Chapter 11: Step Forward

***Chapter 11: 1 Step Forward ***

Christian sat up in bed, the room was still cloaked in darkness, and he reached out and placed his hand on Andrew’s sleeping body. Relief wash over him just knowing the boy was there; his mind whirred as he tried to figure out what had dragged him from his sleep.
A buzz beside him made his jump as he reached for the phone, debating if he could throw it out of the window without waking Andrew. He glanced at the name and a cold chill ran through his body, it was Jacob his PA.

‘Jacob this had better be important.’

‘Sir, it’s about Thomas. He...’

‘Wait.’

Christian slid out of the bed; he glanced at Andrew, brushing a few stray hairs away from his face before moving into the kitchen.

‘Speak.’

‘He’s alive, we’re trying to track him sir but...’

Christian signed and closed his eyes, rage filled his body, and he wanted to scream he slammed his hand hard into the counter. How the hell has he survived? Christian felt bile rise in his throat, he dreaded the answer to his next question but he had to know.

‘Is he after Andrew?’

The silence that greeted him told him his answer, closing his eyes he disconnected the call, he needed to think. Slowly he moved to the door of the bedroom and watched Andrews sleeping form. He had to tell him but... Christian glanced at the boy beside him; it had been a week since they had made up Andrew was still being very quiet and withdrawn from him.

Christian had let the boy, he knew that he needed time, but he had learnt the news he had been dreading, Thomas was alive and he knew that he’d come back, back for him and now. He closed his eyes, Andrew couldn’t deal with something like this now, he wanted him to be safe to be happy, to love him.

Christian sat down heavily he want to do something for Andrew to show him, Christian closed his eyes to show him what? That he cared that he wasn’t a complete monster? Where the hell do you take someone like Andrew? Christian sighed knowing he’d never fall back to sleep with all this on his mind he flicked on the TV.
As he watched the flickering images flash on the screen a smile played on his lips and a low chuckle escaped his lips. He knew exactly where to take Andrew.

***

Andrew stared out of the darkened windows, his mind still foggy with sleep. At just before 6am Christian had woken him up and told him to get up and get dressed, nothing else just that. Andrew had tried asking but each time Christian had just smiled and said it was important.

Andrew glanced over at the man who was smiling silently beside him; Christian wore a loose sweatshirt and jeans with dark sneakers. Andrew was shocked he’d never seen the man out of a suit, it was a little unnerving. Suddenly Christian turned and gently squeezed his hand.

‘We’re here.’

Andrew felt the hair on the back of his neck raise and a cold sweat clung to him, where was here? As soon as the car stopped Andrew shoved the door open and flung himself out, not sure what to expect, and being more shocked as he recognized the place.

‘Andrew?’

Andrew slowly turned towards Christian; he felt a limp catch in his throat, ‘I don’t...’

‘I thought you mind like it, if not we can...!’

Andrew jump into Christian’s arms his heart pounded in his cheat, ‘thank you.’

Christian’s strong arms gently tightened around his narrow waist, holding him close before letting him drop back to the ground. Andrew felt like he was a child again as he and Christian walked to the entrance of Tigerbay Zoo.

***

Andrew didn’t know how long they walked around the zoo, but slowly he felt a weight lift off him, and he felt almost lighter. He loved looking at the animals but more then that he loved being with Christian like this, as just two normal people. They didn’t talk about what had happen or about anything important, they just talked and laughed.

Andrew slowed as they reached the last cage, and he stopped and watched the lions as they moved around the cage, Christian stood next to him and Andrew began to watch him. Christian was confusing, he was dangerous and he lived in a dangerous world that Andrew didn’t understand and yet. Andrew glanced back at the lions, and yet he had taken a day away from that world for him, to make him feel better. Andrew wanted to thank him, to tell him that it helped but the words seemed to stick in his throat, so slow he reached out and gently brushed Christian’s hand.

Christian stood looking at the lions as they slowly moved around there cage, yellow eyes burning he smiled there was something about the dangerous animals that he had always loved. He felt the gentle nudge against his hand again glancing down he saw Andrew’s small child like hand was reaching for his own. As soon as he opened his hand Andrew held his Christian saw the faint blush rush into Andrew’s face. Christian turned back to the lions a chuckle escaped his lips. Andrew stiffed in his hand and started to pull away, Christian held tighter and turned to face Andrew. Silver eyes widened as he leant down and place a small butterfly kiss on soft lips.

‘I love you.’

He watched and Andrew opened his mouth before placing his finger against his moist lips, ‘shh, don’t say anything, lets just go home.’
Andrew smiled and nodded, Christian placed his arm around his shoulders and led him to the exit he felt guilt wash over him, he’d wanted to tell Andrew about Thomas he had been about to so many time but seeing Andrew so happy. Christian felt a pain deep within his heart; he looked down as Andrew smiled up at him, a smile that had been lost for so long. A burning rage filled him; he would protect Andrew for Thomas and anyone else who would harm him.

***

In the Shadows the man set down the binoculars and picked up the phone beside him.

'They're leaving what do you want me to do?'

The voice was silent for a moment, before an answer could be heard, 'let them know we are watching, but don't hurt anyone...I want to see him fucking break in front of me!'

The phone went dead and the man sat up and picking up the gun with aimed at the smaller man, he watched for a second as the boy smiled and laughed at something before pulling the trigger in three quick released and watch as his target with hit.

***

Andrew stopped and turned back to Christian fulling intending to tell the him that they should not 'do it like the lions did.' When a sharp pain but into his neck, he raised his hand to his neck in confusion and stared at his fingers as more sharp pains bit into his arm and leg. He cried out and felt himself being shoved to the ground Christian's larger body pining him to the floor as they're security detail took off in the direction of the shots. .

'Christian you can get up.'

He felt Christian fumbling for his phone and placed his hand flat against his chested trying to push him off his body. Christian moved back a little Andrew still couldn't move, he saw the look of horror in Christian's face and then confusion

'Christian it's fine really it was just...'

Christian pushed up more from Andrew staring at his neck where the 'bullet' had hit. Bright blue paint was soaking into his shirt and staining the boys hair, Christian moved away so Andrew could sit up, seeing the smile on Andrew's face.

'As i was trying to tell you, its paint.'

Christian didn't speak, he couldn't he watched as Andrew stood up laughing and held out his hand.

'It was very sweet of you to push me out of the way, but do you think you could be a little more gentle?'

Christian nodded and allowed himself to be lend to the car by Andrew, as they got in he glanced around once more. He was glad Andrew was unhurt and seemed unaffected by what happened, but Christian could feel the chill down his spine. That had been a message and Christian was getting it load and clear...Andrew was not safe. Thomas was going to get to Andrew and hurt him...and there was nothing Christian could do about it....
