A Lot Can Happen In Four Years

Rating: Violence, just a bit.

A/N: I’m back. I’ll have the next one up soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A full moon hung in the sky as the wind blew through the trees and leaves rustled. I figure stopped on a rooftop and looked behind them. Stealthily moving and crouched low, they peeked over the edge and looked down. A guard walked below; grabbing the edge they slowly flipped over and hung over. Turning till the front of their body faced the wall of the building.
As soon as the guard went around the corner, they slipped into the open window. The room was big with high ceilings. Glass containers lay around the room sat on wooden pedestal, a light shone on one that set in the middle of the room. They sat on the windowsill of a window high up near the top of the room. A cloud passed in front of the moon and casted the room into the dark. When the moon light came back the person was gone.
The middle pedestal held a black onyx stone that was the size of an adult human’s head. Without a sound they move closer to the glass case and stopped a foot away from it. Looking closely they found the floor to be uneven; they looked closer and found a space between the tiles. Quietly they wedged a piece of metal between the tiles for about a foot. Taking a quick look around the person stood up and running a quick hand around the edge of the case had the person finding sensors. Slowly pulling glass case up and placing another piece of metal to hold down the sensors, they moved the case up till it was opened.
Reaching inside with one hand they placed there hand on it and quickly swapped it with another the same weight. Taking the one in their hand they wrapped it up and placed it in their bag. Pulling it on they quickly replaced everything and cleaned up. Turning they ran up to the wall and jumping grabbed a rope hanging down. Once on the windowsill another quick look had them quickly climbing back up onto the roof. The wind blew past and a cloud blocked the sky, looking up they sighed. The clear sky was now covered in clouds. Soon it would rain.
Swiftly and quietly the person ran across the roof. Jumping they grunted as their hand grabbed the branch. The branch snapped.
There was a crash and a couple of guards ran over. Looking around they found the branch laying on the ground, broken and no one was around. “What do you think broke it?”
“Could have been the wind.”
“Sure the wind, I’m going to check inside and see if nothing is missing.” The guard walked back toward the building and disappeared inside. The other guard walked closer to the tree, a twig snapped and the guards head turned towards the sound.
“Who’s there?” he walked over and found them self in the forest, another twig snapped. He spun around, “I asked who’s there?”
A knife pressed against his throat, “Say anything and you’ll die.” The guard whimpered and dropped his weapon, “Good choice.” The knife disappeared and a shaper blow followed it. The guard crumpled to the ground and the person quickly ran off when an alarm went off. He whistled and a black and white horse appeared.
The rain poured down on a person, he tried to stay dry under a tree. Sighing he set his bag down and pulling it opened. He pulled out a hat and pulled the earflaps out from inside the hat, they pulled off the tight cotton hat. Flame red hair stuck up at odd angles. Reaching back into the bag he traded out the cotton cap with a cloth in a circle. He turned his head and saw his horse, he clicked his tongue and she turned to him.
He heard a snap and his head turned to the side, a woman walked up to him their hair was tucked up under a newsboy cap. She smiled at him and nodded her head. He smirked as she walked by, the way she wore her cap made him think of Ari. Luka pulled the cloth over his head and pulled it up over his mouth, and then he pulled it down to cover his neck. Taking his hat, he pulled in on and made sure the flaps covered his ears. Closing the bag he pulled it back on. The rain was falling heavily as he walked off leading the horse behind him.
It had been four years and not a word came from Dryden. He sighed and looked up at the sky. Looking back down, he saw something running towards him. It was Ari; a small child was strapped to her back. “Ari, where’s the fire?”
“Just thought you would like someone to talk to.” She was holding an umbrella. Her jacket was zipped up, had on a pair of blue jeans, and she was wearing sandals. “Plus…” she looked over her shoulder and smiled, “Kael wanted to see his godfather.” Luka smiled and looked at the small child. He was already twenty months and he wanted to cause trouble. His hair was a taupe color, a mix of both his parents’ hair colors. Kael turned light red eyes on Luka, his face split into a big grin and he reached out one small hand. Two gray lion ears sat on his head twitching and a lion’s tail swished behind the small child. The horse nickered and Ari walked over to pet the side of her neck, “Hey Braith.”
“Hey there, Kael.”
“’Ka.” Kael laughed and waved his hand. The small child had on a jacket and blue jean pants. His small feet were covered in socks. Under the jacket you can see a blue shirt.
“Come on Luka your getting all wet.” Ari ushered him along and laughed when he started to protest, “Stop acting like a child.” He sighed. Braith followed after them as Ari pushed Luka along.
After dropping Braith off at the stable on the outer part of the city. Soon both of them were walking up to a small city. “I noticed that you’re not wearing your hair covered.”
“Really. I think since I’m not on guard duty anymore, why should I have to wear all that stuff.” Ari smiled. The small city was slowly growing bigger, spreading upwards and outwards. “Have you found a new place to live at?”
“Not yet.”
“Why not? Luka your dad won’t leave you alone till you do.”
“I like where I’m at.” He stopped under a small arch and Ari closed her umbrella. Pulling down the cloth, he looked out at the rain.
Ari shook her head, “Luka how many times has it been?”
He turned his head and mumbled.
“What was that?”
“Every other week for the past two years, besides I’m not going to look till Dryden gets back.”
Pulling the cloth back up he walked back into the rain. “Luka…”
He turned and with both hands out to the side, “I can handle it. How’s Aiden doing, he hasn’t bugged me lately.”
“He’s doing alright. Luka don’t change the subject.”
“I got to drop this off.”
“Luka!” She sighed and watched as he walked off. ‘How long will you wait?’
Luka opened a door and stopped, “Luka, welcome home!” Rusty was sitting on the couch, “Did you get it?” The twelve year old was jumping on the couch now. Luka pulled his hat and the cloth off. Rusty was already five foot three inches.
Smacking him over the back of the head as he walked by, he scolded him. “No jumping on my couch!”
Rusty held his head and looked at him. “That was soooo not fair.”
“No jumping on the couch.” Luka tossed over his shoulder, he stopped and looked at him, “How the hell did you get in here?”
“Dad let me in.” He was now sitting down, “Remember Dad used to live here, too. So he still has the spare.” Luka opened a door and walked into a bedroom. He reached up and over head, grasping the back of his sweatshirt and pulled it and the undershirt off. Walking over to another open door he walked in and tossed it over the towel rack. The shirts hung dripping water. On his way back into the living area he picked a random shirt up and pulled it on.
“That would explain the restock.” Once he was back out in the room he picked the bag up and held it in his hand, “Why?”
“That would be mom. He said for you to come see him, something about a message.” Luka ran out of the room, “Luka!”
Liam glanced at the door when he heard a crash. “Luka!” He sighed as the door opened and Luka backed in.
“Sorry Jaden my shoes don’t have traction when there wet.”
“I just fixed the generator; you wouldn’t have heat in your room if it wasn’t for me. The next time you bust up my generator I’ll make it so fucking cold in your room you could make a snowman!” Jaden was a fit but lanky guy who took pride in fixing things. He was six foot three and his main weapon was his wrench. Jaden had black hair and he had eyes that seemed to change color with his mood, but most of the time it was hazel. He had snake bites and an eyebrow barbell on his right eyebrow. All three of them had points and were black. Both ears were pierced. Both of them had small half loops in his earlobes and his right ear had an industrial while the left had a looped tragus piercing, with a black sphere, and a spiked piercing on the upper part of his ear.
“I said sorry.” Luka backed up farther into the room and Liam chuckled.
Jaden waved his wrench at him, “Or better yet how about I give you a shocker.” The mechanic was only nineteen and everyday he wore the same baggy dark blue jumpsuit. The upper half was always tied around his waist and he had on a black tank top that had a skull on the front.
“You really don’t need to do that.” The nineteen year old was the only one in the whole hidden city that can shock people. Somehow he can generate electricity and use it. Jaden turned on the heel of his old boots and stormed out, slamming the door behind him. “Sometimes he scares me.” Liam laughed at his son and Luka gave him a scowling look.
Once Liam had control of his laughter he asked him, “Luka did you bring it?”
He tossed him the bag and held his hand out. Liam sighed as he opened the bag; he pulled out a cloth wrapped object.
“On my desk.” Luka walked over and picked up the paper, “It didn’t come by bird.”
“What do you mean?”
“They were sent to the medic.” Luka glanced over the message. “You should go see what’s been going on.” Luka nodded and walked over to the door, opening in he glanced out. “Luka he’s not really going to shock you.”
Luka looked over his shoulder, “And how do you know that?” he asked in a hushed tone.
Liam placed his head in his hand and shook his head, “Luka!”
“I’m going.”
“Ow! Take it easy that’s broken.” The woman sighed and looked at the young man.
“If it’s not set right you won’t heal right.” There was a knock at the door, “Come in! I thought your type could heal on their own.”
“Wrong end of the stick, OW! Damn it that really hurts!” Luka stopped and blinked, “Oh hey what’s up?”
“Troy what are you doing here?”
“Getting my broken arm fixed.” Troy was sitting on the hospital bed watching the nurse.
“Where’s Dryden at?”
The man wasn’t the same height anymore; he now stood at six feet. “The last I saw of him was when he decided to become the diversion against everyone’s wishes.” He looked up at Luka. “Did you read the message?”
“Yeah.”
“You should go to the gate right now.” Troy stood up and looked at the cast, “I’m going to get him to fix this when he gets here.”
“Who?”
“Dryden. Zachariah is with Mark and Zane.” Just then an alarm went off, “That would be them.”
Luka walked over to a wall and opened a panel. Inside was a speaker, he pushed a button, “Turn that damn thing off, now!”
“But…”
“Leo, do I have to get your sister?”
“All right! Just tell me, are you going down there?”
“Why do you ask?” Luka patted his lower back and found his daggers still there.
“There is this huge ass wolf down here.”
“Now I am.” He let go of the button and glanced over at Troy, “You staying here?”
Troy was watching the nurse when he answered. “Nope, coming with ya.” He followed after Luka.
Demi sat at the gate. He watched as Zachariah tried to get the guards to calm down. He would be helping Dryden right now if he hadn’t told him to help Zachariah. The giant wolf gently scratched at his neck, a make shift sling hung around his neck. He felt movement inside the sling and he glanced down. At least the rain had stopped for the moment. Glancing up he saw the dark clouds and whined.
Ari stood off to the side, her sword was strapped to her back. One hand was on the handle, as she walked up, “Zachariah, it’s been awhile.”
He turned to her, “Hey Ari, new sword?”
“Stand down.” She looked around, “All of you!” The guards stepped back, “I’m thinking of going back now, some of you need to be taught a lesson.” She looked back at Zachariah, “Yes it is. Now where’s Dryden?”
“We had to split up in three different groups. Troy should be here, but I don’t know when Dryden will show.”
“What do you mean by that?” Both of them turned at the sound of Luka’s voice. Demi growled, and then Zachariah grabbed Luka by the front of his shirt.
Luka found himself slammed up against a wall; Zachariah had his fist pulled back. Then he saw Ari’s sword held at the side of Zachariah neck. “I think you should let him go and explain yourself.” Luka glanced up and saw Aiden. He had an arrow notched and the bow pulled back, “I’m waiting.”
Sighing Luka shook his head, “The only reason Zachariah would have a reason to swing at me,” He glanced over at Troy, “is because of Dryden.”
“Damn right.” He growled, “You would be out cold if I didn’t have a sword at my neck.” then he looked down and saw a dagger. It was out and held at an angle that would injure him greatly but not kill him.
“Reflex, sorry.” He put it away and glanced over at Troy.
Troy walked up and glanced at Zachariah, “Luka did you get any messages from us other then this last one?”
“No.”
“Zachariah let him go.” Troy was now looking at Demi.
“Why should I?”
“Because I doubt Luka would lie about something related to Dryden.” Then he grinned and childishly said, “If you don’t I’ll tell Dryden you were about to hit him.”
Zachariah was about to say something when Troy gave him an evil smirk and he let go of Luka, stepping back he pointed at the make shift sling, “I’m leaving those two in your care. I need to get back and get the rest of the people.”
Luka watched as he walked over to Demi and patted him on the leg. “Who?” Troy motioned for Luka to follow and warily he followed. Once he was by Demi, Troy pulled some cloth away and he saw two boys inside. “What happened?” One was beaten up and bleeding while the smaller one was looking at them. He had a few scrapes and a cut under his right eye.
“We ran into some trouble.” Zachariah said as he pulled his travel bag on. “Mark saved Zane.” He looked over at Luka, “Like I said, they’re in your care.” He whistled and another wolf appeared, he jumped up onto its back. “I’ll be back at the end of the week but I don’t know when he’ll get here.” They watched as Zachariah and the wolf disappeared back into the forest.
Luka turned to the children, he nodded and picking up the injured one he turned, “Ari tell Eva to meet me in the medic.”
“Okay,” She ran off towards a building. Luka looked to see Troy holding the small child in his arms. Glancing down he saw pale blue eyes focus on his and then they slid close. He took off running.
Demi chose that moment to shake off the sling and took off into the woods. He had to find Dryden.
Eva Achava had black hair with purple streaks, her eyes were a charcoal color, and she had pale skin. Standing as tall as five foot ten inches, she looked over at Luka. Her uniform consisted of a long doctor coat that reached down to her shins; pair of white shoes was on her feet. Under the coat she had on a red tank top and a pair of black pants. “Luka.”
He looked up at her, “Eva.”
“I’ve stabilized him. But he will need a healer if he doesn’t want any scars.” Eva sighed and sat down next to him, “He wants to know where the other child is at.” Just then the door opened and Troy walked in with a very happy child. Luka finally got a good look at the child; he had short white hair that stopped above his ears and bright golden eyes. The small child was gnawing on a sucker as he waved over Troy’s shoulder at the nurse in the other room. He had the same mark as Dryden and Troy on his left arm and a single blue mark across his nose. He had Band-Aids on all of his cuts.
He pulled out the candy and asked. “Uncle Troy where Mark?”
“I don’t know Zane you’ll have to ask the doctor.” Zane turned around and looked at the Luka and Eva. His eyes went back to Luka and he pointed at him.
“His necklace look just like the one daddy gave me.”
Luka reached up and touched his necklace and blinked, “Daddy?” Eva covered her mouth to keep from laughing; then it hit him. “Dryden…” He kept staring at Zane. The shock was visible on his face.
“Yep and guess who the other father is.” He looked at Zane. The small boy had the same dark tan as Dryden. Luka pointed at himself, “He’s actually smart.”
Luka growled at the remark he made, “When?”
“Found out a month after we left.”
“Oooo, Luka’s a daddy.” Eva giggled and stood up, “You want to see your friend?”
Zane smiled, “Yeah.” Troy placed him on the ground. Placing the sucker back in his mouth and he grabbed Eva’s hand.
Luka placed his elbows on his legs and rested his head in his hands. “That would make him four, right?”
“Yeah.” Troy sat next to him and pulled one leg up on the chair. He could see Zane sitting on the hospital bed talking to Mark. Mark had pale blonde hair in messy spikes. He was only nine and had no family. Dryden had taken him in against everyone’s wishes. Mark wasn’t exactly a normal child. He had pale blue eyes and pale skin. On his left arm he had the circle with triangles all around the outside; the only difference was that one of the bottom triangles was a black line that went all the way down the arm to the back of his hand. He was pulling a sleeveless turtle neck on and then another sleeveless shirt.
Luka looked over to see Troy watching the two in the room. He knew that look, one that he was familiar with, “Who’s this Mark person?”
“He’s only nine. Dryden took him in against our wishes.” Luka smiled at this. “He’s not a normal child, never take him lightly.” What was so different about Mark?
Luka rubbed the back of his head and stood up, “I’m going to take Zane and Mark to my home.” He turned to him, “Any sign of Dryden…”
“You’ll be the first to know.” Nodding Luka walked in and found Zane talking to Mark.
“Hey.” Eva looked over at him, “Is he able to move on his own.”
“Yep, despite his appearance he’s rather strong for a child.” Mark turned pale blue eyes on him and Luka waved. He pointed at Luka and Zane turned around. “He’s also mute.”
“So, Dryden said I’m to keep an eye on you two.” So Mark was mute that will be hard. How was he supposed to communicate with the boy?
Zane nodded his head and jumped down off the bed. He was standing in front of Luka and then he hugged his leg, “Daddy said ta stay with ya till he got home.” He looked over at Mark who was watching them. “Come on Mark, I know you can walk.” Mark slowly slid off the bed till his feet touched the ground. He didn’t even make a sound as he moved over to him. The boy was four foot nine inches.
‘He’s quieter than Dryden when walking.’ Luka looked down at him and smiled, “Well come on. I want to get to the Main Tree before the sky opens up on us.” He waved at Eva as he ushered the two boys out of the room.
Liam paced the room and kept on looking at the door. Luka should be home soon, Eva had sent a message to tell him the news about the two boys. Just then the door opened and Luka walked in sopping wet, with two equally wet boys. “Hey, father.” He saw the look on Liam’s face. “Let me get something dry on so my skin can go back to normal. I also need to get something dry for these two.” Luka disappeared into his room and came out with two towels and two shirts. Liam held a bag up when he walked out.
“Eva told me so I brought over some cloths for them.” After showing Mark the bathroom and giving him the dry towel and clothing, Luka knelt down and started to dry off Zane. “She told me everything.”
“Good, if you know then Aiden and Ari should be running over here soon.” He looked up at him, “I just found out.”
Liam sighed and looked at the small child, “He looks like a mini you only tanner skin tone.”
“Really. Arms up.” He pulled the wet shirt off and found the green stone hanging around his neck. “I’m just scared of what people might think about him.” He pulled a dry shirt on the boy and helped him out of his wet pants and undershorts. Liam patted Luka on the shoulder and glanced at the small boy, he was watching him. Soon he was wearing dry cloths.
“How old is he?”
“I’m four.” Zane tipped his head to the side, “Are you my grandpa?”
“Yes.” Liam knelt down and smiled, “How’s Dryden?”
Luka didn’t answer and stood up. He jerked his wet shirt off over his own head. Picking up the other wet cloths he walked into the kitchen and started to wring the extra water out of the cloths. Liam followed him into the kitchen.
“Luka?”
He mumbled something.
“Come again.”
“I don’t know!” He was gripping the edge of the sink. Taking a deep breath and letting it out he went back to what he was doing. He stopped and looked at him, “I haven’t been this scared since…” Liam nodded and patted him on the shoulder. “Is this how it felt?”
“Just be glad he’s alive.”
Zane peeked around the corner and saw Luka go back to squeezing the shirts. He turned and hung them up on a line that was stretched from one side of the kitchen to the other. The small boy ran in and grabbed Luka’s leg, “Daddy promised to come back and he will.” He shouted. Luka was watching the small boy; he sighed and picked him up. Placing him on the counter, he turned to his father. The small child pointed at him, “Daddy will come back!”
“Oh course he will.” Luka smiled and ruffled the boy’s hair. “Can you get some more cloths for them? There might be some old cloths of mine from when I was little.”
“Sure.” He watched as Luka picked up the boy’s pants and hung them up. Mark walked out and passed Liam making him jump, ‘Where did he come from?’ Mark stopped and looked up at Liam; he bowed his head and walked on. He had on a red shirt and a pair of blue jean pants with the legs rolled up. The boy handed Luka his wet cloths. Luka saw that Mark still had on the turtle neck underneath the red shirt.
Luka sighed when his father left, Zane was watching him, “I’m hungry.” Luka glanced at him and was about to move when his front door slammed open.
“What the hell is it now!?” He yelled as he walked out of the kitchen with Zane and Mark following him.
Aiden smacked him over the head, “Don’t you dare get angry at me.” Ari stood there watching; she bent over and placed Kael on the ground. Zane peeked around Luka at Kael who was looking around the room. “Why is it I’m the last to hear these things?” Luka gave him a childish look and ignored him. Aiden gave him a sullen look. “One of these days…”
“Ka!” He yelled when he found Luka. Kael ran over to him clumsily and held his arms out, “Up!” Luka ran his hand through his hair and smiled. Picking the small child up, he stood up.
“I just found out not even an hour ago.” He turned from Aiden and knelt down, “Kael this is Zane.” Aiden was crouched next to Luka, “Zane I’d like you to meet my best friends Aiden and Ari and their son Kael.”
Zane poked Kael’s ears, “Daddy has ears when something jumps out and scares him.” Luka chuckled as Kael tried to get away from Zane’s hands. He sat him down and stood up.
“Mark, keep an eye on them I need to talk to Aiden and Ari.”
The three walked into his room and he closed the door till it was opened a crack, “Can one of you check and see if any messages came in from Dryden the last four years.”
“Luka we both checked after you left with the two children.” Ari said, she noticed how he kept glancing out the crack in the door. He looked at her, “There were none.”
Aiden was pacing now, something he does when thinking and under stress, “Well what if someone was stopping them between here and there?”
They both looked over at him, “Is that even possible?”
Aiden nodded, “Yeah, it’s not that hard.”
Luka cursed and slammed his fist into the door frame, “Fuck! That means who ever caught them knows about this place, too.”
“Luka…”
“I sent out a couple.”
Aiden stopped and looked at him, “What if they know about…”
He growled and glanced at Aiden, “No way in hell they’ll touch him!”
“I’m going to whip those men back into shape so we can keep him safe.” Luka and Aiden looked at her, “No one will lay their hands on Zane, without going through me first.” Aiden nodded at this.
“Same goes for me.” Luka smiled and leaned back against the wall. “When Dryden gets back we’ll tell him what we think.”
“Something tells me he all ready knows about this.” The red head mumbled.
Just then there was a thud outside the door and all three of them looked out to see Mark on his back holding Zane up in the air. Both of them were staring at something. Ari sighed and shook her head, “I’ll take care of this.” She walked out of the room and Luka sighed.
“What will happen now?”
Aiden sighed and patted Luka on the shoulder.
There was a crash and Luka cursed. “Zane be careful!” His father laughed as Luka picked up the four year old.
“He started it!” Zane yelled. Rusty was laughing at Zane and eep’ed when Luka picked him up by the back of his shirt.
“Rusty!”
“What is was only a little joke.”
“Boys, will you sit down at the table!” Syrita scolded them. Tam was watching them as he swung his legs back and forth. He was ten years old and tall for his age, he was five feet. Luka dropped Rusty onto the ground and she shouted. “Luka!”
“What?” He walked over and sat Zane down at the table. “Mark, are you sure you’re not hungry.”
The boy looked up from his book and nodded his head. Zane tugged at Luka’s shirt and he looked down at him, “Mark can’t eat the same food as us.” When Luka gave him a confused look Zane pointed at the cooked meat, “It can’t be cooked.”
Luka walked over and picked up a pad of paper and a pencil. “Mark,” He knelt down and handed him the items, “write down what you can eat, so I can know what to get for you.” Mark placed the book down and took the items. He started to write on it.
Liam watched as Luka patted the boy on the head. Mark paused and then went back to writing. Once he was sitting down Liam asked him, “Why doesn’t he just tell you?”
“He’s mute.” Luka glanced over at Zane, “What is it Zane?”
The small boy was looking over at Mark, “Mark look lonely.” Luka sighed and ruffled Zane’s hair.
“Why don’t you go sit with him?” He looked at everyone else and picked his plate up.
“Okay.”
Diner went on like that, Rusty soon followed and Tam decided to go and sit with them. Luka would poke fun at Liam and the old man would pick on him just as much. Syrita laughed at two and would pick on both of them. Soon Syrita was picking up plates and cleaning them as the kids sat in the living area playing games. Luka and Liam were sitting at the table plotting the next thieving job.
It was getting late when Luka glanced over to find Zane curled up against Mark’s side sleeping. Liam looked up to see why Luka hadn’t answered him and saw what he was looking at, “It’s moments like these that make you proud.”
Luka looked over at him, “What do you mean?”
“When Zane get’s older you’ll understand.” Liam rolled the papers up, “Why don’t you take them home, that other kid looks like he might pass out soon.”
“I’ll talk to you in the morning.” He walked over to Mark, the boy looked up and then at Zane. Luka picked up Zane and Mark stood up and followed him, “Night.”
“Night Luka.”
He walked down a few hallways till he got to his door. He unlocked it and pushed it open, only to stop. “Fuck.” Mark looked around him and saw the room. Someone had broken in again and this time they trashed the place. He glanced at Mark smiling, “You get use to it after a while.” Placing Zane down on his bed he walked out. “Let me clean up some so you can lay on the pull out bed.” Luka started cleaning up and flipping the chairs back onto their feet. Somewhere between the time he started and finished Mark had started to help him.
Soon the bed was out and had sheets on it. “Well I’ll get Zane and you two can sleep out here.” Mark walked over and handed him something, “What is this?” He looked at the paper.
*Zane needs warmth.*
“Can’t he get warmth from you?”
*not warm enough*
“Fine you can stay out here or I can pull out a cot for you in the room.”
*I’ll be fine use to sleeping alone* Mark handed him another piece of paper and found a list of food on it. Luka nodded and walked over to the front door and locked it. The boy watched as Luka walked into his room, the door was wide open and he could see into it. Grabbing the blanket that Luka left for him, he lay down and curled up under it. He placed his hand over his chest and closed his eyes.
Luka didn’t lay down till he was sure everything was still in its place. He pulled his shirt off and was about to climb in bed when there was a knock at the front door. He growled and walked to the door. When he opened it he first saw a blue stuffed dragon, “Huh?” Looking around he found Troy, “Wow, Troy… um… what are you doing here?”
“Zane left his toy in my bag.” He pushed it into his hands and turned, “I’ll be with Spike and Darian if you need anything.”
“Okay.”
“Oh yeah, Mark can’t eat cooked meat. It has to be raw or slightly cooked but still raw.” He walked off and Luka closed the door. He turned to find Mark looking at him.
“Looks like Zane forgot something. I’ll make you something to eat in the morning.” He walked into his room to find Zane sitting up and looking around, “Are you looking for this?”
The small boy brightened when he saw the dragon. Luka handed it to him and he walked over to a window. Pushing it open he found a golden dragon curled up sleeping, “Topaz.” He poked him till he lifted his head and looked at him. “You can go to sleep in your bed.” Luka walked away from the window as the dragon flew in. Opening a drawer he watched as the dragon flew in and curled up on a small pile of shirts. He wouldn’t sleep anywhere else.
He stood at the window and watched as the rain fell, “Please be safe.” Closing and locking it he walked over to find Zane still up, “Shouldn’t you be sleeping?”
“Cold.” Luka sighed and climbed onto the bed. Now that he was under the cover Zane had latched on to him and was already asleep. He looked down at Zane, smiling he closed his eyes.
^^^^^^
A cloaked figure walked through the forest, the rain pelted him as he walked. He stopped when he saw the group in front of him. One of them walked forward and smirked. Not even a few minutes later he was surrounded by more of them. He smirked and then they all rushed him. One guy lost an arm as a short sword came out of nowhere and another was gutted with another short sword.
Two more dropped and another was slashed across the neck. Blood was everywhere. He soon was surrounded by a ring of dead bodies. He tipped his head to the side as more appeared. They rushed him again but this time something hit him in the back and he reached behind to feel an arrow lodged in his shoulder. He fought them off but his movement became slower and he was nicked a couple of times.
Till one guy came out of nowhere and slammed him against a tree. He cried out as three loud cracks where heard. The person dropped to the ground coughing. The guy who had rammed him picked up a discarded sword and charged. Standing up, he turned and the guy stopped. He coughed and blood came up. Then pulling away from him, he looked down to see blood soaking through his cloak.
“How?” The man on the ground choked out.
“Easy.” He flicked the blood off his short swords and walked away. When he was far enough away he leaned against a tree and looked up at the sky.
