I’ll do anything.”

“Okay. I want you to service me for one night, like a real mate would.”

“Huh?”

“Well, tomorrow we’ll be praying to our demon ancestors and later in the evening we will have a feast. It normal for the submissive mate to feed and take care of the other. I’m not saying that you’ll be my slave, but you will be feeding me, fixing whatever I want you to, and you’ll keep me out of trouble.”

“Trouble?”

“Yeah. You see, it’s common for us wolves to court a potential mate at these celebrations and as you and I are not mated others can still try and court me. As an unmated alpha I won’t be thinking really straight so it’s up to you to take care of me and fend off others.”

Las nodded and rubbed his cheek against Pens to show him some affection and reassurance.

“I won’t have to fight though? I don’t know if I would like that…”

“No, you just have to show that I like you better. Or you can kiss me to show that I belong to you and that if someone tries to go against you it will be hell to pay. Most usually backs off if you growl, kiss or bite me somewhere where the mark will be visible.”

Las gulped but nodded again. Pen smiled a gentle smile and then lifted his head up, making him meet his eyes.

“So let’s put this behind us okay? We both did wrong so now we can let it go.”

“You’re right. And I’m sorry. If I knew about how you felt I wouldn’t have done those things and you’ve been forgiven after a day!”

Pen smiled gently and hugged him firmly before he let go of Las and started to unpack his bag. Las sat down on the ground, watching Pens every movement. He still felt horrible about this whole thing and he was sooo going to make that clear to all the others that had told him that it was a good idea to play mad at Pen for so long…

--

“Celio, what’s wrong?”

Tan looked at the wolf. They had been sitting at a fire outside Celios’ hut, making dinner, when he had shuddered and looked around.

“Nothing. I just got this feeling…”

“What?”

“I think that we should stay away from Las and Pen for a while…”

“Why?”

“I don’t know, I just have this bad feeling…”

--

Pen would wag his tail if it was out. He and Las was lying in bed, talking quietly to each other. Las was still very docile and polite, but little by little he had started to talk with Pen like they used to. Pen was lucky that he was lying on his side, his chest to Las back. That way Las couldn’t see the big grin Pen was wearing. He kept thinking about tomorrow. He hadn’t told Las about his outfit that he would have to wear. Or that he may have to do a little more than kissing if he wanted to keep him. Or what mates, or in their case: potential mates usually did after the feast was over… Oh well, perhaps Las would let him do a little more than last time without punching him. His grin grew wider and he snuggled closer to Las and they fell asleep.
