I decided it was finally time to break out the Ace in my sleeve when he took Liz. He said that she was fine, that he was just having some fun with her.
That mean that he was healing her wounds before they did too much damage.
I knew how they thought. I knew how demons worked.
I was one of them.
I was of a different class, a different genre of the same category. A succubus, as many would have guessed if they had known about the different chains in my blood. This body had been claimed as mine since its creation. The child would have been weak, sickly, damaged, and useless anyway. There was no reason for her to exist. I merged with the body, allowing it to become my own for years to come; until one day when I would leave it, leave her to die.
But for now, I had an ally to save.
Vince was one of two that I could feel completely at home with. A demon soul in a human body, battling with the ways of the world. Without Vince, there would only be Byronn. He was the only one who knew of my blood. He was of the same genre as I; an Incubus that trapped himself within the confines of a human body. They weren't much different from us anyway; only shorter, less eloquent, and without wings.
I called him and told him what had happened, and he understood. He said that he would be there in twenty minutes, then we could both go get her back. Then we would, of course, have to explain to them both -Liz and Caleb- who and what we were.
But it was better to have her home safe than to have lost her when we could have done something.
True to his word, twenty minutes later we were already working on finding him. It was simple really. I took a picture of him from my computer, printed it out and attached it to my pendulum. Once we had found him on a map of NY, then a map of the Capital Region, then of Colonie, we then found that he was in fact in his own house with her.
He wanted us to find them.
But did he know who I was? Who I and Byronn were? If he did, and still challenged us, then we had a right to fear him.
