Chapter 11

The shower I'm taking feels especially good this morning. Breakfast

was delicious and I caught zero red lights on my way to school. A

perfect morning indeed. Hopefully it was the start to a perfect

day...with Mya.

"Hey Taylor." Kyle greets as he joins me at my locker.

"What's up dude." I say getting my art book.

"So you never texted me back last night. I asked how things went with

Julia? She asked me which car was yours yesterday."

I had completely forgot about her. My night with Mya had pretty much

preoccupied my mind. "Oh," I say remembering the previous day, "fine.

She said I had a nice car then I introduced her to Mya and she left.

Actually, she said she had something to ask me but left after Mya

left. It was kinda weird."

"Hmm, maybe she's jealous? I mean she knows you're gay right?" Kyle

asks like it's something everyone knows.

"Moron!" I semi-shout while slapping his arm. "Keep that quiet! And

why would you think she would know?" I ask as we turn to walk to class.

"I thought all ga-'happy people' knew how to tell if other people were

'happy' too?" I swear, if I didn't love this guy so much I'd have to

hate him. His choice of words and phrases alone were enough to drive

me insane sometimes.

"That's retarded Kyle." I say taking the seat next to Mya without the

force of Kyle for once.

Instantly she turns and smiles at me. "Hi." She says, not looking away.

"Morning." I say smiling too.

"Oh yeah, no one say hi to me that's okay." Kyle says with a fake hint

of sarcasm.

"Oh sorry Kyle, good morning to you." Mya replies whiles laughing. Her

laugh always gives me butterflies.

"That's more like it." He says smiling brightly now. He's such a dork.

"Okay class settle down. Today we're going to learn how to make a

canvas. John is passing out the instructions and the tools needed are

on laying on the front desk. If you need any help just raise your hand."

"Uh Kyle, maybe you should get the directions before the tools." Kyle

had already started getting more then enough wood and a hand full of

nails.

"I'm just getting prepared." He said.

I looked back to Mya and she was up and about talking to one of her

friends at the other tables. 'She'll be back.' I reassure myself as I

read the directions then grab the tools.

Before I knew it the day had passed halfway through and I was in

science class. At first I didn't see Julia, then as I got settled into

my seat next to Kyle, she came in the classroom and sat in the front

row...away from me and Kyle. Kyle handed me a note.

'Dude what's up with her? She not like us anymore?'

I too wondered the same thing. 'I dunno. Maybe she wants to take notes

or something?'

Mr. Brown tells us which lab we're doing and assigns our lab partners.

I get Julia again. Coincidence much? She walks over to my desk and

smiles down at me.

"Hey." She says still standing.

"Hi." I figure I should get up and we should go to our lab station.

As we're setting up the equipment and reading the work sheet she

casually strikes up a conversation about yesterday.

"So, sorry I just kinda left yesterday without explaining."

"Oh, uh that's okay. I just figured you had to get home or something."

I try to play it cool...like always.

"So," she continues, "Mya is a really attractive girl." She says eying

me closely.

I stop. Stop working, stop thinking, and I'm pretty sure I stop

breathing. "Um, yeah sure. I guess so." I'm getting uncomfortable but

she doesn't get it.

"Are you two really good friends?" She's still staring.

"N-not really. I mean she's lived next door to me for a while now but

we've only recently started hanging out and stuff." I felt like I was

being interrogated by the FBI or something.

"Oh okay. Just wondering." She then finally looks away from me. "Let's

get this water boiling." And just like that, she's done asking

questions about Mya and me.

During the whole lab I could tell she was being extra friendly with

me...but oddly enough it didn't bother me. I'm pretty sure I was even

flirting back. After class we had lunch with the gang and I went about

my day.

Everything seemed to be feeling more and more routine for me. I really

enjoyed talking with Julia. But that didn't stop me from thinking

about Mya. At the end of the day I headed out to my car and got a

text. It was Mya. 'Wow, barely out of school and already with the

messages? Yay!' I smiled to myself as I read it.

"Hey you :) do you want to have dinner at my house tonight?"

Even though I was slightly nervous to meet her parents, I knew it

would most likely be harmless. So I agreed.

"sure. i get off at 6:30. what time should i be over?"

"well it'll be just u and i. parents are gone for the

night...anniversary. how's 7 sound?"

Yeah...so it was a dinner date? Why do I even bother trying to guess

what's going on anymore...I love my confusing life.

"7 is good. see ya then." I'm so lucky!

*******

Work took forever. I wanted to get out of there so bad and get to

Mya's house. Thankfully it was a slow night so my boss let me out

early. I headed straight home and showered. I couldn't decide what to

wear. 'Hmm,' I thought to myself, 't-shirt or button down?' I didn't

want to seem too dressed up and freak her out. But I didn't want to

look too casual and seem like I didn't care. I decided on a black and

pink plaid button down shirt with jeans and my trusty chucks. I

figured it'd be a good balance between the two.

It was almost 7pm when I decided that I'd start walking over. After I

rang the doorbell once, she answered. I swear she never looked more

beautiful.

"Hi!" She said while stepping aside to let me in. She had on a yellow

and white sundress with flowers on it and no shoes on. She looked

perfect...not to mention the apron she had on that added to the

cuteness.

"Hey," I greeted as I stepped in, "whatcha making?"

"A pasta salad and grilled chicken breast. Sound good?"

"Sounds great! Need any help?" I asked noting that it did smell good

in the kitchen.

"No no, you're the guest. Make yourself at home though I'm almost

done." She says as she shows me to the dining area. I take a seat at

the table.

She starts setting everything in front of the chair I'm in and the one

next to it. 'You could totally be my wife.' I think to myself as she

talks about how she made everything from scratch and serves up the food.

******

We eat and it's absolutely delicious. Our conversation is going great

too. I swear it was like a real date. When we finish I offer to help

put everything away but of course, she tells me to leave it.

"Nah I'll get it later. It's okay."

"Well it was really good. Thanks for inviting me over I had a really

great time." I say smiling at her.

"Youre welcome," she says winking at me, "so..."

"So..." I repeat, starting to grow a little nervous due to the sudden

quiet and tension that fills the room.

"Do you want to stay a little longer and watch a movie or something?"

"Um," I say clearing my throat a bit, "I'd really like to, but I've

got to get started on my homework. I have a ton of science to do." And

I wasn't lying. The lab Julia and I did today was going to take until

Friday to complete.

"Oh," Mya says with hint of disappointment in her voice, "okay, well

maybe next time. I'm really glad you came over, Taylor."

"Me too." I say as our eyes meet. "I'll um, I'll see you tomorrow." I

start to get up and head to the door.

"Yeah," she says as she follows behind, "can't wait." She leans in to

give me a hug. I smile as I feel her body fold into mine. Just then

she turns her head to kiss my check as I turn my head to say goodbye

one last time...our lips meet.

It's a second that feels like an hour. I pull away first, shocked.

"Sorry!" I say as I release my grip on her waist.

"It's okay," she says while holding onto my shoulders, "really it's

okay."

As I'm trying to process everything, she leans in, "Taylor, it's

okay," her eyes close and our lips meet again.

At first, I'm frozen. I can't move or breathe. But then my eyes close

too and I'm kissing her back. My hands are back at her waist and I

feel myself relax more. She shifts a little and I feel her lips part

against mine. I allow myself to follow her lead and part my lips as

well. We continue like this for a while until we both need air. When

we part, I don't let go this time. Instead, she rests her forehead on

mine while catching her breath.

"I'm sorry." Now she's apologizing.

"It's okay." I have no idea what's going on. But I know I don't want

this to stop.

"Do you have to leave?" She asks. I can feel her staring at my lips.

"No." I say still breathing fast.

"Good." She says, before capturing my lips hungrily.
